Domaine de Primard Inland Normandy –

A Relais & Chateaux hotel close to three fine golf courses, Domaine de Primard is a perfect renovation of an 18th-century chateau just one hour west of Paris.

I lived in this region and loved the scenery, friendliness and, of course, the bubbles! The city of Reims and town of Epernay are lively, prosperous and historic and the Champagne Houses and locals certainly know how to put The golf is no more/no less than “holiday” but it all makes for a super holiday just boasts sumptuous bedrooms, a Michelin starred restaurant, gardens, spa and an atmosphere that hits the spot every time.

Lisbon and its coastline has won many new fans over the last decade. Our favourite hotel in the region is the Albatroz which overlooks the beautiful harbour of Cascais. It’s small but glamorous and with a panoramic bar and fabulous restaurant. The entire hotel shows that rare attention-to-detail that we all seek. Relais Bella Rosina, Piemonte, Italy – 4*

Bella Rosina is a family-run hotel with hearty and delicious food, comfortable bedrooms, a cosy ambience and two prestigious golf clubs (72 holes in total) just down the road. Set in the Mandria Regional Park, the stunning scenery of the Alps is your constant backdrop but you’re only 40 minutes’ north of the city of Turin.

Congham Hall, Norfolk–3*

A privately-owned manor, Congham Hall is one of the rare UK hotels that surpass all expectations. There are just 31 rooms but the dining, bedrooms, facilities and service level would grace a far more substantial hotel. Close to Sandringham and with three great courses within a 30-minute drive, Congham Hall is a sure-fire winner for a UK short-stay break with class.

Saint-Jean-de-Luz is a bustling and colourful port and has a superb reputation for food. The 47-bedroom La Reserve is set in splendid private gardens close to the ocean and 15 minutes from the heart of the cosmopolitan town. Chef is a “Maitre Restauranteur” specialising in local produce and the terrace is a gorgeous spot on which to enjoy a sundowner or two. La Reserve is an unfussy, well-run hotel putting its location at the forefront of your holiday experience. It’s also close to two centuryold classic golf clubs – the rejuvenated Chantaco and the links of neighbouring Biarritz.

I first visited Coed Y Mwstwr during International lockdown and I’ve enjoyed it ever since. The locals are welcoming and caring and the comfort on offer is good. The quality of food is excellent and the bedrooms are cosy, as are the lounges. There’s an outdoor bar and gardens for warmer days. A perfect, friendly and great- value spot, close to three firstclass links too…Including the World Top 100 Royal Porthcawl.

Domaine de la Bretesche, South Brittany -5*

I’ve stayed at La Bretesche many times over the years and it always puts a smile on my face. The hotel boasts beautiful bedrooms in the manor house, generous self-catering cottages in the grounds and the woodland golf course provides a fine and fair test of golf. The riverside town of La Guerande is close by and the smart beach resort of La Baule is 30 minutes. The hotel has a gourmet restaurant and brasserie, spa, and bars on the courtyard, the clubhouse terrace and in the converted stables. It’s a class act, but unpretentious and great value-for-money.

Hotel Encinar de Sotogrande, Costa del Sol - 4*

Just seven minutes’ drive from the marina at Sotogrande and surrounded by worldclass courses this delightful hotel is a mix of art-deco/contemporary design with plenty of space and a relaxed and peaceful feel. Breakfast is huge, dinner is always good and there’s a fabulous brasserie just a three-minute walk away. I’ve based the price on a Superior bedroom with private terrace.

Little known to UK golfers, Chateau du Lac is a large hotel with facilities to match including excellent spa, gym and brasserie. Plus there are half-a-dozen eateries dotted around the beautiful lake. There are several rather special golf courses in the area too. Already popular with discerning European golfers, many come here for an escape from the norm and the chance to visit Brussels and Waterloo.

Hotel 202, Hossegor, South-West France

–An entrancing area of south-west France with four European Top 100 courses in the vicinity. Hotel 202 is a great choice for its warm welcome, 22 contemporary bedrooms and proximity to the myriad of eateries in the understated but famous resort of Hossegor. The hotel has a pool, bar and underground car park so you’re all set for the most relaxing of beach and golf holidays. I’ve based the price on the mid-range Comfort Bedroom.
