Gosford Times 25th January 1917 KILLED IN ACTION. News was received last week that Sergeant Cliff Love had fallen in France on December 24th. Sergeant Love, with his brother, was for some time engaged in orcharding on Mangrove Mt. He enlisted on the outbreak of war, and was wounded at Gallipoli. After recovering from his wounds he did police duties in Egypt and then returned to Australia as escort. After a few weeks furlough here, he again obeyed the call and sailed for France with the rank of Sergeant, and had only been a few weeks in the firing line when he fell. Sergeant Love has two brothers at present on active service. After two years and five months’ service he gave his life for the cause of Freedom and Justice.
Gosford Times 13th June 1918 RETURNED FROM WAR. Sergeant A.J. Love has returned from the war after 3 years 5 months’ active service, 18 months od which he spent in Egypt and Gallipoli (where he was wounded) and 20 months in the trenches in France, where he came through without a scratch, but was allowed to come home for family reasons. He lost his brothers in France, Cliff (who enlisted from mangrove Mt) being killed in action on 24th December, 1915, while fighting on the Somme, and the other brother died after an operation for appendicitis. Prior to enlisting Sergeant Love owned to local news agency, but on the sad death of his wife he sold out to Mr Holmes and went to war. While at Gosford he was a very popular man, and we are all glad to see him back safe and sound.
