Gosford Times 22nd October 1915 ERINA (From Our Correspondent) The younf men of this locally are still enlisting, realizing their country’s need, and facing their responsibilities. Wamberal, Terrigal, Matcham and Erina have bidden farewell to their stalwart sons, and on Tuesday half a dozen more went to offer themselves on their country’s altar. In every case local residents have wished them God spead, andhave supplied them with various useful articles. One of the latest send oofs was to Fred Weiss, son of the local schoolmaster, who at a surprise party was given a sheepskin vest, a filled pocket wallet, and handkerchiefs. The Matcham Red Cross Society also presented him and his brother, Erle Weiss (at present in camp at Holsworthy) with hand knitted woolen mufflers. Speeeches suitable to the occasion were made by Messrs Smalley, Coulson and King, and the recipient suitably responded, thanking the donors, and stating that he would endeavor to do his duty, and to keep up the prestige of the British race. A bountiful supply of good things was done full justice, and after a pleasant evening the party dispersed. Prior to enlisting, Mr F. Weiss was engaged as assistant teacher at West Wyalong Public School.
Gosford Times 27th September 1917 ROLL OF HONOR. Private F.A. Weiss, of the 53rd Battalion, son of Mr W.H. Weiss, of Erina, has been officially reported as killed on 19th July, 1916.
