O, here we are. At the end of one year and the beginning of a new one. As we wrap up 2017, it is natural to look back, but what is taking up even more of our time is looking ahead at a shiningly new 2018. In planning next year’s collection of Goliath issues, the feeling of having a clean slate is always great, and it is clear that our editorial line is becoming even stronger to fill Goliath to the brim with lifestyle content angled at the LGBTQ community. And we can’t wait to show you what we have in store for you as Atlanta’s premier gay lifestyle magazine. So let this issue be a precursor of what quality content we have in store for you. To guide you through the Holiday season (and beyond), we serve up some crafty cocktail recipes along with some choice items to up your bar game. Whether or not you’re a resolutions person, we present

BOOZY RECIPES FOR THE ’17 HOLIDAYS ‘TIS THE SEASON – TO TAKE THE EDGE OFF ODE TO WHISKY(SOUR)

Created by NYCmixologist Andrey Kalinin 2 oz Laphroaig Select Scotch Whisky 3/4 oz lemon juice 3/4 oz heather honey syrup 3 dashes cardamom bitters 1 egg white Fresh cardamom
Punch up your holiday parties with festive cocktail recipes, new-release liquors and wines, and artisan mixers and accessories.
Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker. Dry shake (if using egg white). Add ice and shake vigorously. Pour into a coupe or martini glass, served up. Garnish with cardamom flakes.
HOT ROCKET 4 oz Rocket vodka 8 oz apple cider or unfiltered juice 1 tsp maple syrup 2 sprigs fresh rosemary
JINGLE JUICE 1 1/2 oz Port Cask Finished Virginia-Highland Whisky 1 oz cranberry sage simple syrup* 1/2 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice 1/2 oz freshly squeezed lime juice 1/2 oz Cointreau Fresh red cranberries Orange bitters Combine first five ingredients into shaker with ice. Shake vigorously until shaker is wcompletely frosted. Pour into a sugar-rimmed glass and top with two dashes of orange bitters. Stir and garnish with red cranberries.
Add vodka to hot cider or unfiltered juice. Stir in teaspoon of maple syrup. Garnish with rosemary sprigs.

HOLIDAY ROAD PUNCH 15 oz pomegranate green tea liqueur with Everclear (Recipe at www.makeityourown.com) 5 oz vodka 5 oz white rum 10 oz lime juice 10 oz champagne Combine all ingredients except champagne in a pitcher or punch bowl. Mix and chill in refrigerator eight hours or more (overnight works best). Just before serving, add chilled champagne and stir carefully. Add ice, along with 10 lime wheels.Serve in punch glasses, ice optional. Garnish with lime wheel.
2 oz smooth persimmon purée 1 1/2 oz reposado tequila 1/2 oz Cointreau 1/2 oz fresh lime juice 1 Tbsp simple syrup 1 cup ice cubes 1 lime wedge, for garnish Combine the persimmon purée, tequila, Cointreau, lime juice, simple syrup, and ice cubes in a blender. Blend until the texture is thick and smooth. Pour and enjoy.

Whether it’s starting a new diet or workout regiment, many simply just want to make some type of change and renew themselves for a new year. 2018 – an all new year with new opportunities and changes that have the potential to make a difference in your life – especially if you choose to use them constructively. 2018 is full of positive power and gives you ample opportunity to convert your life happenings into immediate rewards. Here are some strategies that will help to build a new you in the new year.
RESOLUTIONS OF POSITIVITY Be Visible The most important thing the LGBT community can do is to be present and vocal. We must live without FEAR, and we must continue to speak up for our rights. Harvey Milk said it best: “There is no downside to being visible.”
Build A Positive Community Support every part of the LGBTQ community whether lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender. Hate or segregation has no place in our community. Talk to one another and stick together. This makes us stronger together. The more we support each other, the more we can continue to demand our equal rights. Please remember no matter who you are, there is nothing wrong with you.

Be kind for no reason 5. Change your environment 6. Leave the PAST in the PAST, and learn to let it go. Let go of the anger, the hate, past hurt and pain and begin to create that space for things that truly serve you. We can’t dwell on the past.
ABOUT GETTING HELP Mental health is a subject that is often swept under the rug so it can be difficult to acknowledge your mental health and get the necessary help. I am completely guilty of suppressing a lot of issues until about five years ago when I decided to start getting the help I needed. I have suffered from almost all of it and still have to take every day of my life step by step and breath by breath. However, between my yoga practice, faith, going to church, and my counseling sessions, I can honestly said that I am at my highest level in my life. When you thoughtfully factor in your endgame you may work your way up to being frugal. You don’t. If you dwell in the past how can you be with anyone, including yourself, right now?
