MEET KATE SEOW, FOUNDER OF PROSECCO & RUBIES “Jewellery is always very personal and unique, steeped in meaning and memories, but it can be hard to find that special, one-of-a-kind piece on the High Street.”

Kate Seow is a jewellery designer-maker based in Yarm and a self-confessed gemstone addict. From collecting anything sparkly at a young age, it wasn’t long before she started making jewellery.

“I’m always happy when I’m creating things,” she says. It wasn’t until Kate suffered the personal tragedy of losing her Mum very suddenly a couple of years ago that she decided to take the plunge and turn her lifelong passion into a business.

Established in 2018, Prosecco & Rubies is Kate’s way of celebrating her Mum’s life by making beautiful handmade silver and gemstone jewellery. Each piece is inspired by the natural beauty of the gemstones and the effects that are created through traditional silversmithing techniques. As a Mum herself, Kate is acutely aware of the impact we are having on our planet and what we are leaving to our children. For this reason, she takes steps to make her business as sustainable as possible. Where available, she uses 100% recycled silver, sources her gemstones from companies that have high ethical standards and uses nearly 100% recycled and recyclable materials in her packaging. She is also a Fairtrade Registered Goldsmith for those occasions that she is asked to work with gold. “It’s not about being perfect, it’s about doing what you can and building on that.”

You can find Prosecco & Rubies in the Pop-Up Shop, Yarm High Street, on the first Saturday of every month, as well as at craft fairs, wedding fairs and events across the region and beyond. Visit Prosecco & Rubies’ Facebook page for the latest news and events.

As a result, every piece is unique. She currently offers three jewellery collections and is working on a fourth, but the main service that Kate provides is working with her to design special, bespoke jewellery.
