THE FESTIVAL OF SPEED This world-famous motoring garden party is a unique summer weekend that brings together an impossibly heady mix of cars, stars and motor sport ‘royalty’ – all set against the backdrop of Goodwood House. In the summer of 1936, the ninth Duke of Richmond, a famous racing driver, staged a private hillclimb for the Lancia Car Club on the winding road in front of Goodwood House. Taking that idea, in 1993 the Earl of March created the Festival of Speed. It is now the largest and greatest celebration of car culture in the world, where some of the rarest and most exotic cars gather to compete up Goodwood’s legendary 1.16-mile hill. The Moving Motor Show kicks off four superb days of racing and automotive extravaganzas. As a visitor to the event, you are surrounded by a visual feast with open car paddocks, state-of-the-art manufacturers’ stands, a prestigious car auction, a rally stage, air displays, entertainment enclosures and visitor attractions. Hospitality at the Festival of Speed offers front row seats at this motor racing picnic in the park. Options include the exclusive and private Library Lawn, the sought-after GP Club and a choice of trackside pavilions that provide balcony viewing directly alongside the hillclimb.
