GENERAL CARE

2 - Basic maintenance and cleaning according to handover package. - Daily observational inspections by playground operator. - Remove hazards from play area. 11

PLAYGROUND OPERATOR DUTIES Your new playground equipment has been designed and constructed to minimize the risk of injury to users by reference to the relevant sections of playground standards: AS 4685:2014 and NZS 5828:2015. As the operator of the playground, it is your duty to assess, maintain and if necessary, improve your play area. This includes not only the playground equipment but also the site, natural features and built landscape. These areas are deemed to be part of the playground and as such should also be kept as hazard free as possible. Please note: If a problem that may be considered unsafe for users is discovered during the course of inspections, the playground should be closed immediately and not used until repairs have been made. If you are unsure about the safety of your playground, we recommend that you close the playground and seek advice from Goplay.

GENERAL USAGE GUIDELINES • The playground is designed for use by children aged 3 – 12 years. • Children must be supervised by an adult guardian or carer at all times. • Users must not be allowed to climb on the outside of the play equipment or perimeter fence. • Users must not use the equipment with bare feet - This can lead to friction burn or other injuries. - It also creates a hazard whereby children may access parts of the equipment (in particular slides) in the incorrect manner and/or direction resulting in injury to themselves or others. • Users are to slide feet first in a sitting position and exit the slide once they have stopped. • All hard, sharp, loose or dangerous objects (such as buckles, studs, pins, necklaces and brooches) which may catch, cut or scratch the play equipment or other users should be removed before using the equipment for the prolonged life of all equipment and safety of all play equipment users.

14

GENERAL USAGE GUIDELINES • The play equipment and play areas must be supervised at a level which allows all users to enjoy the experience without incidents resulting from misuse, overcrowding, rough play or bullying. • Food or drink must not be consumed whilst using the play equipment or in the play area. • Environmental conditions such as sun and rain may affect the usability of the equipment. In areas where the equipment may be exposed to excessive sun or rain, a shade sail or permanent cover is advisable. • The installation of safety signage is recommended. • Goplay is not liable for any injuries that have occurred from using the playground contrary to our recommendations. Failure of playground operator to uphold these general usage guidelines will result in the relinquishment of Goplay’s liability.

INSPECTIONS Your new playground has the added benefit of being low maintenance. Whilst the equipment will require minimal maintenance, inspections should be carried out on a regular basis in order to ensure that equipment is in correct running order. There are several factors that will affect how frequently your inspections and maintenance checks need to be carried out. Some factors include: • • • •

High level of use Coastal location Older equipment Lower levels of supervision

On the following pages you will find an inspection timetable listing the items on your playground equipment that should be checked at each inspection. We have also included an example routine inspection sheet to help you get your inspection schedule up and running.

18

INSPECTIONS We recommend the following schedule of inspections in order to keep a properly maintained play area.

Routine Inspection This should be carried out each day prior to use, or once in every 24 hour cycle. Visual inspections should identify obvious hazards such as foreign objects and dirty or damaged parts. This can be carried out by a member of staff.

Operational Inspection This is a more detailed inspection to check the operation and stability of the equipment, in particular for wear. This should be carried out by a Goplay Playground Auditor.

Comprehensive Inspection A comprehensive inspection should be carried out annually. This is done to establish the overall safety of the equipment, foundations and surfaces. This will also assess any change in the safety of the equipment resulting from repairs made, or from added/replaced components. This should be carried out by a Goplay Playground Auditor.

It is recommended that your Playground Auditor: • Is a certified and experienced Playground Auditor and Safety Inspector. • Has extensive knowledge of the playground standards. • Is fully insured (Professional Indemnity and Public Liability minimum 5 million AUD).

REPAIRS AND ALTERATIONS It may be necessary during the life of your equipment to make repairs or alterations. Please consider the following before making any changes to your Goplay playground.
