Traffic Management Residents Briefing Qatar Goodwood Festival Tuesday 30 July – Saturday 3 August 2024 Before the Event There will be a steady buildup of transport ferrying essential event infrastructure to the grounds of Goodwood Racecourse in the last few weeks prior to the event. This will gradually increase the closer we get to the event weekend. This transport is directed from the A27 along Madgwick Lane and Claypit Lane up Kennel Hill to the main racecourse service entrance of Goodwood Racecourse on Selhurst Park Road. Normal traffic will not be affected in the lead up to the event. During the Event: The event parking plan necessitates much of our grounds bordering the racecourse are utilised for public vehicles. In the interest of public safety several roads are subject to formal Road Closures Notices, whilst the event is live. These are as follows: • •
Selhurst Park Road from the Junction of Kennel Hill to the Pillygreen Crossroads. Pook Lane from the Junction of Kennel Hill to East Lavant. Access for residents and the Royal Oak guests only.
The roads will be closed daily from 0730hrs until 2000hrs. The closures are subject to implementation by Sussex Police and our Traffic Management Partner, Special Events Parking (SEP), and on occasion the closures are lifted when traffic is deemed as light. We recommend that you avoid the road closures wherever possible. Information The traffic will be moderate during the week following the event and traffic movements will fall away rapidly after that. Normal use of these routes will be unaffected during this time. Liaison: The aim of Goodwood Racecourse is to keep the impact of the event on the local community to an absolute minimum but, as you can appreciate, hosting an International Event on this scale leads to some logistical issues. Throughout the year we host a series of meetings and work closely with the Local Authorities, Highway Network Services, the Emergency services, Stagecoach, our public transport provider and the Local Parish Councils to ensure that the traffic management of the event is as effective and as efficient as possible. If you have any questions, please direct them in the first instance to the Ticket Office on 01243 755055.
