WILL CORRESPONDENCE
Miss L Stokes, Gov Hospital Northam, WA. Father.
Gosford Times 28th May 1915 KULNURA (From our Correspondent) Another volunteer for the front from our small community is Mr Will Harris, late of Tamworth. We hold the distinction of having sent and offered more than one seventh of our population to the war. This is owing to so many of the residents being able bodied young men. We all feel very proud of those joining the forces for Europe.
Gosford Times 3rd May 1917 Another regrettable death is that of acting Corporal Harris, who died of wounds in France on April 19 th, aged 26 years. He was the only son of Mr J Harris, of Kulnura.
Sydney Morning Herald 8th May 1917 pg 6 Roll of Honor Harris- Died of wounds in France, April 19, 1917, Acting-corporal W L C Harris, only son of Mr and the late Mrs J Harris, of Pomona, Kulnura, Aged 26 years. For freedom's cause he died.
Gosford Times 31st May 1917 KULNURA (From Our Correspondent) On Sunday afternoon last a Memorial Service was held at Kulnura for the soldiers of the district who had lately fallen at the war, viz., Wm L C Harris, Bert Grey, Norman John Gibson, Mayson Penn, and M Whitehead. The service was conducted by Rev S Wedge, of Gosford. It was largely attended, and impressive in character. Mr. W H Kelynack ably presided at the organ. A short resume of the life of each departed soldier was read, and reference made to the sterling worth of each one’s character, and at the conclusion of the service the “Dead March” in Saul was played whilst all remained silently standing, after which the National Anthem was sung. The service and its solemnity will long be remembered by those who attended.
