FOREWORD The 77th Goodwood Members’ Meeting was, I am delighted to report, another great success. Moving the event into April, after last year’s blizzards, gave us two days of spring sunshine and, despite threatening on Sunday, the rain stayed away. I hope you all had as fantastic a time as I did. It has been most gratifying to watch the Members’ Meeting mature over the last six years. Together with our partners, we have created a very special and exclusive event to start our motorsport season. Our GRRC Members and Fellows filled the grandstands and lined the trackside fences, a capacity crowd contributing to what was a tremendous atmosphere over the two days.
77 TH GOODWOOD MEMBERS’ MEETING 2 019
The 77th Meeting continued to uphold the traditions of racing at Goodwood established 70 years ago by my Grandfather. It’s amazing to see all the drivers, riders, team owners, mechanics, and our Members, sharing this experience. The off-track House activities remain an important part of the weekend and, thanks to our Governors, “fair play and sportsmanship” were once again seen to be upheld. We saw some absolutely thrilling new races: the Betty Richmond Trophy for Minis, named after my Grandmother, and the John Duff Trophy, for vintage sports racing cars, were especially memorable. We enjoyed dramatic high-speed demos by wonderful Le Mans Prototypes, BMW Procars and NASCAR as well as a very special collection of McLarens including the sensational new Senna GTR. The Porsche Museum brought a truly fabulous collection of 917s to celebrate the model’s 50th anniversary, featuring the very first car, chassis 001, from 1969. Drivers included Porsche’s first Le Mans winner, Richard Attwood, and 2015 World Endurance Champion Mark Webber. Away from the track action Nicolas Minassian led Aubigny to a hugely popular victory in the House Shield competition, their first ever win. I am so grateful for the role you played at this year’s event. I thoroughly enjoyed my laps with Nick in the Aurelia, and the Battista was a real star attraction. Hopefully we can have it back next year running on track! I look forward to seeing you back at Goodwood very soon.
