Gosford Times 14th June 1917 ROLL OF HONOR HAMMOND-Killed in action in France on 15th May,1917. Alfred James, youngest son of Mr and Mrs C Hammond, of Somersby, Penang Mt. Aged 24 years
Gosford Times 14th June 1917 Killed In Action Corporal A J Hammond, aged 24, youngest son of Mr and Mrs C Hammond, of Somersby, Penang Mt., is reported to have been killed in action on 15th May in France. He enlisted with D Company and sailed from Sydney on 17th December, 1915. From Egypt he was sent to France. Mr and Mrs Hammond have reason to be proud of the part they have played in assisting the Empire in its fight for life. Three of their sons got into khaki, and one has just been killed in the heroic fight against the enemy on the western front. Charles is at present in Egypt, and James is doing his bit in France. We all sympathize deeply with Mr and Mrs Hammond in the death of their soldier son.
Gosford Times 18th October 1917 Private Thomas Richard French, of Gosford, is reported to have died of wounds on 16 th September. Corporal Alfred James Hammond, of Penang Mountain, was killed in action on 20th September. Both fatalities are officially recorded in this week's casualty list.
Gosford Times 15th May 1919 HAMMOND – In loving memory of my dear son. Corporal Alfred James Hammond, killed in action May 15, 1917;For ever at rest, His duty nobly done. Inserted by his loving father.
