Bobby Latheron’s new book “My World In My Words” shines a light on what it is like to live with autism and aims to open people’s eyes about the effects of their actions. 24 year old Bobby from Middlesbrough wasn’t diagnosed until he was 13. He received relentless bullying at school and found it hard to make friends, Bobby recalls upsetting times when he would “act the clown” when his classmates told him to in an attempt to make friends. “There was name-calling at school, students would get me to do stupid things. I didn’t know what to do to make friends. So I would do those stupid things.” The bullying greatly effected Bobby’s mental health and caused him to change schools. Unfortunately Bobby found that the bullying and discrimination continued into his adult life. On a recent trip to America with local charity Autism Matters, the group Bobby was travelling with encountered abuse from other passengers. Bobby used writing and creating music as an outlet for his feelings. Regularly working with Carl Pemberton from Journey South to record his music. Bobby’s songs cover a wide range of themes, ranging from life with autism through to relationships - his discography is full of themes that are relatable for lots of people. Bobby is motivated to tell people what it is like living with autism and to encourage more people to speak out to gain a better understanding of the condition. Bobby hopes that he can inspire others who have autism as well as teaching everyone about the importance of kindness and patience. You can purchase Bobby’s book from Amazon and from Waterstones.
