As a reminder, all members are asked to participate. Helping with Dakotafest is mandatory if you are selling at the Excellence Sale and/or the Watertown Winter Farm Show.

If you or any businesses you know are interested in pre-printed meal tickets for customers I can print and mail tickets for your dispersal prior to Dakotafest or for pickup at the event.

South Dakota Hereford Tour

September 27-29, 2021 | Central South Dakota We’re looking forward to seeing many of our members once again at this year’s Hereford Tour! Attached is the information and registration form. Please fill it out and send it to Allie Jensen.

2021 Summer Shows Due to the fire in the Open Class Beef Barn, the State Fair schedule had to condense, which didn’t allow time for the Hereford Special or the Hereford Futurity show. It also changed the date of the open shows. While we won’t have one big “Hereford Show Day” at the State Fair, we hope that you’ll still enjoy watching and supporting our youth at these separate events! ______________________

Hereford Special + Futurity Hereford Special & Futurity moved to the SD Summer Spotlight Show Sunday, July 25, 2021 at 9:00AM CST 4-H Beef Complex, South Dakota State Fairgrounds Entry Deadline: Wednesday, July 21, 2021 www.FairEntry.com Show info, registration, rules: www.SouthDakotaHerefords.org SHOW ORDER (one following the other): Heifer Special, Heifer Futurity, Steer Special, Steer Futurity Awards: Special & Futurity Champion Heifer & Steer receive $1,000, Reserve Champion Heifer & Steer receive $500. Each exhibit will receive a class payout during the Special. *New for this year is a generous donation from the family of Doyle Crane. They are donating $200 for every heifer that shows in the futurity in Doyle’s memory* Special Judge: Taylor Frank, from El Dorado, Kansas Futurity Judge: Matt Johnson, from Garretson, South Dakota

Carcass Contest: ALL Special steers are required to participate in the Carcass Contest. They’ll be ultra-sounded on Friday, July 23, 2021 from 7:00-9:00AM on the east side of the 4-H Beef Complex. Awards will be announced during the Steer Show on Sunday, July 25, 2021. Entry is $20 and exhibitors can be entered for it while entering online for the Special Show. The top 10 steers are paid out at $500, $400, $300, $200, $100, $90, $80, $75, $50, $40.

South Dakota State Fair Open Show Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at 8:00AM CST 4-H Beef Complex, South Dakota State Fairgrounds Due to the fire in the Open Class Beef Barn, the Hereford Open Show will be in the south ring of the 4-H Livestock Complex.

Check-in is Monday, August 30, 2021 3:00-8:00pm at the southwest doors of the Nordby 4-H Exhibit Hall. Please check the SD State Fair Beef Exhibitor Handbook for more information.

County Fair & Rate of Gain Champions Can this image with your smartphone camera to be taken directly to the SDHA website!

If your child has a Hereford steer, heifer or feeder calf that is the Overall Breeds County Champion or Over All County Rate of Gain Champion at your County Fair this summer, SDHA will award them $100! For further info on either of these awards, please contact Allie Jensen or visit www.southdakotaherefords.org for the required form.

SD Junior Hereford Assoc. Activities 2021 Field Days June 11-12, 2021 | Watertown, South Dakota We had a great turnout for the two-day event with 47 junior members participating. There were 81 head of cattle exhibited. There were 77 entries in contests that included Extemporaneous Speech, Future Professionals, Illustrated Speech, Poster, Photography, Individual and Team Sales, Fitting, Queen, Showmanship, and Obstacle Course.
