He Never Gives Up on Me!

Iam so thankful our loving God does not give up on us when we mess up. I have failed Him many times in a plethora of ways, but He continues to work in my life—molding me and making me into what He wants me to be.
God could have thrown up His hands and given up on me a long time ago, but as the song says, “He’s still working on me....to make me what I need to be. It took Him just a week to make the moon and the stars, the sun and the Earth and Jupiter and Mars. How loving and patient He must be. ‘Cause He’s still working on me.”
This song, written by Joel Hemphill, teaches the truth of Philippians 1:6: “And I am sure of this, that He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.”
What you see when you look at me is not the finished product. He isn’t finished with me yet. The song continues, “There really ought to be a sign upon my heart. Don’t judge me yet, there’s an unfinished part. But I’ll be better just according to His plan, fashioned by the Master’s loving hands.”
Images of Christ’s work being done in us are woven throughout scripture. “You also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 2:5, NIV).
The song goes: “In the mirror of His word, reflections that I see, make me wonder why He never gave up on me. But He loves me as I am and helps me when I pray. Remember He’s the potter, I’m the clay.”
Jesus is the Master Builder. He began a good work in me and He will continue to chisel, sand, paint, and clean up every mess I make. “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus, to do His good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10, NIV).
