Jesus let go of His will in the Garden while praying and took on a new spirit of willingness. Lee Studdards at our church said this by the Spirit: Jesus’ crucifixion was probably the easiest crucifixion ever done. Remember Jesus said, “No man takes my life, I lay it down!” (see John 10:18) He was loyal and committed to His assignment. Are you as grateful as I am for His faithfulness to the Father? More than Get You Through the Storm by Jonathon Wright

knew that God was with him through every storm. That is

thought they were going to die. At first, they felt Jesus did

their lack of faith. They did not do well on this test, but Jesus took care of it and kept working with them. He worked to help them fulfill their mission and become the people He was calling them to be.

James 1:2-8 Facing trials, temptations, and the storms of life can be unsettling. But James says we should count it all joy when this happens because it helps us to mature and complete our faith. Sometimes it is not easy to understand how hard times can be beneficial to our Christian faith. These are opportunities for God to teach us and increase our faith; however, sometimes it takes a while to recognize all God is doing. James knew this and was encouraging them to have unwavering faith in God. We do not want to let the wind and the waves of life's problems cause us to doubt and drive us away from God's blessings.

Peter And Paul Other apostles like Paul and Peter also had a high opinion of the value of experiencing difficulties. In Romans 5:3-5, Paul talks about rejoicing in tribulation or hard times. He did that so it would produce patience and experience with God. These experiences then produce hope and a sense of God’s love because of the Holy Spirit in our hearts. Paul knew the importance of praising God in the hard times. In Acts 16, he was in a Philippian jail praising God. The Lord sent an earthquake to get Paul out of jail. All of this helped Paul lead the jailer to Christ and establish

My Testimony Right before the COVID-19 pandemic, I encountered some health and personal issues. That was one of my lowest points, but God helped me through. He gave me a wonderful family and friends in our church who weathered that storm with me. He gave me a better appreciation for what I have in the Lord. That storm helped me become a better father and follower of Christ. I am a new man with renewed hope because of it. Also, I am so thankful the pandemic has moved away from us like a passing storm. I am so glad we serve a God who does more than get us through the storm. He meets us in the tribulations of hard times to bless and enrich our lives.

hen neighbors within Bradley County find themselves needing

assistance, you may hear that common phrase around town, “Go check out The Caring Place.” Launched in 2000, The Caring Place has operated with compassion for years at their 130 Wildwood Avenue location. With a wide variety of services from comprehensive case management services, housing and financial stability programs, a family food pantry, a free clothing closet, and even combatting childhood food insecurity, it won’t be long before you encounter a story of someone who found their way to The Caring Place. Take for example the story of a neighbor who recently stopped in to pick up food for their family. Burdened with multiple healthcare bills, this neighbor shared with staff, “All I had for dinner last night was crackers!”

20 // January 2024

Crackers – the garnish we toss into our soups had been the only food this neighbor had. Navigating the system as best as they could, they sacrificed their own nutrition to make ends meet. And that night, with an encouraged heart and a patient appetite, that same neighbor was shown compassion with a simple meal that was more than “just crackers.” In a desire to provide more opportunities like this for their neighbors, The Caring Place will relocate to a brand-new facility located at 2400 Bower Lane SE in early 2024 that will allow their compassionate efforts to create more stories of hope for our neighbors! “We are beyond grateful for God’s faithfulness and direction,”

said Corinne Freeman, Executive Director at The Caring Place. “We want to honor our neighbors in a space that is accessible and expands their opportunities.” Freeman has served as the Executive Director since 2018, navigating program expansions, the COVID pandemic, and most recently the purchase of the

Dr. Shawn Jones, Director of Clinics, serves Southeast Tennessee and North Georgia through two locations in Chattanooga and Cleveland, TN, along with his wife Carrie Doyle Jones. Dr. Jones, the international best-selling book author on Amazon of "Going, Going Gone! Neuropathy Can Be Healed Forever!" is recognized as an expert in neuropathy and the alleviation of joint pain.

What Sets Us Apart At Chattanooga Wellness Centers, we focus on You and assessing your body’s overall function to determine how to best correct the cause of your joint pains for long term relief. As your neighborhood medical clinic serving both Cleveland

sensory loss and proprioception have been lost. Not only does Dr. Jones evaluate sensory loss, he digs in much deeper by evaluating

the muscle strength of your entire muscle chain from the hips to the toes or from your shoulder to your hands. This process identifies, then “resets” muscle weaknesses using his own cold laser technique. This can take as little as 3 seconds to make almost any weak muscle strong again (vs. 12 weeks of physical therapy). This can stabilize your upper extremities and hips, knees, ankles, and feet supporting your body properly so you can move around again safely and pain free. Our superior equipment and proven techniques provide programs that get and sustain results. The equipment we provide our patients for home-care use is the same cheaper equipment many other doctors use for their office treatment. Dr. Jones explains, “My belief is I should do in the office what you cannot do at home and the patient do what we ask at home for great results!”

Knee Decompression Therapy Knee problems are increasing at an alarming rate and few patients over 50 years old have no knee pain. We now have knee decompression therapy available at both locations which creates a negative pressure inside your knee joint over a 10-minute treatment time. Decompression will pull synovial fluid back onto the knee joints lubricating the dry arthritic surfaces. It also stimulates “decompression proprioceptors” to fire stimulating the brain to take action to repair the joint. Your entire life you have compression proprioceptors constantly firing from weight on your knees during activities. During our treatment, the opposite decompression receptors fire stimulating healing signals from your brain. Knee decompression is a stand-alone service but we can combine it with our other techniques for the best possible outcome for living pain free!

Shockwave Therapy Shockwave therapy is the latest technology that delivers powerful sound waves (thousands of times stronger than traditional ultrasound) deep into soft tissues tearing down old adhesions, scar tissues, and fibrosis in painful joints. This incredible technology can be a stand-alone service making fast improvements in your areas of pain. The shockwave tears down adhesions and stimulates stem cells, fibrin, and other regenerative factors to assist your joints in rebuilding and improving function – PAIN FREE! K-Laser applied immediately after the tear down “super-charges” the healing process plus increases blood flow while decreasing swelling and pain. It is now incorporated into our neuropathy program as well saving patients money by healing them faster.

Nutrition Response Testing (NRT) Dr. Jones has been certified in Nutrition Response Testing for over 20 years helping people’s bodies heal with nutrition. Smoky Mountain Winter Comfort Soup

I

n the heart of the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee, January brings crisp, frosty air and a dusting of snow that transforms the landscape into a winter wonderland.

It's during this time that families and friends gather around cozy log fires to share stories and enjoy comforting meals. One such cherished recipe is the “Smoky Mountain Winter Comfort Soup.” This soup not only warms the body but also the soul, as it's passed down through generations along with stories of the region's history.

Ingredients For the Soup: • 1 lb of smoked ham hock • 1 cup of dried black-eyed peas • 1 cup of chopped carrots • 1 cup of diced celery • 1 cup of chopped onion • 3 cloves of garlic, minced • 6 cups of chicken broth • 1 bay leaf • 1 tsp of dried thyme • Salt and black pepper to taste • 2 cups of chopped collard greens (or substitute with kale or spinach)

For the Cornbread (optional, but highly recommended): • 1 cup of cornmeal • 1 cup of all-purpose flour • 1 tbsp of baking powder • 1/2 tsp of salt • 1 cup of milk or buttermilk • 1/4 cup of vegetable oil • 1 egg

32 // January 2024

Instructions Preparing the Soup: Start by rinsing the dried black-eyed peas and soaking them in water overnight. Drain and rinse them again before cooking. In a large pot, combine the smoked ham hock, black-eyed peas, chopped carrots, celery, onion, and minced garlic. Pour in the chicken broth, add the bay leaf and dried thyme. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to a simmer. Cover the pot and let it simmer for about 1 to 1.5 hours, or until the black-eyed peas are tender and the ham hock is falling off the bone. Remove the ham hock from the pot, shred the meat, and discard the bone and fat. Return the shredded ham to the pot, and season the soup with salt and black pepper to taste. Stir in the chopped collard greens and simmer for an additional 10-15 minutes until they are tender.

Making the Cornbread (optional): Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease a 9x9-inch baking pan. In a mixing bowl, combine the cornmeal, flour, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, vegetable oil, and egg. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Pour the cornbread batter into the greased pan and bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Gò0dNews for Health & Fitness Take These Steps For Mind, Body, and Wallet hese simple steps for improving all aspects of our lives have been in my possession for a long time. That is not to say that I have been perfect in doing them. Given a new year is launching, I would like to try them again but this time, if you are willing, I would like to invite you to do them with me. Proverbs 4:7 KJV, “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom; and with all thy getting get understanding.” 1. Take Stock – Write down three things you are grateful for each day. 2. Hit the (cold) showers – Exposing your body to lessthan-comfortable temperatures is an anti-aging tactic that also improves mood and boosts immunity. 3. Get Moving – Exercise improves your health, lifts your mood, and lengthens your life. 4. Floss every day – Scientists believe harmful mouth bacteria can enter the bloodstream, causing inflammation and other damage. 5. Get fresh air every day – Going outside, especially in green space, is an easy way to boost your well-being and mental state. 6. Take a breather – A simple way to feel happier, reduce stress, and raise your energy is to take short timeouts throughout the day to focus on your breath. 7. Beware of Actively Managed Investments – Lowfee index funds track the returns of an investment index, such as the S&P 500, and they cut your risk because you're investing in hundreds of stocks instead of just a few. 8. Know why you get up – Have a sense of purpose and you'll live longer. This positive mindset seems to be as beneficial as exercising regularly and not smoking. 9. Volunteer – Volunteering regularly (at least once a month) is associated with increased life satisfaction and lower rates of depression, and it may reduce early mortality rates by 22 percent. 10. Work on your balance – Try balancing on one leg and switching back and forth when you are brushing your teeth or standing in line, for example. 11. Start your day earlier – Wake up around 6 a.m. every day to read, exercise, and accomplish daily goals

without interruption. This is a way to ensure that you get things done that make you happy. 12. Explore a side gig – Find a way to bring in some extra cash. 13. Don't sit too long – Lower your risk by getting up every 30 minutes or so to take a walk or get a drink of water. 14. Find little ways to rev up your heart rate – Take the stairs, 60 seconds of vigorous stair-climbing will boost cardiovascular fitness. 15. Get enough rest – Lack of quality sleep zaps your energy, ups your stress level, hurts your memory, weakens your immune system, and makes you more anxious and depressed. 16. Eat plants – Eat real food! 17. Buy memories, not stuff – You'll derive more happiness from spending money on experiences rather than on physical objects. 18. Skip one meal a day – Eat less, cutting calories significantly protects against diseases. 19. Make money while you sleep – If you have some cash saved up, consider investing in assets that will bring in some passive income, such as rental property, ATM's in barber or beauty shops, etc. 20. Don’t give up - Be patient with yourself. These things take a lifetime to cultivate. The rewards make life better though. Keep trying!
