On enlistment wife’s address was same as Father-in-law, later changed to c/Allan Moore Esq. “Mitchin” Fairlight St. Manly, NSW.

RED CROSS REPORT

Informant Pte D J Flynn 2814 40th Btn D Coy 14th Pltn. 3rd A A Hpl Dartford 31.12.1917 I saw him Killed at Ypres. He was caught by a shell & very badly knocked about, death being instantaneous.” Informant;- Lt Reginald Chas Walters 40th AIF B Co. 5 Pl 3rd London General Hosp, Wadsworth 7.12.1917 I was told by the Coy Commander & men of the platoon that Atkins was killed in the Assembly trench on 4/10/1917. he was buried in the neighbourhood of Passchendaele. Informant;- Cpl R C Shoobridge 2764 40th Btn D Coy. Atkins is my cousin & in B Coy. I hear he was killed at Brood ????. I have a letter from Mrs Isabel Atkins (22 Upper Belgrave Rd. Clifton, Bristol) telling me that Atkins is buried at Levi Cottage, near Zonnebeeke (Letter produced & particulars read.) Place of burial ¾ of a mile N. of Zonnebeeke Village (map reading D.15d.O.O) CERTIFIED by Div Burials Officer 3rd Aust. Div Fauquembergues.





SYDNEY MORING HERALD NOVEMBER 10TH 1917. P14. Mr A.S. Atkins has received news that her husband, Corporal Arthur S. Atkins, Was killed in action in France on October 4. He left Tasmania in December 1916.
