“This is such a good piece of land for golf. The variety of contours created by the mining process is unique for a project in Florida–or anywhere in the Southeast.” – Tom Doak, Architect, Streamsong Blue
“The scale and shape of this landscape and the creative design features we were able to incorporate into this layout make Streamsong Black a fun and strategic course to play”. - Gil Hanse, Architect, Streamsong Black
With its multiple elevation changes, fairways navigating wild grasses and deep-water ponds and huge bunkers that roll off of towering sand dunes, Streamsong Blue seems designed by discovery rather than by intention. Created by Renaissance Golf Design’s renowned architect Tom Doak–who already has four designs ranked among the top 100 in the world–Streamsong Blue is equally destined for greatness. Streamsong Blue features spectacular terrain, with rises and falls in elevation, and contours that undulate offering some of the most stimulating holes in golf.
Golf Digest’s 2018 Best New Golf Course of the Year, Streamsong Black designed by acclaimed architect Gil Hanse is a dazzling Par-73 championship layout offering breathtaking views of the vast landscape, which includes flowing elevation, rolls, tumbles and sand ridges akin to the Sand Belt Region of Melbourne, Australia. This exciting new addition to Streamsong is big, bold and features The Gauntlet, a two-acre putting course and The Roundabout, a free-flowing practice area which includes several green complexes and practice holes. Streamsong Black is the perfect complement to Streamsong Red and Streamsong Blue.

Quarry Course
Black Diamond
Located in the heart of Citrus County, Black Diamond Ranch is a sanctuary for those looking for a golf retreat unlike any other in Florida. The rolling hills and towering pines provide the perfect backdrop for a memorable round of golf, and private homes welcome guests for a relaxing evening. The signature Quarry Course can best be described as breathtaking. The 13th through 17th holes are carved over and around the canyon walls of two abandoned limestone quarries. Writer Dan Jenkins once referred to this stretch as “the best five consecutive holes of golf anywhere in the world.” Designed by architect Tom Fazio, the Quarry Course opened in 1987 and has garnered high praise from Golf Digest, Links Magazine, and Golfweek, which ranked it 5th in its 2017 “Best Courses You Can Play” list for Florida. While the Quarry Course is one of America’s favorites, the Ranch may very well be the members’ favorite. The Ranch’s 16th, 17th and 18th holes “represent the three best finishing holes I’ve ever designed,” according to Fazio. The Highlands is no slouch either, and may be the most difficult GolfCoastMagazine.com

During their stay, club guests are invited to visit the Black Diamond restaurant for a pre-round lunch or quiet dinner. The chef and his staff delight members and guests alike with a world-class culinary experience. For those who need a break from golf, the club offers a heated pool and Har-Tru tennis courts. TIPS
Tips from the Pros at Alico Family Golf AlicoFamilyGolf.com
Mike Harbour PGA Director of Instruction
“Before someone gets started in golf they should get with a trained Golf Instructor and learn the Basics to the game of golf. There are 5 basics to golf: Grip, Aim, Ball Position, Posture, and Body Rotation. The Grip - It’s an Intercal part of the golf swing. It’s the first thing we do before we swing the golf club. Having proper position and pressure on the club will allow you maximum freedom. Aim - lining your body up correctly to your target before you swing. The feet, knees, hips and shoulders are placed properly for your best chance of correct direction. Ball Position - having the correct ball position with your Driver, fairway metals and irons can vary slightly. Posture - are body has to be in the correct position between proper bend in the knees and upper body to allow us to swing freely thru the hitting area. Body Rotation - whether you are right or left handed our body needs to rotate around our core to insure best opportunity for maximum distances and accuracy.”
“Are you a slicer? If so, fix your club-face first. For a righty, a slice starts someone on line before curving well to the right. Slices happen when the club-face is significantly open to the club path at impact. The further you aim your shot to the left, the more the ball seems to curve to the right. Typically, this pattern begins with an open clubface in the backswing. As a compensation for the wide-open club-face, most people end up swinging too far from out to in. Do this first: Close your club-face. Big time. Make the ball go left. Try this feeling: turn the back of your left wrist to the ground in early backswing. This will get the club-face into a much stronger (or even closed) position in the backswing. If the ball starts going to the left, you’re halfway home. THEN it’s time to work on your swing path!”

Club Champion Expands Training Program
Robust program expands with new lessons, new instructors and in-depth modules by Leonard Finkel
Club Champion can call itself the country’s #1 fitter, builder and retailer of the best brands in golf for many reasons, but the expansive fitter and builder training program lends proof to the claim. As of April 2019, the premium fitting brand had updated and expanded its existing classes - already 150+ hours of learning - to include a wider array of topics, more hands-on exercises and additional teaching experts. The training program, called Club Champion University (CCU), now includes a 144-page manual, six professors, two weeks of classroom learning and mock fitting, followed by another two weeks of live fitting with the team at the Chicagoland headquarters. Hosted every two weeks, the program is the first step in becoming a certified Club Champion fitter. “Our fitters are the core of the company,” said Nick Sherburne, Club Champion founder. “Having the most passionate and most educated individuals in our fitting bays is what ensures that we can provide the results we promise and the immersive experience our customers want.” Sherburne himself is the Dean of CCU, personally overseeing all of the processes and fitters. His expertise, along with that of the other professors, is what drives all of the new hires and guides the company standard. Because Club Champion does not franchise - all its studios are corporate-owned - the company is able to streamline everything nationwide to ensure that a golfer will receive as comprehensive a fitting in Seattle as they will in Orlando. As part of the CCU expansion, new professors have been added to the roster. Most notably, Brad Syslo, formerly Product Line Manager & Grassroots Program Manager at Wilson Golf and Manager & Master Club Fitter at TaylorMade Performance Labs, has taken the position of Lead Professor. Brad’s most recent experience has been recruiting, hiring and training fitters to manage their own store/territories.” I love being able to help our newest fitters provide great experiences to golfers from coast to coast, as well as further develop our experienced fitters,” said Syslo. “What Nick has created is extremely impressive, and I’m thrilled to add my knowledge to the program. The Club Champion team is second to none in the industry!” said Syslo. CCU is one of the major points of differentiation between Club Champion and its competitors. Prior golf experience, coupled with the immense knowledge and skills from CCU, ensures a level of expertise unrivaled in the industry. Before they

“Being in the industry for 15+ years, I thought I knew everything about fitting,” said Don Phattiyakul, Master Fitter and Builder in Washington D.C. “Going through CCU taught me more than I could have imagined. conference calls and webinars with product manufacturers like Callaway, TaylorMade, Titleist, Golf Pride and more. Understanding each brand and line of products is imperative when fitting a golfer into the best combination of clubs for their individual swing. Club Champion’s impeccably trained fitters and builders are just another defining factor in its continued success. Ranked by Golf Digest as one of the 100 Best Club Fitters ten years running, Club Champion is the only fitter in the country to offer 35,000 interchangeable head and shaft combinations on-site, at all locations. More information on the company and information on how to become a fitter can be found at clubchampiongolf.com.
To further the education of each master fitter after graduating CCU, Club Champion hosts its own online learning center called Thinkzoom. Having Fun With SWFL Golf Course “Reciprocals”! By Joe Morgan-GOLF HOME GURU One of the KEY “perks of owning and living in a Southwest Florida golf community is the off-season reciprocal play system. Virtually every SWFL private golf community offers its members a “Reciprocal List” of 40-60 area golf courses that they can play during the period of May 1 through October 31. In most cases, the cost of the round is equivalent to just slightly more than the cost of a cart fee; and, quite often the hosting club will throw in a heavilydiscounted lunch/beverage in an effort to lure golfers into their dining facilities. Whether your home community is a bundled or non-bundled private club, the “Reciprocal List” of each community will typically include an outstanding mix of each of these types of golf communities. During the summer period, each golf community shuts down one day per week for minor on-
going maintenance, and shuts down twoto-three times, for one-to-two weeks at a time, for major maintenance (aeration, etc). The reciprocal system allows individual members and group foursomes to play other high-quality, challenging golf courses during these shutdown periods. And, the process for setting up tee times is quick and easy…just call your local club pro and he/ she will contact the reciprocal club and set up your preferred tee time. After playing 40-60 (or more) rounds of golf on your home course during January though April—and getting to know every yard of fairway landing area, and every inch of break on the greens—the reciprocal program offers you a very affordable opportunity to test your finely-honed golf skills on a course that you can’t play in your sleep. As all golfers appreciate, playing a golf course for the first time can be an interesting—but often humbling— experience…and it also enables you to discover other courses, and golf communities, that you really like. You may like some of them so much that you’ll play them multiple times during the reciprocal period, and play them from year-to-year; and, in the extreme case, you’ll possibly relocate to one of them in the near future. If you haven’t bought in Southwest Florida yet and you’re in the process of scouting out housing and golf

communities, please be sure to ask each club’s Membership Director and/or Golf Pro to give you a copy of their most recent “Reciprocal List”. In some cases, you can access this list on the community’s website. If you already own in one of our wonderful area golf communities, you’ll automatically receive a “Reciprocal List” online and/or via handouts or mailings. As you review each list, I’d suggest that you look for the following golf courses. These are all outstanding golf venues, and ones that you’ll thoroughly enjoy playing. If you compare this list to my exclusive “GURU Top 25 SWFL Golf Communities” list on my website (GolfHomeGuru.com), you’ll see that all of them are also on that list. There’s no coincidence here, as a major consideration in formulating this list was the quality and playability of the golf course, as determined by my past/current customers, and by me. • Bundled Golf Communities • Naples: Naples Lakes; Vanderbilt; Esplanade; Treviso Bay. Bonita Springs: Bonita National. Estero: Pelican Sound. Ft. Myers: Colonial; Legends. These courses have a number of different designers, and they’re all fun, well-maintained and scenic, and challenging. Naples Lakes is a superb Arnold Palmer “Signature” golf course that was the last golf course that his design company updated before he passed away. Treviso Bay is SWFL’s only TPC-designated golf course, co-designed by Hal Sutton and Arthur Hills…and it demands good shot-making! • Equity/Non-Equity, Economically-Priced Initiation Fee Golf Communities • Naples: Imperial. Bonita Springs: Hunters Ridge. Ft. Myers: Verandah; Gateway; The Plantation. These are also extremely wellmaintained, challenging golf courses, again with a mix of golf course designers. Imperial and Verandah have 36-holes; and, Gateway has the area’s most unique practice range, consisting of a “Golf Academy” school, multiple chipping/short iron greens, and two full-size practice holes. • Equity/Non-Equity, Medium-Priced Initiation Fee Golf Communities • Naples: TwinEagles; The Quarry; Greyhawk/ Golf Club of the Everglades. Ft. Myers: Gulf Harbour. TwinEagles has two 18-hole courses—one designed by Jack Nicklaus—and it hosted the ACE/ Chubb Classic (PGA Champions Tour) for a number of years. The Quarry also features fresh water boating; and Gulf Harbour has its own Gulf-access marina and ridiculously-expensive yachts. • Equity/Non-Equity, Premium-Priced Initiation Fee Golf Communities • Naples: Fiddler’s Creek; Olde Cypress. Bonita Springs: Palmira. Estero: Shadow Wood at the Brooks. Ft. Myers: Fiddlesticks; Miromar Lakes. Fiddler’s Creek not only has a great golf course, but it’s another opportunity to add Gulf boating and a beach club to your amenities resume when you

live there. Ditto for Shadow Wood at the Brooks, and they also offer 54-holes of golf. The two courses at Fiddlesticks are high on my list of personal favorites (how could you not like a course named the “Long and Mean”?), and they just lowered their mandatory golf membership initiation fee from $81K to $50K. Miromar Lakes is an Arthur Hills “grip it and rip it” course off most tees, but tougher shots into its greens. They also have midwest-size fresh water boating lakes. • Equity/Non-Equity, Elite-Priced Initiation Fee Golf Communities • Naples: Grey Oaks; Mediterra; Quail West. Bonita Springs: Bonita Bay. Ft. Myers: Renaissance. Very few clubs have these elite clubs/courses on their “Reciprocal List”; but if you do, DO NOT pass up the opportunity to play them. Spectacular Grey Oaks has three totally-different, very challenging courses; Mediterra has two magnificentlymanicured Tom Fazio courses; and, Quail West has two equally-beautiful Arthur Hills-designed courses. Bonita Bay holds the local record with 90-holes of golf, with three courses on-site in Bonita Springs, and two wildlife-laden courses located in northeast Naples. GolfCoastMagazine.com
The above list features the premier golf courses in SWFL, and you’ll undoubtedly enjoy every round on them. I apologize to the many other fine area courses that didn’t make my list… because most of them are also worthy of your time and money. But, in my experience, the ones listed above are extraordinary opportunities for reciprocal FUN!

TIPS
Head Back At Impact
Master Swing Tips by Steve Anderson, PGA Master Professional Most golfers learning the game have heard to ‘drive their lower body forward’ to start their downswing, and they’re absolutely right. From the top of your swing, your legs, hips and lower body should turn toward the target and your weight should shift almost completely to your front leg. Ben Hogan said to; “Turn your Hips’. Arnold Palmer said to; ‘Drive your knees’. Whatever thought you have, getting your lower body moving forward will add a lot of power to your golf shots. One thing that many amateurs don’t realize though is while your lower body is driving forward it’s important that your head stays back. The photo shows me with one of my great students and I’m holding her head back, right at the moment of impact. If your head slides forward it’ll be next to impossible to square the clubface and you’ll get a big push or slice. Think about it for a moment. Your lower body is driving a lot more forward from where it was at address, so something has to stay back to balance it out. This is your head’s job. Next time you’re hitting balls on the range, check that your head is back, behind the ball at impact. As soon as the ball is gone it’s OK to let your head move forward but it must be back right at the moment of impact. Chipping From Long Rough Master Swing Tips by Steve Anderson, PGA Master Professional One of the highlights of my career was working for the legendary Ken Venturi. Mr. ‘V’ as we called him taught me many things, especially on the short game for which he was considered a true master. Perhaps the best was this fantastic one. Once in a while, you may find yourself just a few yards off the green, but your ball is sitting is long, thick rough. A regular chip won’t work, and attempting a flop shot is not a high percentage play for most golfers. Venturi’s solution was quite unique, and it involves just a slight change in your set-up. The photo shows me setting up with the ball 3-4 inches ‘behind’ or ‘outside’ my back foot. A standard chip has the ball inside of your back toe, but the long rough in this shot dictates that you play the ball farther back. By doing so, your club will naturally swing up and down a bit more which will give you cleaner contact with the ball. Use your sandwedge and expect a little bit of roll, but you’ll instantly notice how cleanly your ball pops out of the rough. Your follow-though will be quite short as your club hits the long rough, but your ball will end up on the green where you’ll have a putt for par. Steve Anderson is a PGA Master Professional and is the Director of Instruction for Hampton Golf. Steve teaches at River Hall Country Club in Ft. Myers, Florida and is the author of 4 best-selling books on golf. He can be contacted through his web site; www.MirrorImageGolf.com or by email at; leftguygolf@gmail.com. GolfCoastMagazine.com

TIPS
Face Is The Most Important Case By Tom Patri
I’ll often ask folks who come to my practice tee if they could master anything about the golf swing what would it be. You can’t every imagine some of the answers I get. Typical answers include shoulder turn , weight transfer , balance and tempo..... All reasonable requests for sure. During my own career I have been blessed to have been mentored by some of the greatest teaching and coaching minds in the last 50+ years. Leadbetter , McLean, Flick, Toski, Hebron, Smith, Strausbaugh, McHatton, Shoemaker, and Lohren, just to name a few. That said the one person and the one day that continues to hit home with me was at least 25 years ago on a hot Fall day at The Champions Club outside Houston, Texas. I was extremely blessed to be able to spend a few days with the great and I mean great Jackie Burke. In case you don’t know Jackie was a wonderful and talented player with many career highlights including victories in both The PGA Championship as well as a little get together in Augusta, Ga. called The Masters. We got talking about what Jackie referred to almost sarcastically “modern teaching”. He went on a moderate rant about all the (as he called it) technology and over complicated BS that was being thrown at the average player. He then simply said not enough respect is being given to the club face ! After all he stated, “doesn’t the club face in fact deliver all the information to the ball” ? “You need to be club face aware to every become a great player” he said. Ever since that day I have always paid extremely close attention to a students club face at several key junctures during the swing. The top, certainly at impact, post impact release conditions , but the one area that amazes me often I see flawed is at the starting gate. We call that GolfCoastMagazine.com

set up. This should and is easy to fix. Imagine fixing a major flaw before the club ever goes in motion. How great would that be! Many more times then not I see a players face slightly closed or slightly open at the set up. Most often the student doesn’t even realize it. I’ll ask the student to set up and hold his or her set up position. I’ll reach over and take hold of the players shaft and slowly lift the club to the students eye level and ask them what they see ? They instantly detect the flaw be it open or closed and certainly realize the face is in fact flawed. The very next question I generally get is why couldn’t I see that on the ground. Before I answer that I tell them although you didn’t consciously see it your brain did. Therefore the brain will try to correct the flaw “ in swing “. Tough to do consistently in less then two seconds at over 80-90 mph. Example - If the face is slightly closed at address the brain will never aggressively release the face robbing you of speed and likely the direction you may have wanted. Let’s go back to the “why” you couldn’t see it on the ground yet it was crystal clear at eye level when I held the shaft up. We are built by the good lord as vertical bi-ocular animals. Meaning we best detect things standing erect and focusing outward at the horizon using both eyes (bi-ocular). When we bend from the waist at somewhere between 0-20 degrees of tilt and view the face AND try to relate it to a target 100-200 + yards away by swizzling our neck to rotate our head 45 degrees no damn chance ! The condition we best function in has been radically altered. Unless we have a process to overcome the unnatural occurrences created by golf we will generally fail.... They need for a sound pre-shot routine to build target line awareness as well as a checkpoint at which we stop and hold the club at eye level and check the face just prior to grounding it behind the ball is paramount. So many tour players do these things almost instinctively. I think all teachers and coaches should be building both a ultra-sound pre shoot routine with a definite face checkpoint for every player they work with! View each of the pictures in this article then test your own club face by setting up to a ball in your own natural set up condition. Without manipulating the club face slowing raise it to eye level. If the leading edge of the club isn’t perfectly perpendicular to the horizon you need to build in a check point at eye level during your pre shot routine. Don’t waist one single great golf swing with a flaw that can be easily prevented. Tom Patri is the President and Founder of TPGOLF. He is a former Met PGA Teacher of the Year. Why You Don’t Want to Practice Before Your Next Round Do you work on your swing mechanics before a round of golf? If yes, you use your pre-round warm-up like many golfers do. Unfortunately, this approach will prevent you from consistently starting your round strong. A pre-round warm-up and a practice session are two very different activities — or at least they should be. Lots of golfers experience slow or difficult starts to their rounds simply because their warm-up didn’t mentally prepare them for play. Let me explain. What Mindset Do You Use on the Course? There are two different mindsets that you can operate from in golf — a training mindset or a trusting mindset. A training mindset is great to use during a practice session on the range because it helps you develop your talent. A trusting mindset is essential on the course because it frees the talent you’ve worked hard to develop. To blur the lines between the two before you play, or to reinforce the training over the trusting mindset during a short warm-up makes it much more difficult to play with the freedom that produces good shots. What is Trust? Trust is a firm belief that you (the operator) and your swing (your ability) are reliable, strong, and effective. Trust involves learning to let go of total control so you can simply and freely swing to your target. Trust takes “trying” out of the equation and allows you to focus on just doing what you believe you can do with your next shot. Trust means playing free of any technical swing thoughts.
One of the most common barriers to consistently playing in a trusting mindset is spending too little time using it.You must allocate some time to reinforce trust on the range, and especially right before you need to use it on the course. How to Prepare to Play Whether you like to spend 15, 30, or even 45 minutes warming up, your warm-up must be a consistent routine that gets your body and your mind into a state of trust, or what I like to call “play” mode. This is not the time for you to get wrapped up in fixing your swing mechanics. Use your warm-up to — • reinforce your mental pre- and post-shot routines • engage your imagination in the process of imagining a beautiful shot before you step up to hit • trust your swing and execute with freedom • treat every shot with as much attention to detail as you do on the course The more your warm-up simulates the elements of live play the more you will actually be preparing yourself to play. But if you use the time to practice you are only going to get better at practicing. For more information on how to organize your pre-round warm-up I invite you to download this month’s free Guide to a Great Warm-Up by typing this link into your computer or phone - http://bit.ly/GCWARMUPGUIDE
