In today’s fashion people feel pressured to fit in. And sometimes that can lead to easy spending.
of look; whether your look is trendy, casual or fashion forward.
Investing in clothing is something that is definitely recommended. But you should know how to spend your money wisely on the clothing items that you know will be used the most. People with style, know how to shop in style. And by that I mean that quality and taste is most important. I’ve learned that the items that I have spent the most money on have lasted the longest for me. In some cases spending a good chunk of money on a great piece of clothing can give you more mileage.
Consider shopping online. There are great sites where you can find amazing deals and great stuff like Hautelook, Gilt, Topman, Topshop, Nasty Gal, and Ebay! You might

There are plenty of great stores where you can find clothes that are affordable and also fashionable. Stores
also find that these sites offer free shipping. Now, just because shopping online is easier than getting up and driving your car to the mall, don’t over spend and try not to make online shopping a habit. There is absolutely nothing wrong with loving to shop. You just have to know your limit. Now, if you DON’T know your limit, then a great way to save money is to shop during the days when the store is having a sale. That way you’re not paying full price. Believe me, 30% off can go a long way.
like Zara, J. Crew, GAP, H&M, and Forever 21 can provide a wonderful experience for just about anyone and any type
If you are the customer that only shops designer, then there are also other ways for you to save money. Find out when your favorite boutique or store is having their sample sale. You’d be surprised on how much you can save!
“My favorite way to save money on clothes is not shopping at all! Let me clear this one up. What I mean is that sometimes we don’t realize that our closet is full of clothes that we’ve never even worn."
Also, try consignment stores. They have plenty of designer goodies at a good price! Saving money comes with spending wisely. So don’t bother buying a stained shirt at a thrift store, because even if the shirt is $7 there is no guarantee that the stain will come off. No matter how amazing the piece might be.

Want summer shorts for example, then cut off a pair of pants that you no longer use! That way you have summer shorts and you didn’t even spend a dime.
Don’t get me wrong, I highly recommend shopping at second hand stores. At these stores you can find wonderful, one of a kind and affordable items. But you mustn’t forget that a thrift store is still a store and it can be easy to spend money on unnecessary items. My favorite way to save money on clothes is not shopping at all! Beauty Trends By Christina DiMaria
With the change of every season comes the change of trends in fashion and beauty. This fall we’re seeing old trends returning to the runway, and some relatively new looks that might just become one of your new staples in your makeup bag. No matter which trends you choose to follow, you can be sure of one thing – fall is all about the colors and bold looks, as well as embracing the end of summer.
Go for the Gold!
12 | www.theGOODSmag.co • August 2012
The first beauty trend of this season is the gold rush. And trust us, everyone will be rushing to get this look. Gold eyeshadow and gold eyeliner are hot for fall. This shimmering hue can make you look like a shining star. Don’t forget to pair it with a matching pair of gold earrings!
Who Said that You Have to be a Cloud to Have a Silver Lining? Second place, a.k,a earning a silver medal, might not be as highly acclaimed as gold, but for fall it definitely is a winner in our book. You may have thought that silver and gold decorations were only for Christmas trees, but that’s not the case for autumn 2012. Both hues are dazzling the runways. Silver is sparkling, sexy and oh-so-easy to match everything with. So try a gray or silver eyeshadow or opt for some silver tights or leggings. You could even choose to match some silver in your blouse with some silver eyeliner.
Feel Free to Skimp on the Makeup
Copper isn’t just for Pipes and Pennies! Obviously, autumn is about metals, since silver, gold and copper are all hits of the season. Use copper eyeshadow, or try a copper eyeliner to give your eyes a neutral tone for the chilly weather. Don’t hesitate to mix copper with other colors either. A copper shadow with black eyeliner can really stand out.
13 | www.theGOODSmag.co • August 2012
While makeup is fun and can definitely be a way to express yourself, fall is all about being natural, just like the natural beauty of the autumn leaves sailing to the ground. Try using a very minimal amount of makeup just to enhance your best facial features, rather than covering up your natural beauty.

Chavonne Stewart Red Velvet Desserts
Born a twin in a musical family of 10, Chavonne Stewart’s talents shined at a very early age. Her soulful voice has granted her the opportunity to travel the world and perform with legendary artists such as Mavis Staples of the legendary Staples Singers and 2004 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Jackson Browne with whom she also appeared as a featured vocalist on two albums, “Naked Ride Home” and “Time The Conqueror”. She has also recorded featured and background vocals for George Benson and Al Jarreau “Givin’ It Up”, Mavis Staples “Live: Hope at the Hideout”, Ruben Studdard (American Idol’s second-season winner) “I Need An Angel”, Mary Haskell “Inspired”, and Amy Correia “Love Changes Everything” to name a few. Some of her stage credits include appearances with - American Idol’s third-season winner Fantasia, Faith Evans, Michael McDonald, Bonnie Raitt, and Diddy. After a fulfilling career of recording and touring, Chavonne decided to start her family. During this new and exciting stage in her life of becoming a mother, she discovered that she had a talent for baking and her love affair with this art form was born. So she began baking her homemade cream cakes, truffles, and cookies for her family and church family and they loved it. Chavonne helped her church choir raise over five thousand dollars by selling her cream cakes and
cookies for a fundraiser to raise funds for new choir robes. She has had the privilege of having her desserts featured on the filming of reality star Kendra Wilkinson for her upcoming reality show, “Kendra on Top” which will be airing in the summer. Red Velvet Desserts, which is the name of her desserts’ company, has also been featured at a Hollywood designer’s party, Gloss Army and she received amazing feedback. Her new found dream is to turn Red Velvet Desserts into a successful bakery. With the same passion and ambition that helped her accomplish so many things in her musical career, she looks forward to the day this dream becomes a reality. https://www.facebook.com/redvelvetdesserts Photographer: Antoine James Makeup Artist: Amy Clarke Hair Stylist: Carmen Clifton Wardrobe Stylist: Gabrielle Lewis

Foods for building a
Lean& Sexy body
By Fernando Sampson
Have you been working out like a beast, lifting, core exercising, even doing cardio 3-4 times a week? Still you haven’t been able to shake that stubborn fat and get ripped. You are steady training but nothing seems to work. Here are some tips that are proven methods to shake the fat and build lean muscle.
First of all you need to stay away from foods with high fructose corn syrup in them. This is an unnatural sweetener with no nutritional value. Unfortunately some of your favorite foods are packed with the stuff. So here are some tips to stay away from the unnecessary calories and sugars.
60 | www.theGOODSmag.co • August 2012
Drink lots of water or coconut water instead of downing your favorite soda. Soda is a luxury your body truly can’t afford; it does nothing for you besides add empty calories. Instead of grabbing for your favorite chips, pick up some trail mix with plenty of dried fruit and nuts (almonds are
best). Is your weakness something delicious, sweet and sugary? Try nature’s sugar, we are talking about the almighty fruits! In the morning make a smoothie with lots of berries, a banana, some Greek yogurt and spinach for added iron. Fruit will keep you feeling full for a long period of time, hence the morning suggestion. If you really want to pack your smoothie with some punch, add a scoop of your favorite protein powder or some sugar free peanut butter. Don’t forget some anti-oxidant packed juice (with no added sugars) to make the smoothie easy to
sip, and ice for texture. Are you a chocolate and candy freak? Substitute the junk for two protein bars a day and ditch the snickers. If you pack your diet with protein, your body will have no choice but to build muscle. Stay away from the bakery aisle, if you don’t buy it you can’t be tempted at home with it. So you’ve got your sweet tooth under control, now let’s get you going on what is truly key in building lean muscle. Protein is king and you need it to build that beach body look. The top three meats are, fish, turkey and chicken. Calm down, we aren’t talking fried chicken or catfish here. You need to grill or bake salmon and eat it with a good amount of colorful vegetables. Mix your chicken with whole wheat pasta or eat it with black beans and brown rice in a whole wheat wrap. Turkey meat in your spaghetti is an awesome
idea, or make some turkey burgers on whole wheat buns. Either way you dish it up, these 3 protein packed meats will give you the body you desire. When it comes to protein for building lean muscle, these three options won’t fail you! Now to correctly implement these foods in your diet, eat at least 5 small protein based meals a day. Space them out every 2-3 hours throughout your day to get the best results. If you do this and hit the gym consistently, you’ll drop the stubborn weight and build lean muscle in no time. It’s hard for everybody to ditch the comfort foods they love but if you follow this plan, over time you’ll notice you don’t even have unnatural food cravings anymore. Some foods to stay away from are: coffee, cookies, cakes, artificial sweeteners, chips, fried foods, hamburgers, salted nuts, soft drinks, bacon, fast food and dare I say, alcohol! Foods to eat more of: nuts, fruits, vegetables, chicken, fish, turkey meat, protein packed snacks like protein bars, eggs and tofu. ■ Fernando Sampson Facebook.com/fitclubsandiego2012 FitClubSanDiego@gmail.com
Designer Spotlight: Camille Wood By: Donna Wilkins
This October, Fashion Week San Diego (FWSD) will not only feature clothing designers, but those who design accessories as well. Just like an unmade face may look beautiful on its own, makeup can enhance and also draw out its beauty. The same is true for great clothes. When the right accessories are integrated on a piece, it comes to life. This can be as simple as complimenting it with the right shoes, a pair of earrings, a bracelet, hat, belt, or more involved with the draping of a scarf.
arena is by way of a portrait artist, on air radio personality (Suzy Snicklefritz, the dumb blond), worked for President Reagan, owned an art gallery, drove a limo, co-owned a national media presentation and managed a 400 acre ranch. She is best known for her beautiful hats, which her website describes as “fabulously funky to glitzy & glamorous, Dazzlme offers a selection of hats to fit every style & personality, artist and designer, Camille, handcrafts each creation using only the finest crystals and trims.”
This month prepare to be dazzled as the spotlight shines on Camille Wood of Dazzlme. Camille’s road into the design
The G.O.O.D.S. magazine: The Dazzlme motto is, “Saving You from the Ordinary”. The FWSD website writes that Dazzlme is a unique line of hats created for women who want to stand out in a crowd looking beautiful, sexy and adventurous, but always with class, elegance and style. If you could sum up both of these statements into one, what would it be?

Camille Wood: My design style centers on creating unique, out of the ordinary pieces without compromising style and beauty. TGM: You have experience doing many different things. They obviously led you, in a roundabout way, to become a designer. Where did you find the fashion connection in your previous careers? CW: My mother was a Vogue model and Revlon beauty consultant. Some of that was bound to transfer to me. While managing the ranch, it was interesting to find myself knee deep in muddy pastures asking, “How much is that pig? or What do you charge to slaughter a cow?” It took some getting used to, but I’ve always been a big believer in blooming where one is planted. TGM: As the saying goes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. How did you transition from selling farm animals to designing and selling hats?
sea, came the Dazzlme mermaids heating up the runway in one-of-a-kind rhinestone, pearl and beaded head pieces and slinky mermaid costumes complete with the proverbial mermaid tail. The show was a huge success and Dazzlme’s Mermaid Collection opened the door for an opportunity to design Harajuku fashion for the Anime Conji show in San Diego. Haute Harajuku by Dazzlme was a hit and has been shown in San Diego and L.A. TGM: Harajuku is an area in Japan where there are many upscale boutiques. It’s the hub of Japanese fashion culture, a place for folks to show off their style and to be seen. How would you describe your designs?
CW: Dazzlme came quite by accident while searching for unique hats that were suitable for the ranch, but that would also carry me into the evening. Unable to find styles that excited me, I began designing hats for myself. I kept my day job and designed in the evenings and on weekends. After many months of hearing, “Hey I love your hat, where can I buy one?” I took a leap of faith, left the cows behind and started, Dazzlme. TGM: This doesn’t sound like the first time you took a leap of faith, only because you changed your career path often, and did many things that didn’t necessarily tie together. In this industry, will designing hats be enough for you?
63 | www.theGOODSmag.co • August 2012
CW: For the last several years I have been a happy hat designer until one fortuitous day when I was invited to participate in a show where they were looking for an unusual and unique theme for the runway. I jumped at the opportunity and from out of the blue, or should I say, out of the
CW: Bold, glamorous, edgy, with a touch of sparkle and dazzle. As an artist, I’ve always had a passion for the dramatic and unusual. If it’s eye-catching and stands out in a crowd, then you’ll probably find it hanging in my closet. TGM: You’ve been successful promoting your fashion on your own. Why Fashion Week San Diego? CW: It’s such a thrill to be part of Fashion Week San Diego. I consider it an honor to have been one of the designers selected for this event and I am looking forward to the opportunity of revealing my new dress line and head pieces at the show.
fashion here in the states? CW: My designs are currently available for purchase on my website, dazzlme.com and will soon be available in various boutiques in the San Diego, Orange County and L.A. areas. TGM: See you at FWSD in October. We look forward to not only your stylish hats, but the unveiling of your woman’s line as well. CW: Thank you. See you in October. Are you located in San Diego? I am located in the wonderful Golden Hill near Downtown San Diego. So when thinking about accessorizing and topping of your outfit with that special hat which will make you stand out in the crowd, go to dazzlme.com where you’ll find many choices such as baseball, military caps, Fedoras, headbands, newsboy caps, fashion and western hats along with “Just Me” one of a kind hats.
64 | www.theGOODSmag.co • August 2012
TGM: So what’s next for Dazzlme? CW: I’m currently working on placing hats and dresses in boutiques in various cities along the Southern California coastline and am excited about working with several individuals who are interested in showing Dazzlme in the U.K. Next on the horizon are new hat designs, but in the works is an exciting line of dresses designed for women of all ages, but with a focus on styles for women over 40 who want to stand out in a crowd looking beautiful, adventurous and sexy, but always with class, elegance and style. TGM: It makes sense that your hats would be sold in the U.K. They have a custom of wearing hats to both formal and informal events. In closing, where can we find your

Is it all about
The Looks?
Before you book the next appointment with your cosmetologist, or storm through the make up isle in attempts to impress your partner you may want to take a step back and contemplate specific signs in your relationship that will help you determine whether you can stop spending your weekly paychecks on physical enhancements and start transferring those efforts to emotional development. One of the most common generalizations is that “men are completely different than women” and though that is very true in regards to genetic makeup, socialization, and the way we think, when it comes to looks and physicality we are two of the same kind. Similar to the concept of shoe shopping, our eyes are drawn to the shoe that appeals to us the most. In a line up of bright red stilettos, beige wedges, and gold flats, each woman will choose a different style and color based on their particular interest. Women will always choose the shoe that most appeals to their taste; because that is what their eyes are naturally drawn too. When initially choosing a shoe is does not matter if it fits, if they have your size, or if it is even logical to purchase, the only bullet that is triggered in the mind is “I love that shoe” and “I want it”. After the shoe is chosen based off of it’s exterior, then it may go forward with the specifics; size, style, color, brand, etc.
84 | www.theGOODSmag.co • August 2012
The way men contemplate looks and apply it to women. Is almost identical to the way women think in the process of shoe shopping. The exterior is vital when initially choosing whether he will progress further into getting to know you, asking for a number, or meeting with you at all. Men are extremely visual. If a man were not attracted to you initially he would not have taken the time to
even converse with you in the first place. To compare it with shoes, if you do not like a specific pair on the racks you will not pick it up, but merely roll your eyes over it and progress to next one. The thought process is identical. Looks are important, initially. It will determine whether there is an attraction when first meeting. As you gradually progress with your partner the “looks” aspect will not be as imperative as it was in the first stages of your relationship. Similar to shoes when you choose a good pair that matches with every outfit, you never want to get rid of it. Even though it is not “new” and “glamorous” as when it was first bought, the more you wear it you realize the shoe is very practical, cute, and comfortable. Some women see men being visual creatures as a downfall in human nature, but actually it can be to a women’s advantage. This can be especially true for women who have been with their partners for a while. If you have been with your partner for over a year it is safe to say that the “looks” aspect is not as imperative, by this stage he is well acquainted with your personality, who you are, your functions, and has more often than not seen you in bad lighting. Women in this scenario have an upper hand. Due to your partner being comfortable with your on a regular basis “playing up your looks” allows you to hold leverage instead of having to cook his favorite meal, or calling his mother to get him to accompany you at the art gala that he hates, by trying a new hairstyle or a more form fitting outfit that is out of the ordinary you are utilizing your upper hand. Men function off of physical, which for many women means that looks may very well be important, but understanding why and the thought process into how looks are applied into relationships and dating can better gage whether you are at a state in your relationship where you may not have to be purchasing as much makeup and can focus more on getting to know each other and building a foundation with your partner knowing that it is officially past the stage of initial looks. ■
The Right Fit
By Natalia Dominguez
Whether you are wearing jeans and a t-shirt or a little black dress, a leather jacket is the perfect accessory to add to your outfit. Leather jackets are perfect for any season and make great outfit toppers! Since fall is just right around the corner, a leather jacket will make a perfect item for those chilly days in fall. Leather jackets are a versatile piece of clothing, and have also become a popular item in today’s fashion. You can almost wear a leather jacket with anything, not to mention there are various different styles of leather jackets to choose from. Winter jackets, moto jackets, and faux jackets just to name a few. Not only will a jacket show off your edgy side, but it will also be a great investment to your wardrobe. How much you decide to spend on a jacket is to your own discretion. But I highly recommend finding a jacket that is made of great quality to better last you. Also, be sure that when you find a jacket, that you choose one that fits your body type and compliments your figure. Here are a few different ways on how to wear your jacket:
Work Casual: It may be a bit windy and chilly, but this is where your jacket can come in handy. Pair your jacket with one of your girly floral dresses. And if you are like me, just a little bit of wind will make you freeze, so throw on some cute warm tights and a pair of boots.
Lazy Weekend: Top off a pair of dark denim jeans, whether they are skinny or flare and a plain or graphic tee with your jacket. Combat boots or sneakers work well with this outfit.
Date Night:

For those sexy date nights, a jacket will definitely add enough edge and balance to a tight fitted girly dress, heels, and the right accessories. These were just a few examples on how to wear a leather jacket. There are plenty more styles on how to wear a jacket so don’t be afraid of trying them out. ■

Based on the deliciousness of the striking silhouettes, femme fatale makeup, hip-swiveling and shoulder-shimmying performances from the 1976 film “Sparkle”, ahr.es.ihm™ by R. Shay Miles has designed a tribute collection to pay homage to the great glamour goddesses of the cinematic classic. Setting the scene of a late-1950s in Vallejo, Calif. at the historical landmark, Empress Theatre, the editorial tribute captures a hybrid look of the film’s characters Sparkle and Sister, two members of a Supremes-esque local girl group; while also giving special recognition to the late Whitney Houston and her upcoming movie remake, “Sparkle” (2012). The ‘Ode to Sparkle’ Collection is a quintessential experience that revisits the rules from the fashion time capsule when ‘ladies and gentlemen’ would step out in their finest attire and it reinforces the sultry, regal, and sophistication which is the innate nature of every woman.

Personal Style vs. Trends By Natalia Dominquez
112 | www.theGOODSmag.co • August 2012
There are people in this world that have been gifted with great taste in color and in style; but truthfully, not all of us have that gift. Style plays a bigger role in our every day life than most people think. People can make decisions based on the clothes that you are wearing, even before you’ve had the chance to introduce yourself. Instead of throwing on the same old t-shirt and jeans, dig into your creative side and wear something that truly shows off your personality. You don’t have to be a ‘fashionista’ to have your own unique and personal style. It is however important that you know the things that you like and don’t like. That way you can start building a wardrobe that is fun and personal to you. The more you experiment with your wardrobe, the sooner you will discover that some styles fit your body and personality. It will also help weed out the styles and trends that don’t suit you. Your confidence will grow and you will feel more comfortable shopping for yourself and without spending a fortune. Fashion and trends are constantly changing. One season it’s all about the peplum and nudes, the next season it’s all about black and white. Don’t get me wrong, I love the idea of trends because it helps some of us out there that need a boost of creativity, but I am still a true believer of creating new concepts for yourself. It’s always nice when you’re not a carbon copy of everyone else. Trends last a day (or even less sometimes)
and then they’re gone, like a blink of an eye. That’s why it’s important that you don’t take a look too seriously and use your imagination to the dress yourself. Once you have discovered your style, you will realize that trends no longer mean anything to you. And although trends may give you ideas, they will not determine your style any longer. It will become easier for you to shop for yourself because you will have a better idea of what looks great on you. There may not be any rules to style but a few pointers to live by: When exposing cleavage, make sure to do it tastefully. Try not to wear jeans to your cousins wedding (unless it’s your only option, which in that case you have no choice.) And last but not least, make sure to stay original. Staying true to yourself is important. But there is nothing wrong with experimenting and trying new styles. Your style and taste will change, and will progressively improve but in the end you should always stay true to yourself. True and personal style can only come by knowing who you are. A piece of advice: Never take a look too seriously. Also, don’t follow trends, but use them to help you add new ideas to your personal style. ■

Lifestyle: Immortality Possible by 2046?
122 | www.theGOODSmag.co • August 2012
What if there was a potion that you could drink to double your life span? How about a pill or a genetic tweak that might allow you to live for centuries? Sure, the average human life span in the West has increased by more than 50 percent over the past century, but that was largely a matter of decreasing childhood mortality. Immortality possible by the year 2045? Up to 30 scientists believe such a breakthrough can happen with the first major goal taking place within the next ten years. This could be done by transplanting a human brain into a robotic body. According to Daily Mail, 31-year-old Russian entrepreneur, Itskov, issued a letter to several billionaires listed in Forbes magazine about his immortality project. In fact the initiative is opening its first office in San Francisco, California later this year. Itskov refers to the 'Avatar' theory as "cybernetic immortality" and the "artificial body." If something in your car breaks or stops working, like
your radiator, you can always just take it out and replace it, but what about us? If my body parts break down, like my heart, I might be able to get a transplant, but right now, even if I could find a replacement part, one, it's going to be used, and two, my body might just reject it. The dream would be to replace my heart, or whatever's broken, with a brand new version, in perfect, working condition, but exactly like my original. People have been talking about this for years, but now, thanks to some brand new discoveries, the dream of custom-made, personalized body parts may soon become a reality. Will his goal of giving people never-ending life be a reality? In general terms, once a brain is transplanted into a robot, by 2030 an artificial human brain will be created in which human minds can be "uploaded." The final goal will be uploading human minds into holographic bodies. If immortality is possible, would you want to live forever? â–

Musicians Aqua-Rhythm By Taylor Romine Within the sea of teenage Heavy Metal bands and Indie rock comes the fresh new sound of the band Aqua-Rhythm. Formed by three talented young men, the budding young band is on its way to growing a fan base of all ages. With influences from the sixties and seventies, they add on their own sound to every piece that they perform. We talked to Troy Braunstien, guitarist of Aqua-Rhythm, to get an inside look at the band:
124 | www.theGOODSmag.co • August 2012
How and when did your band form? Who is each member and what do they play? Aqua-Rhythm started a little over a year ago. The members include Zen Perry on drums, Michael Stell on bass and vocals, and Troy Braunstein on guitar and vocals. We were all already friends and musical acquaintances before forming the band. It all started by us getting together and jamming and writing music together, after a while we realized we had a substantial amount of original material, our own sound, and enough playing experience where we decided to take it to the next level and form a working band and started playing shows. Where did the name Aqua-Rhythm come from? The name of the band came pretty randomly. We were just throwing out band names and that came into the mix and we had no better ideas so it stuck. We kind of think of it as coming from the idea that water has natural rhythms to it. It’s kind of a weird idea but we just kind of liked the name. That’s why we stayed with it.
What genre do you consider your band? How do you think your music makes you stand out from others in your style of music? We feel like it’s really hard to put one specific genre and stamp it on all of our music because we have such a wide variety of influences. But when people ask we describe it as psychedelic bluesy rock. I think something that makes us stand out is that we don’t sound like one specific band or style and we use our wide variety of influences to make an original sound. What is the general theme in your music? How does your music-making process go about? The music making process usually starts with one of us bringing an idea or a half-finished song or sometimes even a finished song to the table, and then we all collaborate on them to finish them or give them what they need to make it the band’s finished product. Themes of songs vary as every song is different and usually comes from a different feeling and idea. How did you choose the brand of your instruments? Do you think it substantially affects your sound? The first guitar I ever started playing with was a Fender Strat and now my main guitar for the band is a Fender Startocaster. I run that through a Fender super reverb tube amplifier, I definitely think that is a big contributor to the band’s sound and vibe. It’s the sound that I’ve always been going for. You can’t beat a strat through a Fender reverb. I know Zen has always played on Tama drum kits with all the bells and whistles. His set up is
huge and it’s a pain in the ass to bring to shows. Michael is a believer in Fender as well. He always plays his Fender Jaguar bass which is very unique and versatile. I think all of our instrument choices greatly affect the sound possibilities. What has been the most exciting venue for you to play at? Any upcoming shows? I would say the most exciting venue that we have played so far is definitely the House of Blues San Diego just because it’s so big and has had so many great musicians come through it. Looks like the next show will be August 10th at Soma San Diego. What is your ultimate goal for the band? You are pretty ambitious for a young band, do you think that will continue? The ultimate goal for the band would be to just take it as far as we can, play the best we possibly can, and keep trying to reach our musical visions. We also just want to keep playing more shows and work our way up and get more fans. I think it’s really just the start of being ambitious about music and the band because we all hold music as a main focus in our lives. So we will be ambitious about anything we are working on when it comes to music.
How can future fans access your music? Future fans can keep up with the band and access our music through our Facebook page, Soundcloud, Reverbnation, and our band website which is linked from our Facebook. There are a lot of ways for free listening and downloads of the band online. We are also planning on getting in the studio sometime in August to record our first full length album. Anything else you would like to add? Like “Aqua-Rhythm” on Facebook, stay informed, and find out about more upcoming shows and a release of an album. To find out about upcoming news and tour dates you can visit http://fendertroy.wix.com/aquarythm. ■

Single and Album Reviews from some of Today’s Hottest Artists... By: Michael Tremaine Brewer
Amelia Lily – You Bring Me Joy (Single Review) Released - August 26, 2012 (Sony Records)
128 | www.theGOODSmag.co • August 2012
Recent X-Factor UK finalist Amelia Lily releases her debut single “You Bring Me Joy.” The Xenomania produced Glam Rock gem pulsates with vintage guitar riffs and stunning synths. Amelia’s angst-induced vocal texture blends well with the production in perfect harmony. Molding chilling lyrics, brilliant vocals and killer production, this song brings nothing but unbridled joy and sheer misery.
Gretchen Rossi – Unbreakable (Single Review) Released - June 26, 2012 (Citrusonic Label Group)
Gretchen Rossi of Real Housewives of Orange County fame released her official debut single “Unbreakable.” Co-penned with Dance/club singer-songwriter Kimberly Cole, the song deals with overcoming obstacles with fervor and zeal. Gretchen triumphantly sings “To live I won’t give up this fight/ There’s so much more of me inside.” Gretchen’s sweet and endearing vocals illuminate the message of the song. Its a great summer anthem that balances the fine line of DancePop without leaning too much to either side.
Belmont Lights – Halfway (Single Review) (Universal Republic)
San-Diego Pop/Rock band Belmont Lights have crafted a thoughtful and emotional debut single “Halfway” that channels British Piano/Rock with American sensibilities. The song has a great build ups with soaring vocals and melodic instrumentation. There’s a certain familiarity to the song that brings to mind bands like Train and OneRepublic. A job well done indeed
Havana Brown – When The Lights Go Out (Album Review) (Universal Republic)
Australian DJ turned DancePop singer Havana Brown released her debut EP When The Lights Go Out. Off the heels of her smash single “We Run The Night,” Havana put together a surprisingly eclectic electronic album. Judging from her first two singles, I was sure I would be overwhelmed with disposable and plastic dance numbers devoid of any identity. But I was taken in a different direction. Each song has its on identity and point of view. The song that stuck out the most was “One Way Trip,” a Dub-Step groove with an amazing bass-line and 90s rap melody. It was quite refreshing to hear the production changes on “Big Banana.” It was not the same by-the-numbers four-on-the-floor. The drum loop changes into a Electro-pop fuzz with wobbling dirty bass. And the sudden drum loop changes on “Wonderland” was quite unexpected as well. There is great attention to production and subtle details. The album as whole is a very refreshing spin on the current trends in Pop music. Apparently there is a lot that goes on when the lights go out.
Wynter Gordon – ‘Human Condition: Prt.1 Doleo’(Album Review)
Not many people are fluent in Latin, which means most will have to Google “Doleo.” The word “doleo” loosely translates “to suffer pain, to be pained, grieve.” This is the first in what will be a series that explores the Human Condition. Pain is a common human condition that allows us as humans to relate to one another. Pain, to some, is the very condition that helps one distinguish reality from illusion. Wynter Gordon has established herself as a certified international Electronic Dance Music starlet. But on this new project, Wynter has striped herself of the gloss and glitz of club-ready Dance/Pop and reveals the vulnerable human that lies within. Equipped with Indie/Rock guitars, Alt-Pop synthesizers and Tribal drums, the album cascades through the emotional journey of pain. On “Giving In,” she sings over a dragging drum loop and grunge guitar licks. This introduction to the album sets the tone for the entire album. It’s somber, haunting, and somewhat daring. The BritPop folk fusion of “Waiting” is probably the most mainstream song on the album. However, its still a far-cry from her DancePop debut. The tribal groove of “No Hush” is exhilarating and simply lush. Even the ambiguous chanting blends well with the production. And the repetitious rhythm of her singing “You Love Me, You Love Me, You Love Me...” continues the yearning found on the song. The cool nonchalant nature of “Nervous” creates a passive aggressive tension on the album’s ending. With its cooler-than-you Indie-Rap guitar riff and Travis Scott’s flow makes a perfect pairing for the song. Definitely a solid finish to a stellar album of experimentation and indie flavor. Wynter has conjured a storm of misery soaked in sorrow that sneaks up on you like a good shot of Tequila. Truly a wonderful start to what will be a thought-provoking introspective journey.

Look Out For: Danai Gurira By: Russell Davis
Danai is a rising star in the television and film industry. She has done a few films and appeared in minor roles on shows like Law and Order and Lie To Me. She also had one TV show under her resume that lasted for a season called Treme. It appeared as a HBO series between the 2010 – 2011 season without being renewed. Her tough girl look has turned heads of many producers interested in making her a star. You might not recognize her just yet because she looks totally different in her role on a new show on the AMC network. She plays Michonne on The Walking Dead. Now do you recognize her? I bet that you do. Her new role has gained a lot of attention from media outlets and fans of the comic books series. They are saying that she looks the part and after viewing the Comic Con trailer it seems that she is playing the part very well. During her Comic Con interview she talks about her character being strong and original. She enjoys that her character is a fan favorite and is hoping that the fans embrace her. She talks about seeing a piece of
herself in her character and hopes if anything like that really happens that she can be just as brave as Michonne. She goes on and explains that the new season of The Walking Dead is going to be nonstop action and unpredictable. She finishes saying that you will be glued to your seat. Despite being of Zimbabwe decent she was not born there. She was born in Iowa and moved to Zimbabwe with her parents at the age of 5. When she got older she returned to the states and received an MFA from the New York Tisch School of the arts. She is also a co – author of a play called “In the Continuum”. She was even nominated for the Joseph Jefferson Award for an actress in a principal role. She is a writer, actress, and model; Three deadly combinations. She is definitely a female on a mission and someone that the world needs to look out for. She already has been offered movie roles and it looks like she’s not slowing down. The Walking Dead’s season 3 premier is Oct 14th at 9:00 P.M. on AMC. We’ll be watching… ■
