Pursue opportunities to increase community impact through our services to individuals and families.

• Goodwill-Suncoast served 92,723 people during 2019 and placed 2,125 people in jobs. • Job Connection centers inside Goodwill stores in St. Petersburg and Riverview served 5,913 people during 2019. • Job Connection added virtual services this spring at myjobconnection.org, with live chat, video conferencing and other resources to assist people impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. • Goodwill Temporary Staffing served 1,437 job seekers and placed 882 people in jobs during 2019, a gain of 8% in job placements over the previous year. • Goodwill’s Community Corrections Center in St. Petersburg provided GED assistance to participants, with 18 obtaining their GED certification.

• Our BookWorks childhood literacy program presented 108,133 books to 55,250 children from families with low incomes.


• Project SEARCH, and JET (Job, Education & Training) offered on-the-job training opportunities to help 72 youth with disabilities transition from high school to community employment through internships with community employers. • JET Certified was launched, providing virtual instruction to help young people with disabilities earn credentials in hospitality, customer service/retail and food handling/food service as part of the JET program.

• During the second year of partnership with Junior Achievement of Tampa Bay, Goodwill hosted 11,755 8th and 9th graders at its storefront in the Tampa Finance Park, helping them learn about budgeting and personal finance as they found out about Goodwill as a budget-friendly retailer and about our services to the community.


Create new opportunities to capture market share of donated materials.

• 64,306,400 pounds of donations were collected and 81% of those items were reused or recycled, diverting them from landfills and supporting sustainability efforts.

• G o o d w i l l - S u n c o a st c o l l e c t e d 1,286,128 donations to support Goodwill’s services to the community.


• Donations at Goodwill stores and donation centers were supplemented by 98 community donation events such as neighborhood yard sales, 239 donations from more than 25 area businesses, and 35 partners in our Giving Makes Cents program.


Accelerate retail growth to expand the mission through self-funding.

• Sales at our stores and online produced $52.55 million in revenue for 2019-2020, despite the negative impact of COVID-19 on Goodwill. Sales through February were a record breaking 12.13% ahead of the previous year.

• Our E-commerce program generated $718,586 in sales on shopgoodwill. com, up from $176,968 during its first eight months the previous year.


• Record-breaking Halloween sales of $9.9 million for September and October were 5.8% more than the previous year and 3.8% ahead of budget.

• Retail sales allowed Goodwill to deliver $ 2,636,945 in self-funded mission services to 91,329 people in the community.

• A total of 740 team members attended Financial Literacy workshops presented by five partner financial institutions at Goodwill locations on topics such as preparing for retirement as well as budgeting and saving. • Our Career Navigation services assisted 1,173 team members and supported 56 with tuition assistance.

• 53 Goodwill retail associates completed National Retail Federation (NRF ) Customer Services and Sales Training during the past year and earned NRF certification and a salary increase. Customer Service & Sales

• The annual review of group insurance coverage again resulted in no increase in premiums for our team members as Goodwill absorbed these costs.

• 235 team members participated in Resource Fairs at nine locations, learning about wellness initiatives, tuition assistance and c areer navigation services.


Increase major gifts and planned giving.

• Fund Development raised $1,206,133 and generated total funds of $1,443,333, with investment income. • The Help the Helpers digital fundraising campaign brought in more than $10,000 in donations, more than doubling any previous online giving campaign.


• Thompson & Associates hosted 15 estate planning meetings at Goodwill during the past year. These meetings have resulted in $3.1 million in current and deferred planned gifts to Goodwill since this program began two years ago.

• The Round Up program raised $430,774 this year. Not only did this provide essential funds for our services, but the work of Fund Development team members provided invaluable training to our frontline retail staff to ensure employee mission awareness.


Educate people about what Goodwill does so we will be the first choice for donors, shoppers and employment.

• Goodwill-Suncoast earned $232,993 worth of free positive media exposure including front page coverage about Goodwill stores reopening in May to support job services; TV coverage about Goodwill as the source for Halloween costumes and holiday attire with purchases supporting services; and public affairs shows about Goodwill’s services airing on multiple radio stations.


• Effective marketing of Goodwill-Suncoast’s offerings on shopgoodwill.com contributed to significant sales increases while communicating that shopgoodwill purchases support job services. • Mission messaging to shoppers and donors increased with the installation of mission graphics at four additional stores and a drive-through donation center and the addition of video messaging at a 10th store. Monitors with mission messaging are now seen by shoppers in line at all signature stores. • A new digital marketing campaign reached more than a million people with the message that donations of clothes and shoes support Goodwill’s employment services.

• The “Story Behind the Store” campaign was launched on social media and on goodwill-suncoast. org to highlight the success stories made possible by purchases at Goodwill stores.


Expand strategic relationships with government, business and community leadership in order to better serve the community. • Goodwill-Suncoast staff participated in advocacy events with the Florida Goodwill Association in Tallahassee to expand Goodwill’s connections and promote support for Goodwill’s mission. • During the pandemic, Goodwill-Suncoast staff met with state Sen. Brandes and a representative from Sen. Rubio’s legislative team to advocate for assistance to local non-profits. Additional outreach to each member of Congress within Goodwill’s territory resulted in 100% of all of members signing on to a national letter of support for nonprofits regarding federal COVID-19 relief packages.


• Goodwill partnered with Career Pathways/Pinellas Job Corp to offer NRF Customer Service and Sales Training to people in the community. • Senior Goodwill-Suncoast staff served in leadership roles with the local workforce board, CareerSource Pinellas, St. Pete Works and Pinellas Works community planning committees, the statewide RESPECT Business Development Committee, The Gulfport Senior Center Foundation, Rotary Club of St. Petersburg, Leadership Tampa Bay and on the board of Goodwill Industries International. • Goodwill partnered with Hilton Ocala and seven other businesses in Pinellas, Marion and Citrus counties to offer internships to help young people with disabilities transition from high school to community employment.

• The Tampa B ay L ightning and Goodwill Ambassadors participated in a tailgate cookout party with Goodwill clients with disabilities.


Maximize the value and effectiveness of the Board of Directors and volunteers. • The Board’s Strategic Planning Committee worked with staff to develop and obtain board approval of the new five-year strategic plan, including an updated mission, vision, and service commitment. • Board members updated the governing bylaws for Goodwill Industries-Suncoast, as well as the bylaws and articles of incorporation for JobWorks. • All board members supported Goodwill’s mission through contributions.

• Pre-pandemic, Goodwill hosted six corporate volunteer events, allowing more than 100 individuals to interact with people served and learn about the Goodwill mission.


• Participants in Goodwill corrections programs volunteered 7,408 hours as part of the organization’s commitment to give back to the community.

• 185 students participated in the JAG (Junior Ambassadors of Goodwill) program during the past year, learning a b o u t G o o d w i l l ’s s e r v i c e s w h i l e contributing 5,072 volunteer hours.


Enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness. • We implemented a Human Capital Management (HCM) system, ADP Workforce Now, that will support employee onboarding, time and attendance, scheduling, and includes mobile capabilities that will empower Goodwill’s workforce. • Goodwill Temporary Staffing earned revenue of $1,259,354 while achieving a gain of $516,914 to support services.

• Dash cameras were installed in all fleet vehicles to increase driver productivity and assist with any incident investigations.


Utilize risk management and corporate compliance as essential business practices. • We maintained our PCI DSS compliance by meeting all 300+ PCI Data security standards. • We started migrating our computing environment to Microsoft Office 365 and upgrading to Windows 10. This software will give us more remote (cloud) capability for Goodwill team members.

• Goodwill-Suncoast continued to attain positive results during external auditing and inspections.


Our Mission Transforming lives through lifelong learning and the power of work. This mission is accomplished through employment services and training programs for people with all types of employment challenges. Services include Job Connection Centers to help people find jobs and advance their careers, employment services for adults and teens with disabilities, a literacy program for children from families with low incomes, and affordable apartments for seniors and people with disabilities.
