Enough Is Enough P.U.S.H.
I
by Joel Towe
remember watching “Passion of the Christ” in the theater, back in the day, and one scene resonated with me, and still does even now. Let me set the scene: Jesus is in the Garden of Gethsemane praying intensely, and an evil-looking being is speaking to Him, trying to discourage His spirit, trying to undermine His mission. Jesus stays diligent in His exhausting plea to the Father, and then “Satan” changes into a serpent, slithering towards the Christ, hoping to get closer, louder, and more effective. Slowly, Jesus stands to His feet and in one powerful display, stomps on the head of the snake! Wow! In this scene, the film was taking “artistic liberty” regarding the scripture found in Genesis 3:15c “...He (the woman’s seed-Jesus) shall bruise your head, And you (serpent’s seed-Satan) shall bruise His heel.” What impacted me about this the most, I guess, was that I believe Jesus was tired of listening to the disruptive noise, and determined in that moment, that Enough is Enough! You see, we go through life, often times, just minding our own business, just trying to live a good life, but we still hear those disruptive and destructive noises. Those voices that tell us that we aren’t good enough, that no one really cares, that we can’t make a difference, or that our families are going to fall apart. These are lies that keep us from doing what we are called to do, from achieving those dreams that God gave us, and from being a difference-maker in people’s lives. After a while, we start to believe those lies and shift our focus from dreams to struggles, from opportunities to obstacles, from mission to misery. What was once an optimistic journey of life and hope, has slowly tried to morph into a pessimistic trek of despair and insignificance...Well, I am here to declare to you that ENOUGH is ENOUGH! No more darkness prevailing, but light overcoming! Isaiah 60:1, says to “Arise, shine; For your light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you.” Too many need the hope that you carry, and plenty are relying on you to
12 // October 2017
be the difference. Your wife needs you, your children need you, your community needs you. Jesus wants you to complete your purpose and mission! So today is the day that you “put your foot down”, crush your enemy’s head, dig in, put your shoulder down, and PUSH (Pray Until Something Happens)! When you feel tired, PUSH (Praise Until Something Happens) again! When you feel weak, allow the Lord to be your strength, and PUSH (Proclaim Until Something Happens) again! The Lord is trying to birth something in you, and your breakthrough is too close for you to quit! Stay on course, stay focused, and stay alert. Although your enemy may walk around “like a roaring lion” seeking whom he may devour, you serve the actual Lion of the tribe of Judah! Therefore, you have the authority and the power to declare, ENOUGH is ENOUGH! YES!
Joel Towe resides in Cleveland, Tennessee, with his wife, Wendy and three daughters, Emily, Hannah, and Jessi. Embracing the Call
“Who is the (parent) who fears the LORD? He will teach (the parents) in the way He should choose. (They) will dwell at ease, and (their) descendants will inherit the land. The counsel of the LORD is with those who fear Him, and He will make covenant to them.” —Psalm 25:14-15 by Yolanda Westfield
T
he Merriam-Webster dictionary defines the term embrace as, “to take in or include as a part, item, or element of a more inclusive whole.” Embracing the call to parenthood is not easy nor is it glamorous. At the moment of a child’s grand entrance into the outside world, we are given the task of helping them thrive and eventually living life to the fullest. While we strive to foster children who are productive, we must not neglect to nurture their love and commitment to the Father. As parents we must be mindful of what the Word of God says concerning our children. Because God knew that parenting would be a lifetime journey, He already mapped out a plan for us to follow. Any good steward would carefully follow an extensive plan to get the best for his or her investment. There are risks to consider and choices to make that oftentimes overwhelm us to exhaustion. But knowing that the original manufacturer has given us a manual helps greatly. Embracing the call to parenthood means we must be parents that worship. This is the greatest example we can set before our children. Worship also allows us to share the heart and mind of Christ. By spending time with God in the secret places of His habitation we are enamored with His perfect plan and we learn to hear the heart of the Father. As we receive instruction, we are able to give instruction. Psalm 16:7 says, “I will bless
20 // October 2017
the LORD, who has given me counsel; yes my heart instructs me in the night seasons.” Worship shifts our minds to be God-conscious and not circumstance-conscious. When we spend time with our Heavenly Father, we are able to look beyond the temporary and see the outcome of the expected end that God has promised us. Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us that God knows the plans for our children. Those plans are good, full of hope, and of a successful future. Worship allows us to see God with our hearts. True worship allows us to focus on who God truly is. If we are not careful, we will try to guide our children based on our successes and failures instead of from the heart of God. 1 Chronicles 16:29 commands us to “ascribe to the LORD the glory due His name and to worship the LORD in the splendor of His holiness.” Worship will impact the generations. Your example of worship leaves an inheritance of blessing and favor for your children. Psalm 145:4 reminds us that “One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts.” As we embrace the adventure of parenting, we can be assured that with God, our children will lead blessed lives. This brings glory to our Heavenly Father and joy to our lives. Yolanda Westfield is a mother to Kendra and Alfred. She also teaches Kindergarten and attends Dwelling Place Church International.
Challenge! OUR TEACHERS WILL SEE YOUR CHILD FOR WHO THEY ARE AS WELL AS WHAT THEY COULD BE.

Blissful Truth
“I
Ignorance is not bliss. by Jessica Oliver
gnorance is bliss.” We have all heard it a thousand times. However, I will take my stand that in this day and age, ignorance is not bliss. It would be insensitive and arrogant to disregard the issues of this world with a passive “meh, ignorance is bliss.” Is ignorance actually bliss on the subject of pro-life and pro-abortion? Shouldn’t we be more driven and encouraged to inform ourselves on the subject? This is important considering we live in a corrupted world that manipulates a truth to a fallacy. For example, some would say the fetus hasn’t developed in the first trimester, when really, towards the end of the first trimester, the baby has developed all five regions of the brain, its limbs, movement, neurons, microscopic cells, and sense of touch. It may be small but it still has all the same functions a 30+ year old would have. While this is true, the ignorance of the world would twist it and say “the fetus is not a fetus until it has moved 8 inches down the birth canal.” As Christians, we know the Bible does indeed mention the wrongful death of innocents. Psalm 9:1112 says, “Sing praises to the Lord, who sits enthroned in Zion! Tell among the peoples his deeds! For he who avenges blood is mindful of them; he does not forget the cry of the afflicted.” This is after Cain killed his brother, Abel. Abel’s blood cried out to God and God heard this cry of the innocent and mourned with him. When Cain killed Abel, God passed judgment on him. We see this play out in Genesis 4:11 “And now you are cursed from
22 // October 2017
the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand.” God judges hard because he loves hard. Each human is uniquely and diligently designed by him for the sole purpose of being created in the image of Christ himself. It is no wonder the Lord mourns and grieves for the murdered since we, as sons and daughters (inside or outside the womb), are his workmanship and the very things he cherishes most. If what Matthew 6:26 says is true about Jesus taking care of the birds of the air, and if he is indeed the creator and provider of all things good, then why should we believe otherwise? After all, Jesus did call the cosmos into existence and ordained the stars in the sky, yet he considers you the height of his creation. Alveda King puts it nicely when she says, “Abortion and racism are both symptoms of a fundamental error. The error is thinking that when someone stands in the way of our wants, we can justify getting that person out of our lives. Abortion and racism stem from the same poisonous root, selfishness.” So, maybe after all, ignorance isn’t bliss. Maybe ignorance is in fact selfish. We are supposed to watch out for our fellow men. There is more fruit in knowledge than there ever will be in ignorance. To move from a place of ignorance to truth only takes effort on our part to research, read, and dialogue, which in turn means knowing the truth can be bliss for others because we are better equipped to help them. Fighting the “Mirror”
I
A piece of glass showing your reflection through your eyes by Dominique Craigmiles
n health and fitness, we often set goals. We reach for things that usually aren’t easily obtained. Whether its weight loss, muscle gain, more mobility and flexibility, or improved overall wellness, these goals are only met through the level of consistency that we contribute in our everyday living. Consistency, whether in failure or success, has a way of pushing you to another level. Success, in whatever you strive for, often brings a level of comfort to your initial drive, yet once you taste or see success you often want to maintain it. Failure is an ultimate test of faith. When we fail we are immediately hit with a choice. Should I pick it up and try it again or should I begin to justify my failure with a ton of excuses? Justification is never the way to go because when you begin with excuses you will end with them as well. This is where the importance of the “mirror effect” plays heavily in our lives. What is a mirror? A mirror is a piece of glass that holds the most important image you will ever see, which is your reflection through your eyes. The mirror isn’t your enemy and neither is your reflection. Your enemy is the mindset you have about yourself or your image before you even step in front of the mirror. How you visualize yourself is what you will ultimately see. I, personally, fight the mirror as a

trainer because in this profession you hear and see what cliental look for in a trainer. The mirror doesn’t have the power to create or destroy your appreciation of your own personal journey, but what you envision on a physical level can alter your appreciation of what you are trying to achieve. I often tell my clients to embrace the journey. I stress this to them because the journey to achieve a goal is always greater than the goal itself. All the effort, sweat, and discipline that go into changing your body/mind are things that can propel you into another adventure in your life. That same fitness focus can be redirected into something else that you once believed was impossible to achieve. So don’t let the mirror dictate the truth within you. God told us that we are created in his image and that we are fearfully and wonderfully made. Establish the truth within your heart and mind because that will destroy any power the “mirror” thought it had over you.
I’m Dominique Craigmiles and I am a certified personal trainer at the Cleveland Family YMCA. I’ve been a trainer here for the better side of three years and it's one of the most rewarding jobs outside of helping my special needs individuals. I started a life changing journey into fitness in September of 2011. God gave me the tools to break down my greatest walls and when they fell, I stood tall and triumphant.

has been practicing audiology in Cleveland, TN since 2000. Her passion for audiology was sparked by a close family member that was born with a severe hearing loss and received hearing aids at the age of 3. She is the daughter of D.L. and Brenda Carter and the sister of Dustin Carter. She resides in Cleveland with her husband Donny and her two children, Braden (11) and Kara (9). Ahlberg Audiology opened in 2014 and has since expanded to include another service provider, Hannah Kerly (M.A. in audiology and currently working on her doctorate), office manager, Vicki Adkins, and front office coordinator, Rita Tatum. They are proud to have received the Reader’s Choice Award for “Best Hearing Aid Center in Bradley County” in 2016 and 2017. The office is located at 2401 North Ocoee Street in Cleveland, Tennessee directly behind Medical Center Pharmacy where her husband Donny has been a pharmacist since 2002. Dr. Tiffany Ahlberg received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in audiology from the University of Tennessee (Knoxville) and her doctorate in audiology from the University of Florida. She completed her externship at the Shea Ear Clinic in Memphis, TN. She has been a member of the American Speech Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) and the American Academy of Audiology (AAA) since 1999. The office participates with most major health insurances. Although the majority of insurances will cover hearing testing, many do not cover hearing aids or hearing aid related services. There has been a trend in recent years where some do provide partial or full coverage for hearing aids. Their office can check on this for individuals so that patients know what to expect prior to their visit. Dr. Ahlberg states that they carry most major brands of hearing instruments and specialize in hearing aid evaluations and fittings. Although she states that it would be easier to concentrate on one or two brands, she feels the ability to offer many different manufacturers sets her office apart from others and allows her to make the best possible choice for each individual and their unique needs. Every hearing aid company has a niche and this becomes

This procedure ensures that the hearing aid is doing what it is supposed to be doing. There are hearing devices available for everyone’s needs. Some want Bluetooth capabilities and some want rechargeable devices. Some want small invisible in the ear devices and some want to keep the ear canal open with the unit behind the ear. Shelter by Mande Chapman
t’s easy to take a look around and be overcome with anxiety, fear, and confusion. Our world seems to be in a downward spiral. We hear of wars, murder, poverty, kidnapping, abuse, human trafficking, devastation, and death. Many times it is hard to keep a Godly perspective of what is really happening around us. Without a doubt, these horrible events are breaking the heart of God. Often times, the enemy will use scare tactics to torture God’s people. Yes, the world is full of evil. Yes, people are making choices that dishonor God and mock the belief and heart of His people. It is incredibly sad to turn on the news and hear of the evil and wrong that seems to be in every headline no matter where you live. There has always been evil. It’s the reason Christ Jesus came and offered Himself as a sacrifice for the sins of the world. It is because of God sending His Son that we can see a different perspective than what the world portrays. Psalm 91:4 says, “He will shield you with His wings. He will shelter you with His feathers. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.” What an amazing promise of His protection and shelter in our lives. We do not have to live in fear. God promises His protection in the midst of danger. He doesn’t promise a world free from danger but He does promise His help whenever we face danger. If we truly believe God’s Word and His promises, the enemy and his scare tactics cannot back us into

a corner. We can live with peace in our hearts even when the world around us is tumultuous and seems unrestrained. We have a hope that needs to be shared. This is a promise of protection, and the way it is written in the Psalms is with such a gentle and delicate voice; it speaks of God’s wings spreading over us, His feathers becoming shelter, and His promises becoming our armor. Sometimes, we forget how powerful our God really is. Yes, the world seems completely turbulent but how awesome to think that something as delicate as a feather is stronger with our God than what the world can ever throw at us. Think about what God’s Word is saying. A beautiful, delicate feather that can be carried by the wind is all that the Father needs to be able to shield us and protect us from all the enemy would devise to scare us and devour us with. God’s promises are our armor and our protection. What an incredible picture of the power of God. Are you resting in His shelter- even in the midst of the world where you live? We need to live victoriously, no matter what the news is sharing. We should be the leading voice in a hurting world. We have a hope and a promise that is unmatched by any religious viewpoint or military strategy. We have a shelter in the Almighty God!
