73 GOODWOOD MEMBERS’ MEETING RD

21-22 MARCH 2015

“ THANK YOU FOR HELPING BRING THE FAMOUS GOODWOOD MEMBERS’ MEETING BACK IN SPECTACULAR STYLE” EARL OF MARCH

WELCOME NOTE Whether or not you were able to join us at the 72nd Goodwood Members’ Meeting, we hope that you will enjoy this commemorative booklet and DVD. The event recreated the famous Goodwood Members’ Meetings of the past, but with a thoroughly modern twist. Everyone enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere, crowd-free spectating and superb racing as the spring sun sparkled over the cars on the track all weekend long. And as for the festivities on Saturday evening – they have already entered Goodwood folklore! No sooner had the dust settled than we began planning the 73rd Members’ Meeting, which will be held over the weekend of 21-22 March 2015. In this booklet you’ll find information on many of the exciting attractions that we’ve already lined up. Tickets for the event are sure to sell fast, which is why we’re offering you the chance to purchase them at your earliest convenience. You can find out how to do that at the back of this booklet – but not before you’ve relived the magic of the 72nd Members’ Meeting on the DVD. It was a very special weekend, and we look forward to seeing you all again in March 2015.

AN EVENT LIKE NO OTHER ‘This is cool, because it’s about access-all-areas for everyone,’ enthused DJ and motor sport connoisseur Chris Evans, perfectly summing up the sublimely relaxed and wonderfully convivial atmosphere of the 72nd Members’ Meeting. That ambience – of like-minded friends enjoying a weekend of epic motor racing, high-speed track demonstrations, wonderful food and drink, fun-packed festivities and great entertainment – will also set Whether you’re watching the racing, strolling through the paddocks, or enjoying the evening festivities, the weekend offers non-stop entertainment

the tone for the 73rd Members’ Meeting. As in 2014, the competition won’t be restricted to the track. Every Member and guest, including the drivers, can score points for their House – Methuen, Aubigny, Torbolton and Darnley – led by honorary House Captains Anthony Reid, Nicolas Minassian, Emanuele Pirro and Jochen Mass. You can take part in activities ranging from tug-of-war to caravan towing to score points for your House – or you can just relax and enjoy the racing. Everyone will mingle in the Great Hall, just one of the many food-serving points that will be enhanced for 2015. And all, of course, are welcome to our now-famous Saturday evening festivities, which climax with a spectacular fireworks display.

The Members’ Meeting provides a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere and superb, crowd-free spectating

The very popular and hugely entertaining Gerry Marshall Trophy will return in 2015

THE RACES Twelve races packed with head-turning cars sit at the heart of the 73rd Members’ Meeting. Highlights will include Saturday evening’s Graham Hill Trophy, a race for early-1960s GT cars from the likes of Jaguar, Ferrari and Aston Martin. At the halfway point, the cars will charge into the pits for a driver change, before powering on into twilight with headlights ablaze. For the first time at Goodwood, there will be a race dedicated The eclectic mix of machinery in action at the 73rd Members’ Meeting will include pre-1935 GP cars, and priceless early-1960s GT cars

exclusively to Porsche 911s. A line-up of post-1966 Formula 3 single-seaters, resplendent in their original liveries, will provide another racing highlight, as will the McLaren Trophy, which will see an impressive collection of 1960s sports racers do battle. Pre-1935 GP cars, meanwhile, will compete for the Bira Trophy. The Hawthorn Trophy will focus on front-engined F1 and F2 cars, while sports racers such as the Jaguar D-Type and Maserati Tipo 61 Birdcage will take to the track in the Salvadori Cup. And, returning by popular demand, the Gerry Marshall Trophy will include a host of tyre-smoking, crowd-pleasing 1970s and 1980s Group 1 production saloon cars such as the Ford Capri, Triumph Dolomite Sprint and Rover 3500 SD1.

Turbo-era Grand Prix cars starred at the 72nd Members’ Meeting. Expect a similarly exciting array of out-of-period cars in 2015

From Group B rally cars to horses and hounds, the Motor Circuit has never played host to such a diverse mix as it did at the 72nd Members’ Meeting – and our ‘grid walks’ meant that visitors also got a chance to walk on the hallowed tarmac

HIGH-SPEED DEMOS The cars in the high-speed demonstrations create just as much spectacle as the racing, and no wonder: at the 72nd Members’ Meeting, for example, no less than three ex-Ayrton Senna F1 cars could be seen in action. At the 73rd Members’ Meeting we will hold a special party for the McLaren F1 GTR, with the largest gathering of F1 GTRs ever assembled on track, to mark the 20th anniversary of the car’s epic 1995 Le Mans win. High-speed demonstrations will celebrate 20 years of the McLaren F1 GTR, and the glorious Group C cars of the 1980s

We will also celebrate the Grand Prix era in which James Hunt brought a rock’n’roll attitude to the sport at the wheel of the Hesketh 308. You can also expect to see cars like the McLaren M23, with which Emerson Fittipaldi took the drivers’ crown and McLaren the manufacturers’ title in ’74; and the Ferrari 312 T, in which Niki Lauda dominated the ’75 season. The wild 250mph Group C sports cars will make a welcome return to the Members’ Meeting, featuring marques such as Aston Martin, Jaguar, Mazda, Mercedes and Porsche. And, on the subject of wild, keep an eye out for the course cars – at the Members’ Meeting, we don’t miss any opportunity to treat visitors to some automotive exotica.

‘High-airbox’ F1 cars from the 1970s will tackle the Motor Circuit at speed

Saturday’s racing may be over, but as the darkness descends over Goodwood, our biggest party of the year gets under way

THE FESTIVITIES The original 71 Goodwood Members’ Meetings placed as much emphasis on socialising as on racing – and for the modern interpretation of the Members’ Meeting, we’ve taken that to a whole new level. As the chequered flag fell on the final race of Saturday evening at the 72nd Members’ Meeting, the sound of engines was replaced by a rousing drumbeat welcoming guests to the most spectacular party ever held at Goodwood, with All the fun of the fair, and much more besides – the Members’ Meeting Saturday evening festivities are an explosion of music, colour and revelry

a near endless array of entertainment for visitors of all ages. Festoons of coloured lights and warming braziers marked out a winding street upon which paraded marching bands, roving street entertainers, a fire-breathing mechanical horse and much, much more. A vintage steam fair, a Wall of Death, a circus Big Top and a host of bands and dance acts created a terrific atmosphere – and for the 73rd Members’ Meeting, we are determined to raise the bar even higher! Good food, good drink and good company are all key factors of the Members’ Meeting, and in 2015 we will go to even greater efforts to provide a superb range of high-quality refreshments served from multiple venues.
