2024 Fox Hollow Farms : : Fall Sale

Page 1

Friends and Cattlemen,

The time has come once again for our Annual Fall Production. I can’t believe that this is Volume 5 already, it seems like just the other day we were trying to put together the first sale. I am very proud of this offering, from top to bottom, it is the best collection of FH genetics we have offered to date. A lot of work, mating decisions and planning went into these cattle. It’s nice to go through the pastures and realize we are reaching our goals in seedstock production, and the bulls and females in Volume 5 are the best example to date of the product we working to produce.

It has been an eventful year. I changed our management strategy to a fall calving program because it fits our environment and it’s nice to calve out of the mud and winter elements. We incorporated some new genetics, by purchasing an interest in SKS Super Puncher 423K, who went on to be selected National Champion in Louisville. His first calves have me excited, and some of the best in the fall pair division of our sale. We have the first calf crop with numbers from our FH-MCR Free Lunch 947 bull this fall, we like his calving ease. We added DTR Brightside 1107G2 and his calves have a lot of potential. We’ve stayed true to the genetics that have served us so well, M6 Bells & Whistles 258 P, M6 New Standard 842 P ET and WCF Mr. Silver Gun 467. Each sire has their place in creating our trademark Multiple-Trait genetics that will make an impact for their new owners.

When you review the offering, I expect most will find Lot 1, a true representative of our genetic profile. This bull has been a ranch favorite since birth and we will retain half interest along with fall possession to continue his female line. As you study the catalog another new sire group stands out, FH Gun Show 0075 P, he was a high seller a few years back and we incorporated his genetics into the program. The bulls are ready to go to work, have been raised in large traps and hand fed. The bulls are calm and easy to handle, docility in our cattle is another trait we select for.

The females are the best to date. These fall pairs include a variety of genetics, and the calves at side feature the new bulls Super Puncher, Brightside and Free Lunch for the most part. I don’t want to sell either of the Silver Gun daughters that have been chosen for the pick of the herd. Lots 101A and 101B are the absolute best three year olds on the place and I will venture to say these two would be the best in a lot of places. The new owner will have a tough decision to make. Either way, the one that stays here will enter the flush program because they both have great cows behind them, with numbers, and a flawless profile. I am very excited to share these females with Charolais breeders. There are many options from first calf heifers to five- and six-year-old cows, all are from the heart of the herd and all designed with Multiple-Traits in mind.

Thank you in advance for your interest in our program and we look to continue to provide reliable genetics for our purebred and commercial customers. Please come early, take a look at the cattle and then join us for lunch. If you cannot attend online bidding is available with Superior. If you have any questions about our offering please feel free to contact me, Randy White or our consultant Clifford Mitchell.

We look forward to seeing you November 2.

This lead-off bull is something special. His pedigree combines some of the decade’s most prolific genetics, and this Bells & Whistles x New Standard cross did not miss. We’ve watched this calf since he was born and think enough of him that we are retaining half interest and fall possession. Bells & Whistles was one of the most reliable sires we’ve used, and we believe 3539 will fill those shoes. His dam is one of our donors, along with his full sister. He is definitely the lead bull in this offering, and has the ability to improve the herd in one generation. PA Free by pedigree.

An ET herd bull out of the best Bells & Whistles daughter in America who happens to be a full sister to Lot 1. This female line is strong within the FH herd and everyone that comes to the ranch finds his dam. Power, balance and numbers. The high performing stout Silver Gun sons keep coming.

This is a very photogenic, clean profiled, calving-ease son of the great Blue Value. He earned the right to be this high in the sale order because he’s good and there is a lot of added value with this young bull and the maternal he brings to the table. This calf comes from a long line of FH females that always make us proud. Your heifers deserve a bull this good. 4

FH BULLET 3572 P

This one could be the sleeper of the bull sale. He’s from the Gun Show sire group and our pick of the Corman herd on the bottom side. This says something because there aren’t many breeders left that have over 50 years of quality still in operation. I really like this bull’s profile and his genetic base, another one that could be a topflight herd bull. Make sure you get a good look at this one.

This bull has a look but is still the cowman’s kind. Thick, deep, wide-based and cool looking. He’s backed by a solid cow family that traces to the start of the Charlot family, who has done great things at Skeans Cattle Co. Performance, good disposition and the ability to sire your replacement pen, he’ll get it done every time.

Here’s a bull that’s hard not to like. A little extra frame, he ranked second in both weighing periods with his contemporaries and was the number one marbling bull in the whole group according to ultrasound. This one has a rich history at FH as his mother was the first Sterling Dam of Distinction and she still doesn’t miss. If your goals are to add pounds, carcass and maintain some maternal, take your chances on this one, they don’t come around very often.

PICK OF WCF MR SILVER GUN 467 FALL PAIRS

The Silver Gun genetics came into their own at FH when the daughters came into production. Many herd sires, commercial and purebred, have been top-sellers and took the program to the next level, but these females in production are awesome. Stephen always likes to offer his best and it’s usually a bit of a struggle to talk him out of the good ones, but this year he was asking what’s the pick going to be and I said I am still thinking. We came over the hill and these two females stood up together and we both got excited because we looked at each other and said that’s what we have been trying to breed. I about fell out of the Polaris when he looked at me and said there’s our pick. Either one of these females is going straight to the donor pen and whichever one stays will be a welcome addition to the FH donor pen. Good luck in making this pick because both females are unique breeding pieces.

LOT 101AA: Polled bull calf #4554, born 8/20/24. BW: 84 lbs., sired by DTR Brightside 1107G2

There aren’t many in the breed that do as many things right as this female. Study her look, EPD profile and the Elvira influence. Her mother is 12 and has a natural calf on her right now. Her full brother was one of last year’s top-sellers going to Joe Garcia in Georgia. Her ultrasound data is impressive and she has a herd sire prospect at side by Brightside. Most would say we’re crazy for offering an opportunity like this, but it’s a tradition at FH to offer the best. She will be hard to part with because she blends so much of what we like in a female.

A softer made brood cow with a look and lineage. The numbers don’t lie and this one has been a ranch favorite since birth. Her dam is 11 and still in production while her half sister is one of the stars in the replacement pen. The good females at FH usually have one thing in common, they come from great cow families and this one hails from the most underrated, dollar producing female the breed has ever known in the M6 540 cow. Her bull calf is a definite herd sire prospect that could see the backdrop in his future.

Problem free, a good mind and calf raisers are the best way to describe these females. This one is just a little better than the rest. These good Silver Gun females are the core of the offering and this one is out of the Nancy family from M6 that brought us the three full sibs that headlined donor pens at three different programs. 6106 was a long time donor for Skeans Cattle Co. and was a bull producer for that outfit. Performance genetics backed by a good female family.

LOT 118A: Polled bull calf #4519, born 8/15/24. BW: 88-lbs., sired by FH-MCR Free Lunch 947

Fargo and another one of the Grid Maker/Three Trees Nancy females and she’s a good one. A first-calf pair, she is another one we probably shouldn’t part with. This female continues a line of females that have made money here at FH and were purchased as embryos to add this family to the foundation.

LOT 119A: Polled heifer #4565, born 8/22/24. BW: 85 lbs., sired by FH MCR Free Lunch 947

This is a little different pedigree, combining two calving-ease bulls that were used on heifers because they were out of highly productive females. Another one from the Bonanza line that have been favorites and work in the pasture. Her heifer calf is out of the Free Lunch son that has sired his first calf crop with numbers—two of his calves were very popular in last year’s sale.

A really attractive Bells & Whistles bred female that calved right at the front-end of calving season and will be a favorite. Calving ease is bred into this one and her heifer calf. This female has a lot of mating options and will make you happy with the results. The McNickle females were bred to perform on grass and have worked.

This Big Ben daughter headlines a small group of bred heifers and these heifers were bred specifically for the sale because management has changed at FH to a fall calving herd. Bluegrass, Fargo and Wind, that’s a good start.

A very high quality halfblood female with look and style. She is very easy-keeping, moderate framed and goes back to the New Jewel cow. This one is definitely a herd builder and could be bred Red Angus or used with today’s Red Charolais genetics that have emerged.

Another one of these high quality composites and her mother is one of the top threeyear olds. Her grandmother produced two of the top sellers in last year’s bull sale. This is a designed crossbreeding system to add value and a little different product.

This Outsider daughter is ready for the replacement pen. Calving-ease and growth is a good combination with some really good females backing her up.

SPRING BRED FEMALES

947 and PE’d to ALT 137K A moderate New Standard bred female with the brood cow look. She’s square and has a look that most will admire plus her scan data has a marbling score of over 4. Calving ease and carcass is always a good combination.
