Madeira is a Portuguese island known as the pearl of the north Atlantic. It sits about 500 miles west of the Moroccan coast and is famous for its subtropical climate and sweet wine. If you like nature, good food and breathtaking scenery, you’re going to love Madeira. Hotel Spendida is a charming four-star quinta located in the village of Canico, just 7 miles from Funchal. Aphrodite Hills, nr Paphos Aphrodite Hills is a large quality-oriented resort taking in apartments, selfcatering houses and villas, a five-star hotel, a PGA National golf course and academy, enough sports facilities to host a miniOlympics and over a dozen restaurants and bars. The resort is spread over a huge piece of land so there’s space to spare and a very agreeable ambience about the place. The golf course sits easily among the best in Europe and is beautifully presented and provides a fair test with a few real knee-jerkers. It’s great fun.
The flight to Paphos takes about four hours and the weather is ideal for golfers all year-round. It’s even shorts and shirt sleeves in winter. The Cypriots have always been great hosts but I was also delighted with the quality of the food and local wine on my recent visit…Not only at Aphrodite Hills but the local restaurants too.
