Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” What does being brave mean to you? How can you use bravery for the kingdom? According to Webster dictionary, brave means having or showing mental or moral strength to face danger, fear, or difficulty, having or showing courage. To me, being brave means conquering a difficult situation without being defeated. Maybe your parents are divorced or getting divorced. You feel like it’s your fault and you blame yourself. It is never your fault. Being brave during this hard time is very important. Hold you head up high and do not allow the enemy to tell you it’s your fault. How can you turn this hard time into bravery for the kingdom? You can pray and ask God to help you handle the feeling of it being your fault. Instead of being sad all the time about your mommy and daddy, ask Jesus to comfort you and make you happy because both of your parents love you no matter if they are together or not. This is very hard for someone to go through at a young

age. I understand; I went through it. I did not know my biological father that well. The only time I saw him was when I went to visit him every other weekend because I had too. Was it fun? No! I knew that I had to talk to my mom about not going anymore. I was old enough to say no, and that I didn’t want to go. I stopped going to his house and throughout the years I didn’t talk to him. I received a text message on my seventeenth birthday that said I was making the worst decision by not allowing him to be in my life. I knew at that point that I had to be brave and tell him that I did not want him to contact me anymore. By this time my mom was married to a man who I now call my dad. It’s okay to say no to people that disrespect you. You deserve someone that will take you in and love you like our Heavenly Father loves you. My parents will be married nineteen years this coming February. I thought I would never have an earthly father, but God sent my daddy into my life. He has filled a void that I thought would never be whole again. To say the least, I am a daddy’s girl and always will be.You can have a relationship like this with your Heavenly Father because He loves you unconditionally. Be brave. You can do it.

Stay Where You Can See Me y pastor recently preached about the storm on Lake Gennesaret in which Jesus walks on the water, then Peter walks out to Jesus, but turns his attention to the storm and begins to sink. One of the lessons from that sermon was: If it gets so dark that you can’t see, remember, just because you can’t see Jesus, doesn’t mean He can’t see you. As long as He can see you, you are going to make it. This is absolutely true, but it got me to thinking about when we would go on an outing with our boys when they were little. When they were infants and toddlers, they were always in a stroller or a shopping cart. When they were children, they walked with us, but had to hold our hands. When they got a little older, they didn’t have to hold our hands, but they still had to stay right beside us. Eventually our boys were old enough to be allowed to put a little distance between us and them in a store, but I always told them, “Stay where you can see me.” While the traditional advice is, “Stay where I can see you,” I chose

the inverse because, in my way of thinking, if they could see me, I most likely could see them too, which ensured their safety. One difference in parents and Jesus is that He can always see where we are. Scripture even refers to God as El Roi—the God who sees. David praised God in Psalm 139 for knowing where he was at all times: “You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I’m far away. You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do. You know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord. You go before me and follow me.” As parents we try our very best to keep our eyes on our children at all times, but if they are to learn any independence, we have to let them out of our sight from time-to-time. Unlike human parents, God never loses sight of us, even when we stray from Him. One similarity between children and followers of Christ is that when we get comfortable with our situation, we can get distracted by things around us, like Peter’s storm or a shiny toy, and take our eyes off the one who’s looking out for us. Like a lost child, this can lead us into situations we are not equipped to handle. Storms and distractions are going to come in life, but if we commit ourselves to “Keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith” (Heb. 12:2a, NLT), we will be able to “strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. Treading Deep Waters saiah 43:2 states “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.”

Over the past year or more I have been treading deep waters, in the sense of drowning in life’s many obstacles. If I told you the details you probably wouldn’t even believe me! I found myself face down on my cold hardwood floor crying out to God for forgiveness, grace, and mercy. There were so many things that I could never fix and I had to completely give it to the Lord and trust him for a miracle. For years I had been dealing with a personal temptation and never truly found deliverance until that night, the night Jesus took it all

away. After about an hour of pouring my heart out to God, I came up from that floor with a completely new mindset, new eyes, new thinking, and a new heart. I just had to trust him for that miracle, and a few days later he answered my prayers and performed what I thought to be impossible. Sometimes we think we are hiding our deepest and darkest secrets from people, from God, but we aren’t; he knows all of them. Around that same time period God gave me Isaiah 43:2 to stand on. It seems that every time I am facing what I think is impossible or simply having a hard time, he always lays a scripture on my heart for that time and season in my life. I keep it fresh on my mind and heart by repeating it daily to myself to remind me that he’s always there to rescue me. Many times in life we try to completely control our circumstances and situations all while believing we can fix it. Our current world is a “mind over matter,” “quick fix,” “self-help,” kind of society. So where does that leave any room for our miraculous God to work the impossible in our lives. Giving it all to God in faith means giving up our complete control and letting someone else have the power over our lives, and that’s not always easy. Hebrews 11 states, “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, and the evidence of things not yet seen.” I’ve certainly hoped for many things in my life, some being my personal dreams and others are promises God has given me. Some of these have already happened and I’m still waiting on others. When God gives you a promise and a calling, he will deliver on that, but it’s up to us to seek him, walk with him daily, and have that childlike faith. The next time you’re treading life’s raging waters, remember he will be with you; just have faith!

aith is very important when it comes to our walk with Christ. It's so important that the Bible says, in Hebrews 11:6 that without faith it is impossible to please God. So what is faith? Hebrews 11:1 says that faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of the things not seen. The fact that we serve a God that we've never seen means that we have faith. I have had the chance to serve in youth ministry for quite some time now and I find that very often young

people tend to put their faith in other things or people besides Jesus. Perhaps it's their favorite actor, singer, sports star, or maybe even something, like a material thing. That seems to be the world's job today to get young people sucked into something, to take their minds off the most important thing, which is their relationship with Christ. There is no doubt that being a teenager in today's world can be so hard. I've talked to so many young people who tell me how difficult it is to be a Christian sometimes. Maybe it's because their friends don't believe the same way they do, or maybe something happens in their lives that they

simply can't understand, the loss of a loved one or a friend or maybe their parents getting divorced. They will ask themselves the question that we've all asked at one point or another in our lives: why? Why did God let this happen? Why would God allow this person to pass away? My friends and I have been there so many times in my life. My parents divorced when I was 8 years old. I had a very close friend who passed away in a car accident who loved the Lord so much and so many other things that I can't even fit in this article. Nowhere in the Bible did it say it would always be easy. I mean look at Job. He was a man who loved the Lord and then one day he loses everything. His family, all of his possessions, gone in the blink of an eye. It got so bad for Job that his wife told him he should just curse God and die but Job never lost his faith in God and in the end got so much more back. I like to tell people that faith is like a muscle. You go work out your physical muscles in the gym to stay strong and in shape because if you don't you become weak. That faith muscle has to be worked out, too. That comes when we go through things like tests or trials. It works out our faith in Christ to keep it strong. My main goal with this article is to encourage you today if you're going through something. I know the new school year is in full swing and maybe you're already facing challenges that are testing you. Please don't lose the faith. Remember that Jesus sticks closer than a brother and he will never leave your or forsake you. You may not understand why right now, and you might not ever, but remember what Jesus said that faith the size of a mustard seed can move a mountain. Just so you know the mustard seed is the smallest seed on planet earth. That's all you need! God bless you as you continue on this awesome journey in your relationship with God! Keep the faith!

It was in the second year that Jonathan realized business management didn’t come naturally to him. Just as his employees went through training, he needed to train as well. He spent two years with a consulting company that specializes in the automotive field and took what he learned back to his company. His business has greatly improved since learning these new skills. This is another way the company owners lead with integrity. They don’t ask their employees to do things they aren’t willing to do. If their employees go through training, so do the owners. One of the staff members said, “Jonathan and Heather go above and beyond for customers, friends, family, and even strangers, time and time again. And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the LORD being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city. And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, ‘Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed’. And Lot said unto them, ‘Oh, not so, my Lord: Behold now, thy servant hath found grace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast shewed unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die: Behold now, this city is near to flee unto, and it is a little one: Oh, let me escape thither, (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live’. And he said unto him, ‘See, I have accepted thee concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow this city, for that which thou hast spoken. Haste thee, escape thither; for I cannot do anything till thou be come thither’. Therefore, the name of the city was called Zoar.” (Genesis 19:15-22) In the preceding text, we read of the deliverance of Lot and his family. We also learn their escape from Sodom was only in part. The city to which they fled was not

the one the Lord had intended for them to go. Instead of choosing the long and mountainous journey, Lot desired the easy path. The town of Zoar was nearby and originally slated for destruction by God (verse 21); nevertheless, the angels granted Lot’s request to relocate there instead. When Lot and his two daughters arrived, it was without his wife, who had been turned to a pillar of salt while they were fleeing. They were also forced to dwell in a cave, isolated from the rest of the community, a place as wicked and vile as the one they had left. Moreover, his daughters died husbandless because of where they had chosen to settle. The story of Lot certainly does not end on a positive note. God prepared a good place for Lot and his entire family in the mountains. Sadly, none of them would ever know anything about it. Perhaps things might have turned out differently had he followed God and been willing to follow him up the rough side of the mountain. Sometimes we forget that the greatest destinations in life require the longest and most difficult journeys to complete, and the path of least resistance is often the one that leads to our destruction.

just don’t respect him anymore,” I announced to my mother-in-law, Jody, over the phone one day. After 5 years of marriage, that beautiful honeymoon glow had finally faded. I loved him, of course, but somewhere along the way I had begun to despise him in my heart without even realizing it until, one day I took a long look at him and thought – I do NOT respect this man! Instead of reacting harshly, Jody calmly asked me to name something positive about my husband. I tried, but all that came to mind was the many reasons I no longer respected him: he won’t…. he never wants to….he always says…..he should just….that list was easy!

She wouldn’t let me off the hook, though. “What about the fact he goes to work every day, to take care of his family?” It’s show up for duty or go to jail for being AWOL. Wisely, I kept that thought to myself. “And he loves spending time with his babies,” she prompted me. “Sure, I’ll give him that,” I agreed, disingenuous. “Then, every time you start having thoughts of why you don’t respect him, remind yourself of the good he does do,” she instructed. “Our adversary is an accuser

and he’s very good at his job and, if we allow him to, he jumps on every little hurt and plays it on repeat in our mind. We have to take those thoughts captive, cast them away, and replace them.” The Apostle Paul wrote in Philippians 4:8, “Finally, brothers… whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things” (ESV). “Look for reasons to praise him. When you see him doing something good, think on that. Soon, you’ll see a change in your attitude toward your husband,” she promised. It sounded like a bunch of hokey to me, but I agreed to give it a shot. I began to really observe my husband and there were things he did for us that I had never noticed. If I had a bad day with the kids, he would tell me to wait and let him do their bedtime routine so I could have some alone time. Or, on his weekends, he’d cook dinner so I didn’t have to. He played with the kids for hours, rubbed my tired feet at night. My new list began to grow. In just two weeks, I had a new perspective on this husband of mine. I now had a list of commendable, praise-worthy things that been there all along, I’d just been too busy staring at the few things I didn’t like to notice them! I’ve come back to this exercise many times since then, for him and with other relationships I’ve struggled with for one reason or another. She taught me a very valuable lesson that day – what you water grows; what you starve dies. Water the positive in your spouse and watch it change your own attitude!

Every Season Has a Purpose

all is my favorite season. No other season compares to the beauty that fall displays. The other seasons have their advantages. The snow of winter always reminds me of God’s ability to make even the ugliest parts of us look beautiful. Spring brings fresh, bright colors that always inspire me to get outside and enjoy nature more. Summer? Well, it’s hot. But after summer comes fall. Every season has a purpose, even the ones we don’t like. Fall stands out to me in particular because of all the seasons, this one shows a side of nature that usually stays

So you may wonder, why do leaves change color in the fall? I mean, it’s so beautiful, why can’t they stay that way all year long? I won’t get into all the scientific reasoning as to why this happens (just Google it), but some of those colors were there all along. The green was just hiding what was already there. Other colors come about due to changes in the leaf as the green dissipates. All of these transformations come about because the tree is preparing for the coming winter. It’s kind of like how we put away our summer clothes and pull out the winter wardrobe about the same time. Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall. It happens every year, everywhere around us.

hidden. I grew up in the deep south. When I grew up, fall meant raking leaves and gathering pecans in the fields around our house. The brown leaves covered the ground. Once collected, they made a great play area as we took turns jumping in the pile (which consequently had to be raked up again). I thought I knew what fall looked like but boy was I wrong. I had seen the picturesque scenes of all the beautiful colors of leaves on the trees but other than browns and the occasional yellow, not much to see here. It wasn’t until I moved further north (yet still in the south at the time) that I saw fall’s true colors. In fact, I was blessed to live near the Blue Ridge Parkway at the time which offered stunning views and mountains full of colorful leaves. It was a time of the year that I eagerly awaited, and it became a family event. Every fall, when the leaves were at their peak, we would take a drive along the parkway and enjoy the wonders of fall.

The seasons of our lives look very similar. Some are more enjoyable than others. Sometimes we’re in a season that looks a lot like spring. We find lots of growth around us and everything is outwardly going great. Other times we find ourselves in a winter season, shrouded with darker times and less growth. Then there are the fall seasons in our lives. At first glance, it may seem to some that this season is rife with decay and rot. As the color fades from the leaves of our lives it may appear to others that we aren’t growing as we should. But the fact of the matter is far from this. Instead of decay and decline, God is bringing out the beauty in us that has been there all along. There it was just below the surface the whole time, never to be seen as it was overshadowed by other things. Maybe it’s a career we’ve been pursuing. Maybe it’s a personal goal that’s kept our focus. Perhaps it was any number of reasons that covered up the true beauty that was within you. A beauty that can only be seen if the other things are drained away. Just as the trees have to lose their green, we have to be drained in order for God to display the beauty that He has been forging within us. Every season has its purpose. It’s our job to learn to find that purpose, whatever season we find ourselves in.

hen you look back throughout history, one of the greatest shortfalls for us guys is an overall lack of communication. This glooming failure has been with us since the very beginning, all the way back to Adam and Eve. It has been the cause of arguments, led to problems in the workplace, even led to wars. It is something that we must ultimately and collectively improve upon if we are to effectively spread the gospel and be Godly examples to others in a lost world. James 1:19 says, “Know this my beloved brothers: Let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger.” Imagine to yourself if every person in every part of the world lived by this one verse! In reality, we do the opposite. We are slow to hear (if we hear at all), quick to speak, and anger quickly and easily. We are so anxious to make our point known in any situation that we, in many cases, have our reply on the tip of our tongue before the other person has finished talking. This leads to frustration, confusion, and usually ends in one or both parties getting angry. We are all encouraged to want to and are taught to express ourselves which is fine, but when it’s done at the expense of others we become a worldly distraction instead of a light in the darkness. We must listen! May it be our wives, our friends, our boss, or even our enemies, we must listen to what they have to say before we even think about replying.

Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others” (Philippians 2:3-4). When attempting to communicate it is essential to put others before ourselves. God wants us to choose our words wisely, to “rejoice always” as said in 1 Thessalonians 5. To effectively get a point across it must be delivered in the right way. Even if it is a tough subject, it must be delivered with love. Proverbs 15:1-2 states, “A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouths of fools pour out folly.” Much can be accomplished simply by listening to others. Even more can be done by answering those in the proper way, softly, wisely, and with love. When you think about it, the perfect example of how to communicate is Jesus Christ. How many times did He reply in anger, even when people were trying to trick Him or back Him into a corner? There was always a reply with love, wisdom, and patience. Our Savior is who we need to be looking to as we attempt to become better communicators to a lost world. He is who we should look to in all situations.

My goal is to continue the great success of the past, —and then to take Cleveland, Tennessee, on to even greater heights—building upon the relationships, the friendships and the family connections that I have been fortunate to build in my twelve years of service. I am thankful that during the summer, my own testimony of how much Cleveland has given to our family was openly shared in public forums. You see, when I came to Cleveland as a young teenager, I was not financially able to afford Lee College, as it was known back then. A local leader took a chance on me, and gave me the opportunity to attend Lee, which changed the trajectory of my life and the lives of my entire family. I will be forever grateful for that opportunity. My prayer is to make Cleveland, not only the City with Spirit, but also a city of opportunity.

Speaking of that life-changing opportunity, God’s Word is clear in instructing us that, “to whom much is given, much will be required.” My family joins me in the knowledge and responsibility that we have much service to give back to our hometown Cleveland, TN. ho am I...that I should be…” (1 Samuel 18:18). Each of us has upon our lives a unique “calling” into the purposes of God. Not too many of us are given a public mantle to do deeds on some great stage. But to each the great planner has so designed a portion to fit well the doer. Grace flows for that portion - which may be seen by us as insignificant. But each “little” role has its significance in God’s grand design. As with a clockwork, if but one tiny gear lacks one tiny tooth, the mechanism will not function. All the parts are important! “The whole works because of its parts, when each part works as a whole” (PLB). “If all were an eye, where would be the sense of hearing...?” (1 Corinthians 12:17). Delight to fulfill well the unique role God has given you in His masterful plan. And do it with all your might. Then, look to Him to give you the sense of significance for which you may long. “And I, if I am lifted up...I will draw all men unto myself” (John 12:32, NASB).

Is Forgiveness Obtainable? (Part 1)

nwise investments deplete our chances of monetary gain in our lives. So how much does unforgiveness cost the individual who hasn't found within themselves the ability to forgive others or themselves? Unwise investments are only monetary loses in the financial arena. It does not have to affect your life forever though it may seem the circumstance will persist forever. Unforgiveness does not only cost

you in this life, but could eventually cost your eternal life separated from God's presence, everlasting. The one who harbors unforgiveness in their heart usually pays the highest expense in this life and the one there after. Unforgiveness does affect those around us, but absolutely not nearly the impact it has upon the individual "losing it", resulting from unforgiveness. At times in our lives, forgiveness seems almost impossible to obtain or to develop the strength or courage to forgive someone. Please note that forgiving yourself or someone who has hurt or offended you is a process. Sometimes the process moves along faster than it does in other circumstances. The foundational principle is the fact that you have made a decision to forgive. Step number one has now been accomplished.

After you have made the decision to forgive, stay committed to that decision and allow the process to be completed. Yes, it will certainly be tempting to return to the old feelings and memories and harbor them in your heart once again, but the decision is still yours to forgive. That will never change throughout the whole process. Is there a specific reason why Jesus said to those around him as he walked on this earth, forgive seventy times seventy? Oh what a painful process it is to forgive but, when the process is completed, the healing is truly worthy of your effort. Harbored unforgiveness usually develops into bitterness, anger, and rage. This pathway in an individualâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s life is sure to come to an unwelcomed bitter end. "Did I bargain for this" is our question? Make no mistake about it that if he, the father of all deceivers, can trick you into walking in this pathway for a bit too long, he'll do just that. Is forgiveness obtainable? It's great to know the answer is yes. Through Christ we have the ability to do the things that change the course of our lives and the affect our lives have on others around us. Forgiveness has been obtained when the emotions connected to the issue being forgiven have been calmed and desensitized to the point of your peace is no longer disturbed upon the remembrance of the offense. Patience in allowing time to pass and the touching sweetness of God's tender love and mercy is a very important key to your success in truly forgiving someone who has offended or treated you wrong.
