2020 - THE 80’S REVIVAL Even though 2020 is a brand new decade, it seems that the runways are looking back in time for inspiration. The 2010’s had a heavy focus on 90’s trends, whereas 2020 is looking to the 80’s for divine fashion inspiration.

Bold, bright and striking makeup is a must have for any fashionista, models faces are being adorned with as much colour as possible, tastefully clashing tones of electric blue and fuchsia are exceedingly popular. However this trend has been given a slight update for this new resurgence, colourful shadow is used only on the inner corner of the eye to add vibrancy without being too intense. Sweep a bronze shade over your lid and pop a neon shade on the inner corner and finish with mascara for a fresh take on 80’s eye makeup.

Power dressing is back and bigger than ever. The business suit topped with shoulder pads has been given a revamp - suit jacket style dresses are a popular choice, the subtle shoulders and crisp tailoring gives the wearer a strong silhouette. Shoulder pads are back but they have been given a more precise sharp edge to create an almost futuristic look.

The key to a 80’s revival look is jewel tones and combining different patterns and colours in one look. Don’t be afraid of wearing multiple colours, fabrics and patterns in one outfit, it all about being bold and vibrant.

Modern perms are done using bigger rollers to give an effortless beachy look. Perms aren’t just gaining popularity with women, men are moving away from the slicked back Peaky Blinders style cut, opting for a perm on the top of the head to give a messy look.

As well as makeup, hair and fashion, vintage perfumes are also having their moment. Launched in 1977, YSL Opium was a must have fragrance in the 80’s. The rich deep musk scent was intoxicating and exotic. The spicy intense scent was given a revival for a new audience with the launch of Black Opium in 2014, a nod to the original fragrance. The 2000’s had a heavy emphasis on sweet smelling, fresh scents whereas 2020 is all about musky power statement perfume - think Giorgio Beverly Hills and Calvin Klein Obsession. Scents can bring back so many memories, why not go back to your favourite fragrance you wore growing up to experience some nostalgia.
