Gosford Times 30th August 1917 Private Cleveland Whitpaine, aged 19, youngest son of Mr C. Whitpaine, of The Entrance, is reported to have been killed in action in France on 29th July. He was previously reported missing.
Gosford Times 6th September 1917 IN MEMORIUM WHITPAINE – Killed in action in France, July 29th 1916 (previously reported missing), Private Cleveland Whitpaine, aged 19 years, youngest son of Mr C. Whitpaine, The Entrance. Oh, why was he taken so young and so fair. When earth holds so many it could better spare; God bless the spot where darling Cleve lies, Away from our midst near the French foreign skies.
