If you want to change the world, it helps to have lived there Goshen’s Study-Service Term (SST) is one of the longest-running study abroad programs in the country. The semesterlong program emphasizes total cultural immersion in a developing country and is divided into two distinct parts: The first half involves intense language and cultural studies, usually in the nation’s capital, and you’ll spend the second half in a more remote area working on a volunteer service project. Wherever you go, you’ll stay with host families and absorb day-to-day life as a member of the community. Not only will you grow personally as you are pushed out of your comfort zone in the best ways possible, but you will also gain experiences and understanding that will positively set you apart as you seek future jobs or graduate school acceptance.
