n today’s world, most people automatically think if you have a bad past or if you have made many mistakes you are no good to God. Folks think God can’t use them because of their mistakes. Well I have some great news for you, you are exactly who God needs in the harvest because you have been there and experienced firsthand what it is like to mess up in life. That is the thing; God uses us to help others that are going through the same thing we have been through. We can witness and tell these folks that yes, we used to do the same thing they are doing, but we can tell them how God brought us out of that sin, and put us on the straight and narrow path. The Bible says in Romans 10:13(KJV), “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved!” You notice that it said whosoever? See that is the thing, it doesn’t matter what kind of background you have, what you have done in your life, what color you are, what nationality you are; you can be saved. It is plainly stated in that text that whosoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. It did not say, might be saved, it said shall be saved! Praise the Lord! You may be reading this article right now and have been thinking that you could never be used by God because of things you are doing now in life or things have did in your past. Let me encourage you and say that is an evil lie. God can and will use you to do his work. 6 // August 2018
All you have to do is fully surrender to God. When the Holy Ghost of God starts dealing with your heart, fall on your knees and cry out to God to save you. He will not only save you, but He will clean you up and use you to do His work. God says “whosoever” 163 times in the KJV Bible. This simply means whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved! It means you, too, can be saved. So give God a try and you will never regret it! Thank God, I’m a part of the whosoever!

ear God, How are you? My name is Malcolm. I am 9 years old. I’m doing good too. Well... Maybe not so good. You see I had I kind of got into trouble with my dad. He kind of told me to take the trash out and I kind of forgot because I was playing my game on my video. I was winning the race on my favorite game and I couldn’t stop. My dad didn’t like it when I said I would get to it later. Well, Dad told me that I should pray about my attitude. So he sent me to my room. When I got to my room, I thought about a few things when it comes to praying. I thought about how it can be a little scary. Do you really hear me? And am I doing this right? I didn’t think that I really knew how to pray. I have seen other people pray in church. It seems like it would be kind of scary to pray in front of all those people. My dad says that I don’t have to worry about all those people. He said that praying is just like sitting down and talking to my best friend at school. I can talk to my best friend it’s cool about everything. Dad said You are my best friend. He said that you are a friend that sticks closer then a brother. My brother is pretty cool. He’s a little older than me though. I am sometimes a little worried that you don’t hear me. Dad said that in the book of Jeremiah that it says it when we call on you that you will answer us and show us Great and

Mighty wonderful things that we can’t figure out for ourselves. That’s way too cool. My dad also said that in James it says someone who is following you with their whole heart would do a lot in prayer. So I know that you hear me because the Bible tells me so. I asked Mom about if I was doing it the right way. I have seen some people stand up, some people sit down like we do when we eat and some people lie on the floor and pray. I thought one person was asleep but they were really praying (Haha). Mom said that when we worship you we must worship you and pray with a true and honest heart. She said that it doesn’t really matter or make a difference if we are standing or sitting. Although she said a lot of times we close our eyes so that we can not worry about anything around us. We also bow our heads so that we can honor God. You know God, praying is like writing this letter. I feel like we are best friends. I think that I will keep writing as my prayer to you. Thank you for changing my heart. Thank you for loving me. Your friend, Malcolm

Gò0dNews for Men
My Son Jeremiah s a father, I am constantly faced with the challenge of how to raise my sons to be good men. In our current political climate, this is often met with stigma but alas, I want my sons to know who God wants them to be more than what culture demands they be. My eldest son is named Jeremiah. He doesn’t go by that name but it is the name he was given and for a specific reason. Jeremiah is my favorite prophet but not for the reasons you might think. It is because of this passage: “O LORD, you have deceived me, and I was deceived; you are stronger than I, and you have prevailed. I have become a laughingstock all the day; everyone mocks me. For whenever I speak, I cry out, I shout, ‘Violence and destruction!’ For the word of the LORD has become for me a reproach and derision all day long.” - Jeremiah 20: 8-9 (ESV) This is one of the most genuine conversations in scripture. Jeremiah opens up to God in ways we often fear to do. He exclaims that God is sending him into situations where he is being ridiculed and laughed at. He expresses that God is sending him to fail time and time again. Jeremiah’s mind is processing the world by his failure. His five senses tell him that his mission is futile and that his God is authoring his failure. But Jeremiah feels something more. He senses something deeper than what he sees, hears, and touches. “If I say, ‘I will not mention him, or speak any more in his name,’ there is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I am weary with holding it in, and I cannot.” – Jeremiah 20: 10 (ESV) Jeremiah knows, in his bones, that his task is

greater than his emotional response. He knows that it is a greater injustice to deny what he feels driving him than to suffer the failure and social ridicule he knows to come. This is why I named my son Jeremiah. I need my son to understand his name. I need him to know that he should always be honest with God about what he is feeling and is facing. I need him to feel a burning in his bones that eclipses those moments when he is faced with failure. I want him to know the unmistakable drive in his heart that his life is for a purpose. I want him to hear the call of his Creator through the noise of the social ridicule that he is destined to face.

o, this new day may feel very much old already, way too familiar to get excited about. Those needed routines of chores and charts are set before you daily without fail. From experience, I know the days can bleed one into another; they begin to blur together. While everyone is living for the weekend, you’re just living for a day that doesn’t look like yesterday and every day before that. You dream of doing "big things" in "big places", but can I plead with you to realize that what you are doing on this ordinary day is the most important thing you will ever do? It is an extraordinary thing to make disciples for Christ in the children you are raising. You are living the Great Commission in your consistent service to the people of your home. It doesn't feel exciting, but it is lasting. It doesn't feel important, but it is eternal. The schedule of parenthood threatens to numb you into just going through the motions; this is a staleness never intended for us by our Heavenly Father. He knows routines can get tedious, and He alone is our cure for monotony. Yes, the laundry needs doing, and the family needs feeding, and the floor needs sweeping. But more so, your heart needs tending, and your spirit needs refreshing, and your joy needs increasing. When we allow the Holy Spirit into our ordinary day, we live a life extraordinary. Let Jesus into your routine today. In Matthew 6:33, Jesus tells us, “Seek first the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need.” The same Greek word for “seek” is used when Mary and Mary

Magdalene approached the empty tomb of Jesus. The angel said to the distraught women, “I know that you are looking for Jesus.” This is the same seeking that Jesus encourages us to do first, before the boredom sets in or the chaos gets moving, “Look for Me. Look for Me in your everyday moments. Look for Me in your overwhelming times. Look for Me in the smallest of things. Look for Me first and I will give you everything you need. Do you need energy? Look for Me. Do you need peace? Look for Me. Do you need rest? Look for Me. Do you need wisdom? Look for Me.” “If you look for Me wholeheartedly, you will find Me” (Jeremiah 29:13). Everything we need or could ever desire is found in Jesus Christ. You don’t have to muster with all your might to produce the fulfillment of your needs. You don’t have to grit your teeth and strain to acquire provision. Look to Jesus. Call His name in moments of frustration; cry out to Him when you’re overwhelmed; whisper through your tears to your Savior. These precious days may feel long, but when you seek Christ, they will not be lacking. “Every good and perfect gift comes from above” (James 1:17). “The LORD directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every details of their lives” (Psalm 37:23).

Life Is Like a Beach Ball by Sheila Bird
22 // August 2018
Joshua instructed his armies to destroy the entire city. They were only allowed to keep the things made from silver, gold, bronze, or iron for the treasury of the LORD’s house. But a man named Achan stole some of the forbidden things and hid them among his own belongings. God was so angry that He told Israel He would never defeat their enemies until they removed the stolen things from among them. When Joshua confronted Achan he had this to say, “Among the plunder I saw a beautiful robe from Babylon, 200 silver coins, and a bar of gold weighing more than a pound. I wanted them so much that I took them. They are hidden in the ground beneath my tent, with the silver buried deeper than the rest.” Joshua 7:21 (NLV) He wanted them so much he just took them without angst. Much like I took that beach ball. Only Achan and his family were stoned to death in order to purge Israel from the sin of disobedience. Because of Jesus, we don’t have to fear being stoned to death for our sins like Achan. But unconfessed sin will eventually result in a myriad of destructive consequences. It can yield death to relationships, health, finances and so much more. So beware my friend, life is like a beach ball. If you are bouncing around in the pleasures of sin, just when you least expect it, you may find yourself completely deflated in the bottom of a pool of regret. Even as a child I knew that the truth was the only thing that would set me free. The same applies to us today. The Bible tells us in I John 1:9 that if we confess our sins God will be faithful to forgive us. Not only that, He will clean up our deceitful heart and bring goodness back into our lives. If sin has sucked the air out of you, let Jesus breathe new life into your soul. Get your bounce back. Enjoy your freedom in the Son. “Therefore if the Son makes you free you are free indeed”! (NKJ)

A story of deflated enthusiasm and tears of regret each balls and summer time go hand in hand. Whether it’s the lake, the pool or the beach, visions of fun in the sun are not complete without one. I grew up in the Florida suburbs where every yard had a pool, a fence and yes, a beach ball. Every yard except for mine. Every day I was faced with the miserable fate of going out into my back yard and longing for someone else’s possessions. One day I decided that if I couldn’t have a pool of my own that at least I deserved a beach ball. For days I patiently calculated a way to make my neighbor’s ball my own. There was only one problem. Their pool was blockaded by a sprawling chain link fence that went far above my little six year old head. One day the wind blew that ball out of the pool and into the corner of the neighbor’s yard right up against the fence. I immediately put my pre-meditated plan into action. I slipped my tiny hand through the bottom hole in the fence underneath the ball. Then hand over hand I began to slowly lift the ball as high as I could reach. With one last effort, I stood on my tip toes, gave it a little pat and over the fence it came. I was absolutely delighted. I played with my newly acquired toy for hours without an ounce of remorse as to how it came into my possession. Unbeknownst to me the neighbors had watched my every move out their kitchen window. Then they called my parents to report their little neighborhood thief. My genius plan had backfired and the consequences were piling up painfully fast. As I recall this story with humor and a bit of embarrassment, it brings to mind a Bible story in the Old Testament about thievery and deception that had inconceivable consequences. The children of Israel had just marched around the walls of Israel seven times as the Lord commanded. With a shout the walls came tumbling down and God gave them the city.

opportunity to be an example to your spouse, children, and other loved ones and encourage them to take care of their gift, too. Each one of my clients and class participants bring something to our professional relationship that teaches me and encourages me. The lessons that stick out to me the most and touch my heart are the ones where someone has or is going through a serious health crisis and has still chosen to continue to be active, if allowed, and the ones who have chosen to, essentially, start from scratch. They have seen health scares, they have gone through treatments, they have endured pain and suffering - yet they choose to continue. They choose to pick up a set of weights, or they choose to step foot into a class, or they simply get on a walking trail - and they go. This mindset can be applied to anyone, no matter where you are. Just go. Each day we are on this earth is a day to be a light for this tired and hurting world around us. If we neglect the home our souls reside in, the home that our Lord and Savior abides in - how can we expect ourselves to be the best light we can be? The best cars take premium gas to run most efficiently why would you put anything less than premium in your precious body? Fuel it right, treat it well, get it moving - and GO.

Therefore honor God with your bodies…” n my profession, I am honored to get to help individuals each and every day take strides to improve their health. Through teaching group classes to private training, I get to work with a wide variety of people and help them reach their goals. The last 6 months, God has really placed on my heart the significance of what I am allowed to do - and, I believe part of this is because the fragility of our health and life has been heavy in my mind the last several months. Health can be a very precarious thing and there is so much sickness and tragedy that floods our world. The gift of health is precious and often I find myself crying out in gratitude of how thankful I am for having a well and able body. Life is so short - it’s meant to be lived and lived well and it is truly our responsibility to treat our bodies well. While each of us have personal goals, we all should have a common goal of being kind to our physical body. We know as believers our souls are our true beings and this earthly body will one day fade away - but what about now? What about today? God has commanded us to be a good steward of the gifts we have been given and I whole heartedly believe each day we wake up, breathing, and alive is a gift. Each day is an opportunity to fuel your body with whole, real food. It’s an opportunity to get outside and be active. It’s an opportunity to get rest and renew our bodies and mind. It’s an

Great gym to get it done. And not all hype like the other 24h gyms. Has what I need and love the monthly no contract price. I don’t feel bad if I missed a few weeks. Unlike my other overpriced gym. Staff is friendly and helps me if I notice anything that needs attention. Like a family gym where your suggestions matter. — P. Shevchuk I think this place is great. Plenty of equipment and everything is clean. I am scared when the secret gets out about this place because right now I have not observed it to be busy at all. I use this gym on the weekend and then go to another gym closer to my house during the week so I don’t see a lot of staff. The staff I have come in contact with have been really nice and helpful. Their trainers seem to be knowledgeable and they have a large variety of classes. Not that I would ever workout at 3 AM but it is nice to know I have the option so I also appreciate the 24/7 access. Keep up the great work. — Matt C.

Servanthood by Lebron Arwine
Self-discipline is vital to being successful. In life, you won't always have people to push you and encourage you but you have to find it within yourself to focus and be disciplined! There are three principles I have learned to live by that have set me up for success. When you are provided with an opportunity to pursue your BIG dreams, you must operate in Excellence, Honor, and Servanthood! Operating in excellence does not mean that you have to be perfect. When you take risks, you will drop the ball and fail form time to time; but when operating in excellence, there are things that you can control. You can control being prepared, being punctual, having a great attitude!
26 // August 2018
Honor is very important when pursuing your dreams. It’s easy to honor people in whom you admire and look up to. Where the rubber meets the road is when you choose to honor the people around you that you don’t feel like honoring to accomplish and reach your goals. That is called character! The final principle that I live by is servanthood. “If you want to become great among men, you must become the most servant of all!” (Matthew 20:26-27). It doesn't matter if you are on the bottom or at the very top, keep your heart in a posture of servanthood. Never become too proud to serve your neighbor. Pattern your life after these principles, set big goals, and stay disciplined, and you will be successful and can achieve whatever you set your heart to do!

an electronically secured wing called, “The Harbor”. Memory Care residents have a specialized activity program, the Purposeful Day, which is designed to meet the needs of seniors with memory loss. This program allows our caring staff to value each resident and to recognize each of their different histories, current desires
and needs. They recognize that memory loss effects everyone differently, and that is why they developed a special service plan for each resident. A Purposeful Day focuses on four types of non-drug therapy - Reminisce Therapy, Trusted Voice Therapy, Time and Place Therapy and Music Therapy.
The Harbor was designed with a circadian rhythm lighting system that mimics natural sunlight, promoting the body’s daylight to darkness routine. It carefully orchestrates light and dark patterns to mimic the sun rising in the morning, shining throughout the day and slowly setting in the afternoon. Carefully orchestrated light/dark patterns have been shown in several controlled studies of older populations, to be a powerful non-drug tool to improve sleep efficiency and alertness during the day. Another technological tool is the SimpleC electronic story-board which was created through years of research as a non-drug therapy to promote reminiscence, music, time and place, and trusted voice therapies. The SimpleC program provides
non-medical therapy through focusing on each resident’s personal story. They work with families to select stories, photos, interests and record trusted voices to assist in memory stimulation and timely reminders for activities of daily living. This technology is the result of years of study and development with cutting edge research institutions including Johns Hopkins, Emory, Georgia Tech, and Georgia State University. Each resident will have access to an interactive flatpanel monitor that will display
family photos, broadcast recorded messages from family members, and play their favorite music.
If you would like to learn more about the advantages of their premier senior living community, you can visit them at 2255 Candies Lane NW, Cleveland, TN 37312 or online at legacycleveland.net. You can also call them at 423-472-4700 and schedule a time to tour the community. goodnewscm.com // 31

7 Tips for Adopting a Healthy Diet
W
by Shannon Alvey
hile most of us know that good nutrition is a key factor in determining how well we age, many of us aren’t exactly sure what constitutes a
healthy diet. It seems as if there is a new diet being touted on television as the latest and greatest way to eat almost every week. It’s no wonder people are so confused. A healthy diet plays a huge role in successful aging. Here’s what credible research says we should base our diet on: 1. Fruit and vegetables: You can reap the rewards of a diet rich in vitamins, minerals, fiber, and antioxidants by creating menus comprised mainly of fruits and vegetables. Brightly-colored vegetables like spinach, beets, and
5. Whole grains: Quinoa, oatmeal, grits, brown rice, wild rice, and whole-grain bread are all good things to include in your diet. These fiber-rich foods help stabilize blood sugar and manage cholesterol while also promoting digestive health. 6. Avoid trans fats: By now you’ve probably heard that trans fats are bad for you, but like many people, you aren’t sure why. It’s largely because these unhealthy fats are linked to heart disease and other chronic health problems. Trans fats are especially high in some fast foods and convenience foods like frozen dinners.
kale, as well as deep-colored fruits like blueberries, black berries, and tomatoes are all good options to incorporate in to your diet. These foods can also help to decrease inflammation in the body. 2. Protein: Older adults often fail to eat enough protein to keep their muscles and bones strong. Easyto-prepare, low-fat protein sources, such as poultry, fish, legumes, beans, eggs, and nuts, are often best for seniors. Avoid protein sources that are high in fat, such as red meat. 3. Dairy: Older adults are often diagnosed with a vitamin D deficiency. Sometimes it is because they don’t spend as much time outdoors soaking up their body doesn’t process vitamin D and calcium properly. A vitamin D deficiency can lead to bone loss, bone fractures, and osteoporosis. Dairy products like milk, cheese, and yogurt are all rich in vitamin D and calcium. Mushrooms, canned tuna, and sardines are other good choices. 4. Limit refined sugar: Most of us eat far too much sugar, often without realizing it. The American Heart Association guidelines suggest that American women limit sugar intake to just 100 calories per day (about six teaspoons or 20 grams) and men to 150 calories per day (about nine teaspoons or 36 grams). The best way to keep sugar from creeping in to your diet is to read food labels, even for things that seem healthy. Ketchup, yogurt, fruit juice, protein bars, salad dressing, and canned fruits can all be hidden sources of sugar in your diet.
34 // August 2018
7. Stay hydrated: Water is another key part of a healthy diet. It helps flush toxins out of the body while also encouraging bowel regularity and a healthy immune system. If you or your senior loved one aren’t big water-drinkers, foods like spinach, lettuce, tomatoes, melon, berries, cucumbers, and grapes all have a high water content that promotes hydration. One final tip to help you create healthy menus for yourself or a senior you love is to take advantage of the Dietary Reference Intake (DRI) calculator. The DRI was created by the Department of Agriculture to help calculate daily nutrient goals. Enter your height, weight, age, and activity level to receive a personalized report for everything from vitamin C to fiber. About The Author

ave you been looking for a way to rejuvenate or enhance your natural beauty? Whether you wish to smooth away fine lines and wrinkles, gently lift sagging brows or plump aged lips, many patients have found a happy medium with non-surgical alternatives . Here are a few of the most effective, non-invasive solutions. Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing While some laser treatments are highly invasive and require significant downtime, not all laser treatments are created equally. Fractional, non-ablative skin resurfacing is the only laser rejuvenation method which offers both excellent results and no downtime. Wrinkles, sun damage (pigmentation defects), and superficial scars are conditions treated by fractional methods. Fractional skin treatments deliver laser light in an array of narrow, focused “microbeams” to create columns of heat within the skin. These “microbeams” penetrate deep into the dermis for the most effective, long-term results obtainable. The heated tissue within the columns starts a natural healing process that forms new, healthy tissue and, ultimately alters the collagen and elastin below your skin’s surface which gradually decrease the appearance of sunspots, fine lines, wrinkles, and acne scarring. A series of treatments may be required to achieve the desired results. Facial Fillers Hoping to erase lines or folds around your mouth? Perlane, Belotero, Versa, and Juvederm are dermal fillers composed of Hyaluronic acid which are often used for deeper facial lines such as the Nasolabial folds (lines from the nose to the lip sometimes called smile lines) and marionette lines near the corners of the mouth. They are also used to plump lips in a nonsurgical lip augmentation. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance found in the human body. When we age, however, our hyaluronic acid (HA) supply depletes. This lack of HA can cause our tissues to appear deflated and wrinkled. Perlane and Juvederm injections restore lost hyaluronic acid to rejuvenate aged skin or plump lips. The effects of such HA fillers typically last 6 to 12 months. Youthful Cheeks Unlike Juvederm, Belotero, Versa, and Perlane which are comprised of HA, Radiesse is an injectable filler made of tiny calcium-based microspheres which are suspended in a natural,
38 // August 2018
water-based gel. These calcium based microspheres are similar to minerals that are found naturally in your body. Over time, your body absorbs these tiny microspheres in the gel and leaves behind only your own natural collagen. Radiesse is typically used to treat the cheek region of the face and lasts a year or more. Some of the newer stimulation facial fillers can last 5 years or more. Around the Eye Restoration If you wish to restore youth under your eyes, fat transfer may be a good choice. Utilizing fat harvested from the abdominal wall, allows hollows and contour lines to be restored around the eyes. Neuromodulators: Lift Droopy Brows & Correct Frown Lines Neuromodulators relax dynamic muscles that create wrinkles as they contract. Areas that can be treated with Botox include crow’s feet. frown lines, forehead lines, neck lines and chin dimpling. Botox can gently lift drooping brows, elongate the appearance of the chin or elevate the corners of the lips, enhancing the patient’s smile. A small amount injected in the lip border reduces the appearance of lip lines and can help the lips appear plumper. Botox injection is the most popular nonsurgical cosmetic procedure today. Improvement of the wrinkles may last up to four to six months. Until recently, Botox was the only botulinum toxin preparation with a cosmetic indication. Dysport, the first competitor with similar indications, was approved in April 2009. We now have Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin; with other neuromodulators to come in the near future. Regardless of the non-surgical procedure you wish to undergo, be sure to choose your provider wisely. Facial injection is an art form and you must choose your artist well. Review before and after photographs and make sure you have appropriate expectations for non-surgical facial enhancement before you go for facial review. Make sure that your aesthetic ideal matches that of your cosmetic surgeon artist. Above all, make sure that you are prepared for an inner beauty rejuvenation at that same time; beauty is more than skin deep.

The God Who Sees by Dorothy Teague

About The Author
ow many times have we strayed off the path God has for us, tried to rush God’s timing, and took a BIG detour? We get tired of being in the “waiting room” and decide to take matters into our own hands. We arrogantly try to wrest control from God, thinking WE know better! When we engage in a detour, God is not pleased, but He understands. He understands “we are dust” (Psalm 103:14). He still loves us because we are His children. 1 Corinthians 13:11 says, we need to put away childish things when we are older and walk in our faith as God would have us to. God is omnipresent. He sees us where we are now, where we’ve been, and where we are going to be in the somedays of our life. As Genesis 16:13 states, “He is the God Who sees.” We are not the first to make the mistake of stepping out of God’s timing. Cue Abraham and Hagar, and, let’s not forget Sarai. They all played a part of trying to rush God’s plan of making Abraham the Father of many nations. They waited and waited for the child God had promised. Nothing happened, so they decided to put a plan of their own together. It was Sarai that suggested Abraham “go in and lie with her(Hagar),” so that they might have a child, since Sarai was barren. Abraham did not argue with her and Hagar became pregnant. Sarah got angry and jealous, and Hagar was sent off into the desert to fend for herself. Abraham was a man caught in the middle of a very bad plan, but aren’t our plans always flawed? Even though God wasn’t happy with their actions, He took pity on Hagar and told her she would have a son, Ishmael (which would become the Father of the Arab nation). Hagar said, “You are the God who sees.” Truer words could not be spoken. God sees our sin, but also sees our sorrow and pain. He sees our tears and keeps them all in a bottle (Psalm 56:8). God is present everywhere and at all times. There is no place where He is not. Jeremiah 23:24 says, “Can a man hide himself in secret places so that I can not see Him?” Psalm 139:7-10 asks “Where shall I flee from Your presence?” Job 34:21 states that “His eyes are on the ways of man and He sees all his steps.” Yes, God is the God Who sees us right where we are, with all our flaws and failures, stains and sorrows, and He loves us anyway. But, as my pastor, Dr. Tony Crisp says, “He loves us too much to leave us there” in the mess that we made of our lives by stepping out of His will. It’s then that He picks us up out of our mess and turns it into a message that we can tell others in order to glorify Him!

Zucchini Bread by Deanna Thompson
reads come in all kinds, shapes, and sizes. Whether it is a yeast bread or a batter bread (like zucchini bread), the main ingredient of the bread is the flour, which comes from wheat kernels. Wheat kernels can be stored for thousands of years if they are kept cool and dry, and they can remain dormant for many years in dry areas (like a desert) until the rains come. Once a wheat kernel comes in contact with water and warmth, however, the seed “dies” and changes its form to become a new plant. This new plant looks nothing like the seed it came from, just like a caterpillar looks nothing like the butterfly it becomes. Yet, the new plant will produce many seeds—perhaps hundreds or even thousands—that do look like the single seed from which the plant sprang forth. As Jesus said in John 12:24, “Unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.” If a wheat kernel is stored in a bucket, it will remain safe, but it will only remain the same one kernel; if the kernel “dies” by being planted, it will produce many seeds. Paralleling this, Jesus goes on to say in the next verse, “He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.” If we love our life so much that we want to keep it “safe” and comfortable, enjoying the sin life we were born into, we will lose our life for eternity. However, if we hate our lives in this world—not hating living but hating our lives in the sinful world we were born into, hating the sin we are prone to do, and hating being separated from God—then we will keep our lives for eternity. So, will you be the wheat kernel kept in the bucket, safe and comfortable, loving the world you are in but not changing the world for God and producing seeds for His Kingdom? Or will you be the wheat kernel thrown to the wet ground, hidden from the sun and from view for a time, to undergo a complete metamorphosis so that you can be all God created you to be and produce fruit for Him?

Are you looking for a day trip for your family that is interactive, fun, and educational? Are you a business or civic organization looking for meeting space, event space, or theatrical space? Are you in need of a clearer picture of how the stories of the Bible tie together? Trek Thru Truth (TTT) will be a facility dedicated to tell 52+ Bible stories to children and families through hands-on interactive exhibits, murals, art, music, drama, technology and more. 26 Old Testament and 26 New Testament exhibits will highlight the stories as well as the culture, language, foods, professions, transportation, etc. from that period. Theme Fusion and Jonathan Martin Creative are collaborating as the design team for the exhibit designs. Theme Fusion developed the new TTT logo and exhibit concepts for seven of the Bible stories for this 60,000-70,000 sf children’s museum for Cleveland, Tennessee. Jonathan Martin will bring his experience to the table with Museum of the Bible, Ark Encounter, and Holy Land Experience with his design reviews and craftsmanship as the project develops. e as humans don’t like to wait. Have you ever got frustrated while waiting in the drive through? While riding beside the slow car in the left lane that refuses to move? While most of us are in a hurry, let’s face it – sometimes it feels as if God is in no hurry at all. God may seem slow, but He always has a plan, and a purpose for everything. The biggest problem we have is not having all the details of the situation we are facing at the time. My pastor says that God will show us the trailer, but not the entire movie (plan for our life). He says that if God would show us the entire movie, we would get scared and run away from His plan. It is easy to get discourage in the wait, but we must be careful to not let the enemy convince us that God is uncaring or mad at us. Discouragement hit Mary and Martha while they were waiting on Jesus to come and heal their brother Lazarus that had died. When Jesus arrived He heard the words, “If you had only been here..” Waiting has a tendency to bring out the true colors in people. Waiting builds patience in our lives. Patience in the small things builds continue patience in the big things. Sometimes we need to change our perspective on things. Waiting builds anticipation! We tend to appreciate things more if we wait for them. Waiting transforms your character. It tends to be the “sandpaper” that rubs off the rough
46 // August 2018
edges in our life, those areas we need the Holy Spirit’s guidance in. Waiting will build intimacy and a dependency on God. During those difficult times we need to develop our relationship with God, and it can also bring about some of the most intimate times in our walk with the Lord. God is just as interested in your journey, as much as He is your destination! We may not always understand, but the Good News is that we don’t have to wait alone, God is always with us in the wait!! What are you waiting on? A spouse? Healing? Financial breakthrough? Salvation for a loved one? Don’t lose heart! You’re not alone in the wait! Invite the Father to come along with you in your waiting journey, and He will celebrate with you upon reaching the destination! Psalm 62:1 in the Passion Translation says this, “ I stand silently to listen for the One I love, WAITING as long a it takes for the Lord to rescue me! For God alone has become my Savior!”

Who is the Enemy? or we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places” (Ephesians 6:12, KJV). At some point, we have all been frustrated or angry with someone, whether it was a family member, a friend, or a stranger. There is a temptation to take out our frustrations on others when this happens. Is that the right thing to do? What is the proper response? The Apostle Paul wrote the letter to the Ephesians while he was in prison. He was not guilty of breaking any crime; he was arrested for telling others about Jesus. It would have been easy for him to have anger towards those that put him in jail. During this trial, he imparted to the Ephesians a powerful revelation. He shared that people (flesh and blood) are not our enemies! Our adversaries are the spiritual forces of darkness (see also Eph. 2:2, I Peter 5:8). Let’s take a moment to review what happened to Paul while he was in the city of Ephesus (Acts 19:23-41). In this city lived a silversmith named Demetrius. He made money making idols of the pagan goddesses Diana. As Paul preached, people were getting rid of their idols and giving their lives to Jesus. As would be expected, this caused a decline in the idol trade. Demetrius stirred up other worshipers of this goddess and made them angry at Paul. Eventually, an entire mob of people gathered to oppose him. In the middle of this commotion, we learn that “…the assembly was confused, and most of them did not know why they had come together” (Acts 19:32, NKJV).
50 // August 2018
Many of the people who opposed Paul did not even know why they were there. There was even confusion in the crowd. Why did this happen? They were being manipulated by powers and principalities to oppose Paul. God is not the author of confusion (I Cor. 14:33a). For another example, we can look at Peter. In Matthew 16:21, Jesus told the disciples that He was going to be arrested, killed, and raised back to life. Peter opposed this very thought and tried to convince him this would not happen. Jesus responded by saying, “Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men” (Matthew 16:23). Jesus recognized the power that spoke through Peter at that moment. In life, it is so tempting to take out our frustrations on other people because we can see them with our natural eyes. We must learn that our enemy is satan. He comes to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). He is the deceiver (Rev. 12:9). When people mistreat or oppose you, learn to look at the spiritual forces behind the attack. It will transform your frustration into prayer and help you love others.

Bible who changed the world for His name. In Hebrews 11:13-16 it says that any of them could have returned back to their old lives, however, they desired “a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city.” Hebrews 11:36-38 says that these people suffered and wandered around. In other words, they didn’t fit in. Because they committed their lives fully to God and realized that this world was not their home, they were not super worried about fitting in. Pleasing God was their only concern. Gò0dNews for Everyone
Till Death Do Us Part hen you said your wedding vows, you promised to be there in richer or poorer and until death do you part. So, if we all know that one day we will be separated by death, why haven’t we properly planned for that day? When your loved ones know exactly what you want and need as your life comes to an end, the easier it will be for them to continue living their lives with positive memories of you.
It could be old age, a disease, an extended illness, or even an accident, but we all will die. So, it’s not something to fear as much as it is a call to prepare those who will be left behind. End of life planning is more than picking out a casket or determining what songs will be played at our funeral. It’s meeting with a professional who can share what can be expected by all family members and implement a plan that provides the protection and peace of mind during a very difficult time. Did you know that families can make up to 130 decisions in the first 24 hours after death with most made while in great sorrow and grief? Here’s what I recommend to the clients in my practice:

1. Purchase a life insurance policy that will pay for your burial costs. Whether you have a serious health condition, take a few medications to manage a condition, or you are in great shape, there is an affordable whole life insurance plan for you. Unlike other insurances, the rates do not go up. They are locked in for the life of the policy. And not all life insurance companies are the same; you want one that pays their claims fast and offers more than just a paper and promise. I specifically work with one that offers FREE end of life assistance to families before and after life ends. 2. Understand your rights. You need to know what you are entitled to and protected from. For instance, the Federal Trade Commission enacted the Funeral Rule that protected families against unscrupulous funeral homes. Included in this legislation is a provision that all consumers can purchase their goods and services outside the funeral home and by law the funeral home must accept these goods and services or be fined by the state in which they reside. 3. Work with a specialist. Very few life insurance agents and financial planning professionals understand the end of life process. Working with a specialist who can identify, source, and personally help families prepare for the death of a loved one is critically important and highly recommended. One thing that we all know is that tomorrow is not guaranteed. Getting an end of life plan together with a specialist to help you every step of the way is the best way I know to keep those wedding vows alive today… until death do us part! About The Author
