MARCUS LUTTRELL RETIRED U.S. NAVY SEAL MONDAY

Marcus Luttrell is a retired U.S. Navy SEAL and author of the book Lone Survivor, in which he tells the harrowing tale of a fierce battle in eastern Afghanistan in 2005. Luttrell was born and raised in Texas. In March 1999 he joined the United States Navy. In June 2005, Luttrell and his team were taken by surprise in eastern Afghanistan. An MH-47 Chinook helicopter was dispatched with a force of SEALs and 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment “Night Stalkers� to rescue the team, but the helicopter was shot down and all 16 men aboard it lost their lives. Luttrell was the sole survivor that day. Badly wounded, he managed to walk and crawl seven miles to safety. Since returning from war, Luttrell has started the Lone Survivor Foundation and become involved with The Boot Campaign. He also has written a second book, Service, which gives honor and praise to all members of the military. Marcus and his wife, Melanie, have a son, Axe, and a daughter, Addie.
