FOREWORD

My family has lived, worked and entertained at Goodwood for over 300 years. Today, the estate is well established as a world leader in the staging of international sporting events and we have long held a reputation for excellence. This reputation is driven by our passion for all that we do and meticulous attention to detail.

We look forward to introducing you to our unusual mix of adventure, exclusivity and that certain something which sets Goodwood apart from the rest of the field – a balance of heritage and innovation that inspires the creation of exceptional and unique experiences.

BEING PART OF GOODWOOD

“THINGS AT GOODWOOD ARE ALWAYS DONE PROPERLY WITH AMAZING ATTENTION TO DETAIL; IN TODAY’S WORLD, THAT’S QUITE RARE.”
TALKTALK

Goodwood is a unique environment in which to develop business, entertain customers, make new contacts or reward and motivate team members. The estate’s mix of top-class sporting activities encompasses horseracing, motor racing, golf, flying, shooting and cricket. With an unrivalled reputation for superb hospitality and beautiful places to stay on the estate – including Hound Lodge, a luxury ten-bedroom private sporting retreat, and the 91-bedroom Goodwood Hotel –Goodwood can offer all you need in one outstanding setting where everything is done to the very highest standards.

GOODWOOD HOUSE

“GOODWOOD EMBODIES VEUVE CLICQUOT’S SPIRIT AND REPRESENTS THE MOST AUDACIOUS AND VIBRANT SOCIAL EXPERIENCES OF THE SEASON.”
JO THORNTON – PRESIDENT AND MANAGING DIRECTOR, MOËT HENNESSY EUROPE

Goodwood House has been the home of the Dukes of Richmond for over 300 years. Set at the heart of the 12,000-acre estate and surrounded by wooded parkland, the House has magnificent Regency interiors which form the backdrop to one of the country’s finest art collections. Paintings by artists such as Canaletto, George Stubbs, Sir Joshua Reynolds and Sir Anthony van Dyck hang above beautiful French and English furniture. Goodwood also houses one of the best collections of Sèvres porcelain in the world.

FESTIVAL OF SPEED

“MORE MOTORSPORT IN THREE DAYS THAN YOU CAN SEE IF YOU TRAVELLED THE WHOLE WORLD WITH A GRAND PRIX TEAM AND WATCHED EVERY GRAND PRIX.”

Festival of Speed is the world’s greatest celebration of car culture, featuring an exhilarating array of the rarest and most exotic machinery, from F1 to Nascar, Rally to Indy Car, Supercar to Extreme E racer.

Uniquely supported by current Formula 1 teams, the world’s most famous and accomplished drivers compete on Goodwood’s legendary 1.16 mile hill. Festival of Speed also takes a defining position on cutting-edge technology and the future of mobility, championing electric, connected and autonomous vehicles. At the centre of the event’s focus on emerging technologies is FOS Future Lab, an immersive exploration of world-changing innovations.

HORSERACING

“THE VIEWS, I HAVE TO SAY, ALWAYS BLOW ME AWAY, IT IS SO BEAUTIFUL.”

Goodwood has played host to the Sport of Kings for over 200 years. The third Duke of Richmond held the first public race meeting in 1802; ever since those early days, ‘Glorious Goodwood’ (as Raceweek became known) has been a firm fixture of the English summer season. King Edward VII, who attended every year, famously dubbed the festival meeting ‘a garden party with racing tacked on’. Today, the Racecourse overlooking the magnificent South Downs is renowned for the highest quality racing and is considered by many to be the most beautiful in the world.

CRICKET

“CRICKET AND GOODWOOD ARE SYNONYMOUS – LOOK MORE CLOSELY AND YOU SEE THE ROOTS OF CRICKET BEGINNING ITS JOURNEY.”

Ever since the first Duke of Richmond took up a bat in the seventeenth century, cricket has been an abiding passion of the Dukes of Richmond. The very first game of cricket was played at Goodwood as early as 1702 and Goodwood is famous for owning the earliest existing laws of cricket in the world, which were drawn up by the second Duke in 1727. His grandson, the fourth Duke, was an enthusiastic player and supported Thomas Lord in the founding of Lord’s Cricket Ground. The historic Goodwood ground is one of the most picturesque in the country and is located beside three great Cedars of Lebanon planted by the third Duke of Richmond in 1761.

GOLF

“GOODWOOD IS A WONDERFUL ENVIRONMENT IN WHICH TO PLAY GOLF. THE SETTING IS TRULY INSPIRATIONAL.”

JUSTIN ROSE – PROFESSIONAL GOLFER ON THE PGA AND EUROPEAN TOUR AND OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALIST

Golf has been played at Goodwood for over a century and the estate is home to two Championship golf courses: The Downs and The Park. The seventh Duke of Richmond’s children were keen golfers and commissioned acclaimed course designer and five-time Open Championship winner James Braid to create The Downs Course in 1914. The course has been completely restored and Braid’s original design is still played today, with his hallmark doglegged holes and challenging cross bunkering. It has been described as the finest downland course in Britain and is ranked as one of the Top 100 Golf Courses in England.

THE KENNELS

“THE KENNELS IS A FABULOUS VENUE – ALWAYS A WONDERFUL WARM WELCOME ON ARRIVAL FROM THE TEAM WHO MAKE YOU FEEL SO AT HOME: FROM START TO FINISH IT IS SECOND TO NONE AND THE LOCATION IS SUPERB.”

MILES KEAN – EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, COUTTS ENTREPRENEURS DIVISIO N

The Grade I listed building began life as the magnificent kennels for the third Duke of Richmond’s foxhounds. Built in 1787 by the celebrated architect, James Wyatt and designed as an ‘eye-catcher’ to be seen from Goodwood House, The Kennels boasted an ingenious central heating system to keep the hounds warm – a hundred years before guests in the house enjoyed the same luxury. Today, The Kennels is home to Goodwood’s Sporting Members. The interiors blend traditional taste and modern style; the walls are hung with pictures reflecting the family’s history and the various activities for which the estate is famous. Much of the food served at The Kennels comes directly from Goodwood’s own organic Home Farm.

REVIVAL

“IT’S LIKE WALKING BACK PERFECTLY INTO A BLACK AND WHITE PHOTOGRAPH – ONE OF THE WONDERS OF THE WORLD!”

Goodwood Revival is the world’s greatest historic motor race meeting. From cherished classic cars to beautifully preserved vintage clothes, Revival is by its very nature a celebration of exceptional craftsmanship and sustainability. Built by master craftsmen, the cars at the heart of the event have been carefully restored and preserved, with ownership often spanning generations – it’s only at Goodwood that spectators can see these cars of incredible value and historical significance do what they were built to do: race. The only motor sport event that invites guests to take a magical step back in time, Revival recreates the glory days of the Motor Circuit from 1948-1966. Amongst all the glamour and excitement, Revival’s ethos is thoroughly modern: reduce, reuse and recycle. Alongside immersive experiences that bring to life the ‘Revive and Thrive’ spirit of post-war Britain and celebrate secondhand treasures, Revival is all about ‘Vintage Style, Not Vintage Values’ and creating an environment where everyone feels welcome.

AVIATION

“I LOVE FLYING AT GOODWOOD, THERE’S ALWAYS SO MUCH GOING ON HERE. THERE’S NOWHERE ELSE LIKE IT.”
JAMES MARTIN – CHEF AND TV PERSONALITY

Aviation at Goodwood was established in the 1930s, born of the ninth Duke’s passion for flying. Freddie March, as he was then known, was a pioneering engineer who designed, built and flew many of his own aircraft from the flying field at Goodwood. By 1940, the Goodwood Aerodrome was created to assist the War effort. As RAF Westhampnett, it played a significant role as a frontline station during the Battle of Britain, hosted the first American fighter group to fly in the European Theatre and provided support for the D-Day landings.

With the airfield still in its original form, Goodwood continues to operate as a busy aerodrome and is home to a collection of warbirds and vintage aircraft.

MOTOR CIRCUIT

“IT’S A SUBLIME AND SURPRISING MOTOR CIRCUIT. AFTER ALL, KEN MILES AND PHIL HILL DEVELOPED OUR GT40 THERE AND US PRESIDENT BIDEN’S CORVETTE IS GOODWOOD GREEN. MOST OF ALL IT’S THE PEOPLE, RACING AT GOODWOOD IS ALWAYS A SPECIAL MOMENT WHEN THE WORLD STOPS.”

The Goodwood Motor Circuit began life as a wartime airfield. At the end of the Second World War, the airfield’s perimeter track became the famous racing circuit that we know today. Thanks to the ninth Duke of Richmond’s passion for motorsport, Goodwood was the spiritual home of British motor racing between 1948 and 1966, playing host to some of the greatest drivers of all time. The Motor Circuit has been restored but remains in its original form – the only classic race track in the world to do so – and is considered one of the world’s fastest and most challenging circuits. Today you can have the unique experience of measuring lap times against greats such as Jim Clark and Sir Stirling Moss.

SHOOTING

“ANOTHER INCREDIBLE GOODWOOD DAY. IT WAS SPECTACULAR – BRILLIANT DRIVES AND VARIETY OF BIRDS – AND SOMEHOW YOU MANAGE TO MAKE IT

BETTER

WITH EACH YEAR.”

TIM WISE – FORMER

Goodwood has been hosting shooting parties for over two centuries. A painting by the celebrated artist, George Stubbs, shows the third Duke of Richmond’s brother-in-law and cousin shooting partridge over pointers on the estate in 1759. Set high on the Sussex Downs, the Goodwood shoot includes the valleys of Molecomb, well known for pheasant drives, and the rolling downland by the Racecourse, presenting high quality partridge.

The Goodwood shoot team also create stunning simulated game drives presenting a variety of winged game. The team of loaders coach each individual gun during the simulated drives, closely mimicking the experience of game shooting.

MEMBERS’ MEETING

“THERE’S A REAL GOODWOOD SPIRIT, THERE’S A REAL UNDERSTANDING OF THE HISTORY OF GOODWOOD.

THE CAMARADERIE, WHICH IS CLEARLY LED BY THE DUKE HIMSELF, IS A JOY TO BEHOLD. IT’S A WONDERFUL CELEBRATION OF THE AUTOMOBILE.”

The Goodwood Members’ Meeting is an invitation-only weekend of motor racing action and fabulous entertainment, run exclusively for the members of the Goodwood Road Racing Club and their guests. A recreation of the atmosphere and camaraderie of the original BARC Members’ Meetings held at Goodwood throughout the 1950s and 1960s, the weekend features all kinds of cars from classic tin-tops and GTs to motorcycles and open wheeled Formula 3 and F1 machines.

Once the chequered flag falls on Saturday’s final race, the sound of engines is replaced by a rousing drumbeat and the night begins to glow with the warmth of fire pits, welcoming guests to Goodwood’s biggest outdoor party, with a buzzing food market, live music and breath-taking fireworks.

THE GOODWOOD HOTEL

“OUR REVIEWERS SELECTED THE GOODWOOD HOTEL AS ONE OF THE BEST HOTELS IN THE COUNTRY. THE ANNUAL SUNDAY TIMES BEST PLACES TO STAY FEATURES

THE VERY BEST BRITISH HOTELS AND HAS BECOME THE GOLD STANDARD OF THE INDUSTRY.”

DUNCAN CRAIG – TRAVEL EDITOR, THE TIMES AND THE SUNDAY TIMES

Set at the heart of the estate, the Goodwood Hotel began as an eighteenthcentury coaching inn. It was formerly known as The Waterbeach as centuries earlier the sea once reached this far. Built by the third Duke of Richmond, the inn welcomed many guests visiting Goodwood for Raceweek, cricket matches, shooting and various sporting and social occasions. The inn was located next to the seven-acre walled garden which supplied vegetables and cut flowers to the House. Across the road were three cock-pits for the popular sport of cock-fighting before it was banned in 1849.

Today’s hotel houses 91 beautifully decorated bedrooms and suites, a health club, spa and Goodwood’s award-winning sustainable restaurant Farmer, Butcher, Chef.

FOOD

“THE CHEFS AT GOODWOOD ARE LUCKY TO HAVE THIS INCREDIBLE PRODUCE LITERALLY ON THEIR DOORSTEP.

IT’S LOVELY TO SEE THE TEAM AT FARMER, BUTCHER, CHEF EMBRACING SUCH A GREAT FOOD STORY.”

TOM KERRIDGE – MICHELIN-STARRED CHEF

Farmed by the Dukes of Richmond for over 300 years, Goodwood has an enduring reputation for outstanding produce. Susan, Duchess of Richmond and Gordon was one of the Soil Association’s earliest members; her passion for organic farming was passed on to her family. Goodwood’s Home Farm is now the largest lowland organic farm in the UK and also one of the only self-sustaining organic farms in Europe. The farm covers 4,000 acres and rears Sussex beef cattle, Dairy Shorthorn cows, Southdown lambs and Saddleback and Gloucester

Old Spot pigs.

Located just yards away and involved in every aspect of production from farm to table, our restaurant Farmer, Butcher, Chef is a showcase for Home Farm’s exceptional produce and Goodwood’s sustainable food philosophy.

HOUND LODGE

“GETTING AWAY FROM IT ALL ISN’T EASY BUT AT HOUND LODGE IT’S ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE NOT TO FEEL A SENSE OF PEACE.”

Formerly the kennels for the Goodwood Hunt when it was revived in Victorian times, Hound Lodge is a luxury ten-bedroom sporting lodge that has undergone an extensive refurbishment.

Situated in tranquil ancient woodland, Hound Lodge is the ultimate retreat, offering an escape from the pace of modern life and the perfect base from which to experience all Goodwood has to offer. With its own dedicated staff always on hand, Hound Lodge guests enjoy complete privacy; the butler ensures all needs are taken care of and the chef prepares delicious food featuring the estate’s award-winning organic produce. Each room is beautifully furnished with unique, hand-picked pieces and the comfortable interiors reflect Goodwood’s sporting heritage.
