The GOODS Celebrity Fashion Column By Kimberly Kimmel

Winter is upon us. That means, cold, crisp weather, the joy of the holiday season in the air, and fun new make up and clothes to buy to look your celebratory best. It’s a special time of year so enjoy every fashionable moment!

Who’s Out and About Drake, the Canadian rapper who showed support for New York Fashion Week, will have his tour outfitted by Calvin Klein. Included will be three capsule collections for Drake. Hopefully breakups aren’t a trend. Thom Evans, former Scotland International rugby star broke it off with Jessica Lowndes, a Canadian actress. The split is reportedly mutual. Evans, presently modeling, has appeared in D.Hedral’s spring/summer 2013 underwear campaign.

What’s In, What’s Out When you don darker colors this winter, make sure to break up the pattern with bits of white. A white collar or cuffs playing peek-aboo under a heavy winter coat or pull-over sweater will make a fun statement. For something different, try cashmere with black tights, a coat with big shoulders, or striped, flared pants. It looks like the 60s style may be making another sneak attack with flared pants, fringe and earth tones being hot again.

Upcoming Trends We are jumping ahead to the 2014 season to give you a glimpse into the future. For shoes the new thing will be the sports sandal. They’ll come in bright colors and you’ll even be able to get them covered in your favorite gems. As far as fabrics go, chiffon will be in. Float in style as this look will be most popular in skirts and dresses. It can be worn in a layered look under sweaters and tunics. Stay away from too many calories during the holidays as crop tops will be back in style. Bare your belly proudly once again this coming spring. Dressy pants will also be popular. Think dresses layered over trousers. Earth tones will be all the rage. Colors such as Khaki to nude to moss green will be worn. The groovy look will be fringe. Wear it on the bottom of shirts, blouses, skirts and dresses. Get your hippie on! Photo from www.e-befashion.blogspot.com

Cool Places to Shop Nordstrom has been around forever. Now we know why. It is still one of the best places to shop for everything you need from shoes, to make-up and handbags to the lastest fashions. They are one of the only stores where the employees actually really help you make great fashionable selections. They do all they can to make sure you find exactly what you are looking for all with an air of actual knowledge about the latest trends and of what they have in stock. Nordstrom is also to be commended as they are really into contributing to their communities, reducing their environmental impact and they promise to provide support for their employees. They really take pride in being socially responsible and it shows. Nordstroms has always been a class act.

Our Fave Product of the Month The smoky eye is back and makes a bold statement. What’s GOODS in Pop Culture? By Mariah Honey

Kim Kardashian + Kanye West Officially Engaged Kayne West pulled off one of the biggest surprise proposals, by renting out an entire baseball stadium to ask Kim Kardashian to become his wife. Sources close to the couple say that Kanye pulled out all the stops with the surprise proposal which included flying Kim out to San Francisco, blind-folding her and then travelling to AT&T Park to complete the task. Kanye even had an entire orchestra on-site playing “Young and Beautiful” by Lana Del Rey, which is one of Kim’s favorite songs. Kanye then got down on one knee in the middle of the field and popped the question while presenting Kim with a 15 carat diamond ring. Of course Kim said yes and then the couple’s friends and family came pouring out of the dugouts to help the couple celebrate their new engagement.

Ryan Murphy Confirms Last Season of ‘Glee’ It’s curtain call for Fox’s hit show Glee. The show’s creator, Ryan Murphy, has stated that in light of Cory Monteith‘s tragic death, the show will end after season six. He revealed: “The final year of the show, which will be next year, was designed around Rachel and Cory/Finn’s story. I always knew that, I always knew how it would end. I knew what the last shot was – he was in it. I knew what the last line was – she said it to him. So when a tragedy like that happens you sort of have to pause and figure out what you want to do, so we’re figuring that out now.”

Charming Prince George Twenty-two family members and friends of Prince William and Duchess Catherine gathered at the Chapel Royal at St. James’ Palace for Prince George’s christening, and in perhaps the least surprising turn of events ever, the ceremony was extremely well covered by members of the press and photographers hired by the Royal Family themselves. The traditional ceremony lasted about thirty-five minutes. Both Pippa Middleton and Prince Harry recited passages from the Bible during the ceremony, and all seven of Prince George’s new godparents were in attendance.

Britney Spears’ New Album Britney Spears finally released the elusive title for her new album, and it probably won’t shock you as much as you might expect. Album number 8 will roll with the title Britney Jean. With a single like “Work Bitch” under her belt, you would think the title of the new endeavor would be empowering or at least a little bit slinky. Instead, it’s more endearing than anything else. Spears has been using the word “personal” to describe her album for months, and she has let it it be known that is where the title comes in, as well. She says, “it’s called ‘Britney Jean’ and it’s a personal album and all of [her] family always call [her] Britney Jean, it’s like a term of endearment.

The New Christian Grey Jamie Dornan has been chosen as the new Christian Grey for Universal and Focus’ adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey. Negotiations with the actor now are underway. Charlie Hunnam infamously backed out of the project, setting off a feverish pursuit to find his replacement. Born in Northern Ireland, Dornan is the official replacement for the role of kinky billionaire Grey. He is the star of the U.K. series The Fall and might be best-known to U.S. audiences for playing the Huntsman in ABC’s Once Upon a Time. He’s a former Calvin Klein model and dated actress Keira Knightley for two years. www.thegoodsmag.co

Fashion & Beauty Spotlight

Fall Makeup Must Haves!

By Angela Marie Soberanes

It’s

time to gather the leaves from the front lawn and take out the decorations and candles as the autumn equinox marks the beginning of Fall. The time to pack up the crop tops and shorts and take out the boots and warn sweaters and stock up on Fall makeup must-haves! Summer neons are fading away as reds, oranges and plums are harvested in this seasons collections. From eyeshadows, to rouge, to lipsticks, makeup lines have entered into a purple haze. The G.O.O.D.S. has the top makeup essentials for you to dominate this change of season.

As the weather outside shifts to a more crisp breeze, it’s necessary to have a go-to skin routine to protect against harsh contaminants from the environment. Clinique’s three step skin care system is the nicest thing you can do for your face everyday. The liquid facial soap cleanses and washes off dirt leaving skin clean and fresh. Next step is to exfoliate using the Clarifying Lotion removing excess oils and impurities. Don’t forget to moisturize with Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion Plus before putting on your foundation. Not only will this routine help purify your skin, your makeup will go on smoothly and won’t look caked up throughout the day. Show off your natural beauty and begin your daily makeup routine with a great skin care routine.

Foundation is the groundwork for your makeup routine and choosing the right one will set the basis for the rest of your day. So don’t be afraid to spend a little on the perfect shade and formula for your skin. Chanel Vitalimiere Moisture Rich Radiance Fluid makeup is the best selling Chanel foundation for a reason. It’s, “The ultimate solution for tired skin, it revitalizes the complexion.” This formula with marine extracts will boost cell energy and enhances radiance.

When choosing the right makeup, it’s important to find products formulated without para-gons, phthalates, gluten or mineral oils. To erase fine lines, Benefit Fake Up Concealer is ultra-hydrating with Vitamin E and appleseed extract. This crease control concealer diffuses laugh lines and hides dark circles.

After your base is established, a highlighter is a strong asset in a makeup routine and will make all the difference. Either a powder or liquid, a good highlighter will give you a youthful glow and accentuate your features. Smashbox Artificial Light Luminizing Lotion is a top pick. Makeup artists recommend applying small amounts under the eyes, on the brow bone and on the apples of the cheeks after your blush. Dabbing a bit above the center of your upper lip is a good tip for creating a full pout effect.

To refine the eyeshadow play, a precision liquid eyeliner will perfect any look. Try Lancome Artliner 24hr bold color eyeliner with a vinyl finish. This liquid pen has a foam tip applicator making it easy to design your own look, from thin to bold, this liquid won’t budge or smudge. A helpful hint is to start at the center of the lash and move outward, staying as close as possible to the lash line. Also available in fall colors like emerald, Amethyst, gold and copper.

This season, natural rosy cheeks have complimented the stronger bold eyeshadow and lip colors. Chanel has a subtle In Love rouge color that is classy and also buildable if you want more color. If your eye makeup is subtle, applying a darker blush like Plum Attraction by Chanel will draw attention to your cheekbones and give your face a structured look. By applying close to the temples or high on the cheekbone, your face will look slimmer and get an instant face lift for a more youthful appearance.

Another staple in the procedure is a great mascara to lengthen, volumize and create an alluring eye this season. Mac In Extreme Dimension is a great tool to create tons of volume and the brush itself helps to create an intense gaze, in black and 3D black! The lightweight formula curls and conditions and will not flake out or clump as you build upon the first layer. www.thegoodsmag.co

It is a proven fact that thicker eyebrows make you look younger, so try Benefit Cosmetics Brow Volumizing gel to define your brows. Benefit is a leader in brows and offer a range of brow bars in their stores around the country for help with perfecting your eyebrows.

The fun part of your makeup routine is the eyeshadow! This season is all about rich gold tones, shiny browns, nudes and dark blues. Grayish greens, emeralds, violets and plums are all perfect autumn hues. Give your eyes a multi-dimensional glow with L’oreal Color Tattoo in luxe gold all over your lid then apply a slightly warmer shade along the crease and toward the outside of the lid. Try an olive or burgundy, the contrast will look fab for Fall. Nars has two limited edition pallets in Ride Up to the Moon with browns and green as well as a violet shadow pallet in Fairy’s Kiss. Fall into the purple haze of the season with a smoky indigo cat eye as seen everywhere along the runways.

Kiss goodbye to Summer with a bold burgundy or crimson red. Mac is famous for their Diva Lipstick that has a matte finish but also has introduced Rihanna’s, “Daring yet classically gorgeous shades.” Riri Hearts Mac Fall Collection offers just the right shades for all your needs and have been very popular on the runway and on the streets. If you’re feeling extra bold, try Mac lipstick in Cyber, a blackish purple, or Utterly Tart for a taste of merlot on your lips.

Keep in mind these makeup must haves for your cosmetics bag and don’t be shy to try the bold plums, dark reds and golds resembling the fluttering leaves of autumn dawn the runways and look fatal as the days get shorter and the nights longer. ❉

Keeping up with Miley

By Kimberly Kimmel

Miley Cyrus has gone from Disney’s Darling to Wild Child all within a short period of time. Loudly and quite proudly it seems, she has done some crazy things to get as much of our attention as possible. Once the precocious child star who could sing, dance and act that Disney puppeteered, she has broken free from Mickey’s grasp and in a dramatic 180, grasped a wrecking ball and swung naked to get her point across. We hear you, we get it. You aren’t a kid anymore. And who can forget her recent VHI performance that showed us she could writhe, shake her bootie and stick

her tongue out with the best of them? We hear you, we get it. You can be a bad-ass. On October 7th, she told Matt Lauer during the Today show, “I’m hoping to get a little attention.” A little? It seems like you want the world’s eyes focused on your every bold and naughty move. Going from the sweet image of Hannah Montana to boldly riding a wrecking ball naked isn’t wanting a little attention- it is yelling one, loud statement. We hear you, we get it, you want to be sexy. Also recently, she claimed to Rolling Stone magazine that, “I want to be the cool chick that everyone wants to be friends with.” Then she made fun of Sinead o’Connor and Amanda Bynes via tweet for their mental illnesses. Mocking those with a mental illness is not showing others you are cool or that you would make a good friend. In fact, it smacks of kids bullying others on the playground in grammar school. We hear you, we get it, you are still immature. Undoubtedly, Miley can sing, dance and act. Undoubtedly she was a child and is now an adult. We get it. You are a grown woman who has sex appeal. But, we think thou doth protest a bit too much. You don’t have to convince us, Miley. Or are you trying to convince yourself? And by the way, you got our attention with your great singing, dancing and acting over the years. If you can give us a demonstration of a good sense of humor, a raw vulnerability, and even more talent, along with some grown up maturity, that will really make us sit up and take notice. Then we’d really get it. www.thegoodsmag.co

The GOODS Relationship Article:

One Man’s View

By Lonnie Lewis

So you find yourself walking along a sidewalk, you begin to notice couples holding hands, then the thought hits you, “where is my romance?” Only there’s something different in your situation, I can’t seem to find the one. We open our phones and quickly dial every hot chick we know on the way to the next bar with desired hopes she’s still single or has the time to meet. It’s no secret this love thing is not mans strong point. We’re forever lost in this parallel universe where problems are solved with our hands rather than our heads. A friend of mine asked me to describe what its like to love and be in a relationship from a man’s point of view. I instantly sat down, and began to look at my last few relationships and ponder. Truthfully I couldn’t answer that even if I tried. There is no solid answer, each man to his own, and Lord knows with my last few intimate encounters, I could use some lessons myself. I can however tell you what dating and finding love is like from this man’s point of view, and the lessons I’m now learning since my last breakup. My last relationship ended just recently. I could have sworn I was falling in love and the white picket fence was just around the corner. I felt myself caving in to this illusion that I was going to spend my life with this woman, have kids, the whole nine yards. What I didn’t know was that slowly my relationship was falling apart without me even being aware of the damage as it started to unfold. The principal of the problem was my own self-doing. This is the story of most men’s failed relationships; they are most likely our faults. That’s not to say women are totally innocent in the whole breakup. There are obviously two faults when it comes to misguided love. Only this isn’t about pointing fingers, rather taking a look at us men. There’s this trigger in our heads that seems to keep us running from love. We want what we can’t have, and then when we have what we wanted, we seem to get bored or just don’t understand what it takes to keep her around. I don’t think it’s that we don’t have a heart, or feelings. Truly, I think we just don’t have the common sense to realize it takes more effort then that of which we give during the honeymoon period. Its simple, we tend to forget about the small things. It’s the slight flirtatious text messages, flowers on non-occasional circumstances and genuinely just being attentive to her needs that

keep them in our lives. Like most men, we constantly find ourselves consumed with our daily routines and momentary lapses, that we get secure with our significant others being there without effort on our parts. We expect them to be content and aiding to our needs and wants, give us that nurturing were so desperately seeking. There’s no easy road for us to find, its not mechanics. We can’t simply see the problem and read a how-to guide. Relationships can be tricky, too much attention and we’re overbearing, not enough and we lose them another competitive adversary. The key is finding that balance which makes everything sink into place. We shouldn’t have to fight our way to love, rather it just find us in the moment. Maybe that’s the problem at hand, as men, we tend to force situations rather than let them happen naturally. It’s our nature to be dominant. Yet somehow, we need to find simplicity in ourselves in order to maintain the healthy relationship we desire. You could argue that if the right woman comes along, it just clicks. Honestly, this is a myth just

the same as Aphrodite herself coming down to pursue you. Your woman takes work, communication and, above all, patience. These are all valued lessons we learn with each encounter. The art of perfecting these methods is incredibly hard to understand at times. The search is continuous for some of us, and for others, they’ve been blessed with finding someone compatible with minimal effort. It’s only a matter of time before she comes along, and like a fairy tale, your heart beats to a different drum. Just allow it, try not fighting and looking over at your neighbor’s yard. The grass isn’t any greener than what you’ve got in your yard. In the meantime, along this search, keep your head focused on becoming your own friend first, allow yourself to let Ms. Wrong teach you about Ms. Right and try to enjoy Ms. Rightnow until then. We are men, and needs have to be met. It’s genuinely being yourself, allowing change to happen and coexist with your surroundings. Forcing any situation usually lands us in the same spot time and again. Something us fellas all need to learn, “You get out what you put in.”

The GOODS on Marijuana: To Puff Or Pass? By Lonnie Lewis

Its no secret there’s a movement beginning to develop its own following. Try taking a leisurely stroll down Newport Ave in Ocean Beach and you’ll notice a sniff of something strange in the air. Take a look across the street and see a few people with red eyes and grins for days, maybe a couple coughs and bag of Cheetos to boot. You may have just witnessed the most stress free place in San Diego, only to some; it’s becoming a culture change. It’s no longer just the longhaired hippies from the 70’s. It’s your doctors, lawyers, moms, dads, neighbors and then some. What was once considered to be criminal is now becoming more accessible and acceptable.

a dropped joint? Or better yet, getting high and wanting to go fight someone cause they aren’t “cool”. Most of us find ourselves relaxing after a couple tokes and wanting to discuss life, culture, or any magnitude of selfless acts that make us feel more tuned with each other. I wouldn’t want it to sound as though I promote one over the other, after all where’s the evidence to support these claims? Its really all a perspective, opinions that each of us find from our own encounters. Each person to choose their own path, deals with the consequences of that choice, and lives with the outcome. Yes, your decisions do have consequences; so don’t forget there yours to deal with.

There’s no mistaking that more people are finding marijuana to be a social norm. Turn on any number of TV shows and various movies and you’ll find it common to see a character partaking themselves in a positive matter with Marijuana. This only gives more credit to social gatherings where people can smoke and create a new congregation. It used to be social gatherings would take place only at the bar and we would have to drink ourselves to joy. Only this type of situation was usually accompanied to by a fistfight, or at times a regretful encounter of some sort. Yet the argument has been brought to the table, time and again. Is it not better to just get high instead? I mean how many times do we hear about someone fist fighting over

For those that partake in that light-headiness, this may just be a recap, but lets reach out to the unaware. Those nays that think only criminals enjoy the herb. Many of us know there’s a natural herb called Marijuana, common to that of Nettle Leaf or Calamus Root. Endorsement of this herb has now brought forth a greater green and different types of growing methods that have raised the THC levels in order to give a superior affect. Like anything else in this world, with time we find a way to enhance and create a more powerful result. Reactions differ from person to person; some find themselves wanting nothing more than to be sitting on a couch, waiting for their favorite episode to come on. Then they can debate which actor smokes

or doesn’t. Others may seek to journey and socialize, with this new enlighten feeling they have from the high. To each there own, truly its up to the smoker to find his or her own path. I can recall my mother once smoking a joint and frantically walking back in forth throughout the house, peeking through the windows cause she thought the police were going to come and get her. They never came, but it was quite the sight none-the-less.

a few bong loads or couple hits throughout the day may be considered average for that smoker. The guy that’s finding difficulty lifting himself of the couch cause his pile of herb keeps him grounded, well maybe he does have a little problem. Guess you really can’t pass judgment, I still haven’t found a fully functioning weed smoker who doesn’t get lazy at times. Nor have I found a non-smoker who doesn’t do the same.

Are you considered a pothead or average smoker? That’s a tuff one, I mean considering each person has his or her own normal. Much like the scene from the movie Dazed & Confused, when the nerdy guy walks by the greaser and makes his comment about smelling some reefer. To which the greaser replies, “So what I’m smoking a little weed with my friends, what am I a fucking pot head?” Well, I don’t know, do you feel like you are? So maybe

Society adores casting labels, passing judgment and ridiculing what they don’t know or consider being a negative influence. With California, Colorado, and many other states following suit in passing the legalization of Marijuana, it’s becoming more socially acceptable. Heck, even George Washington grew his herb, yeah it was mostly for hemp reasons, but I’m sure him and Martha were smoking a joint or two every now and again just to www.thegoodsmag.co

ease their day. After all, he was putting together a new nation, that’s a lot of stress. It may take some time, and some serious convincing by chemist, doctors, politicians and other public figures before were buying Marlboro greens from the liquor store. However, the days of chilling in a hookah shop smoking weed instead of tobacco are just around the corner. The time is coming, and people are becoming more reasonable. Marijuana isn’t going anywhere; the drug war on weed has concluded, we Americans won, people are ready for change. Why pick up a six-pack of beer, when you can buy and 8th and not be hung over. Fashion Returns: Final Fantasy

By Michael T. Brewer

Fashion design has always been apart of the Final Fantasy brand. These characters have seemingly balanced fantasy costumes and avant-garde couture unlike any other video franchise. Recently, Final Fantasy has been in the spotlight especially for its involvement with the fashion industry. Let’s take a closer look at how fashion has become more involved in the franchise.

Final Fantasy XIII In 2012, Arena Homme+ April issue showcased a very incredible editorial of Final Fantasy 13 characters modeling Prada’s Spring 2012 Mens Collection. What may seem like an unlikely pairing on the surface actually created something rather believable. “The FINAL FANTASY series is known for its creativity and innovation; so working with Prada, a renowned fashion house with such beautiful clothing, was a very exciting opportunity. The images we have been able to create together are vibrant and unique,” said Yoshinori Kitase, producer of FINAL FANTASY XIII-2 in a press release regarding the issue. “Our Spring issue focuses on a world of direction and escapism, and having a visually stunning videogame franchise such as FINAL FANTASY work alongside us and a leading fashion brand like Prada to create something so unique is incredible,” said Max Pearmain, Editor of Arena Homme+. “I’ve always been interested by the power of videogames and their place in society, and the amount of work that’s gone into this project blows my mind. We’re incredibly pleased with the result.” Japanese video game development and publishing company SquareEnix is set for 2014 to release the next installment in the commercially and critically polarizing Final Fantasy XIII trilogy. This last chapter puts Lightning as the main character tasked with a mere thirteen days to save the world from destruction. With the world’s impending doom looming over her, Lightning has found new powers to aid her in her quest. This system is called Schemata which gives her access to different garments that each has its own distinct abilities and powers. Lightning can change her Schema during the battle. This system was first implemented in the 2004 spin-off Final Fantasy X-2 known as Dresspheres.

Currently airing their third and best season yet of the horror anthology, every Wednesday night at 10pm. Following a young group of witches in modern times who are enrolled in an academy for their kind in order to protect and practice their craft. This season has been full of plot twists and turns. Covering everything scandalous from murder to incest, and even the occasional bringing of the dead back to life and FX could not have picked a better time to air this Horror Anthology than in the month of Halloween which only makes it that much better. READ THIS Daniel Coyle’s The Little Book of Talent

By Jessica Krantz

If you are into leadership, teaching, coaching, parenting, or you just want to add some daily improvements to your life, pick up Daniel Coyle’s book, The Little Book of Talent. I found this gem tucked away at Bay Books, off Orange Ave in Coronado. From the moment I started reading it, I was automatically compelled to take something from every chapter and add it into my daily routine. Coyle’s 52 short tips, on how you can improve your teaching and training to become more skilled at your practice, whatever that may be, is inspiring and motivational. One of the main characteristics I enjoyed about this book was its straight-forward delivery of so many practical suggestions. The pithiness of each tip’s title makes them memorable Coyle uses multiple examples from “hotbeds” of talent (sports training facilities, schools of music, etc.) to show how these ideas can be implemented, and that they work. He reinforces his point without weighing down the reading. Talent, creativity, and intelligence are skills one practices repeatedly, continually pushing into new levels of experience. Effort, hard work, and practice make one talented. Talent is not a natural gift. The Little Book of Talent will be an easy read, but is meant to inform you about your approach to learning. I recommending this book to everyone I know who is interested in improving performance for themselves or those they lead, which really, should be everyone.

LISTEN TO THIS Body Parts Artist: Body Parts Album: Fire Dream Label: Father/Daughter Records Genre: Pop Release Date: October 29, 2013

By Michael Tremaine Brewer The experimental electronic duo Body Parts explores vast musical textures and sounds-capes on their debut album Body Parts. Many of the sounds channel the golden years of 80s New Wave. On the worship anthem “Be A God”, Ryder’s vocals invoke a sense of urgency and masochism. The drum loop of “Unavoidable Things” brings to mind 80s Sade. The album has a retro feel that does not seem outdated or contrived but rather paying homage to an incredible era of music. Still, the album remains contemporary and forward thinking with its great lyrical composition, sleek production, and amazing vocals. A must listen for any music lover.

LISTEN TO THIS Simon Curtis Artist: Simon Curtis Album: WWW Release Date: October 14, 2013 Genre: Dance

By Michael Tremaine Brewer Former Android Simon Curtis independently releases new collection of top-notch demos (written for other artists). Offering some of the best EDM/Electro songs released this year, WWW is packed together with a perfect progression of sweatsoaked club tracks. Some songs are Rated-G while others are not made for Top 40 radio. On the salacious “Heart In 2” Simon sounds like he is ready for sex on the dance floor. The stunning “Diamonds On The DanceFloor” is an intense dance odyssey with lush vocals and throbbing bassline. Its similar to the 8-track EP’s released by Lady Gaga (The Fame Monster) and Ke$ha (Cannibal). Simon is currently working on a top-secret music project. For now you can download WWW for free via MuuMuse music blog.
