Greetings and Welcome to the 10th Annual Durham Nation Sale! While much of the balance of the country and world is in flux, things in the Dakotas are stable and strong. Mother nature has blessed us with an incredible growing and harvest season. This has afforded many in the area a largely productive year, much to the contrast of the last couple we have endured. The improved conditions have fueled optimism for better days to come in the ag sector, and, we, along with the other consignors, share this same optimism for the future of Agriculture, and, the great breed of cattle that brings all of us reading this together, Shorthorn. Speaking of optimism, I have never had or felt more for the breed, or, our respective operations. Our bull sales were nothing short of incredible, and, private treaty sales that followed further proved that demand for Shorthorn in the commercial sector is ever growing. The flush will be at our expense and the buyer’s convenience with a guarantee of six grade one embryos. Mailed Bids: Mailed or telephoned bids will be handled in a most confidential manner. If you are unable to attend the sale personally, simply contact a representative of the sale far enough in advance prior to sale day. They will be able to assist you at ringside on sale day. Terms And Conditions: Terms of the sale are cash. Settlement is to be made with the clerk immediately following the sale and before cattle are removed from the premises. Update On Breeding And Calving Information: There will be added information available at the sale site that will list any additions to the catalog information as to new calves born and new breeding information that will occur after the printing of this catalog. Billed Accounts: All billed accounts are due within 10 days following the date of the sale. At 10 days, a two percent service charge will be added to the unpaid balance and an additional two percent will be added every 30 days thereafter unless previous arrangements have been made with the owners. Liability: Each animal will be at the buyer’s risk as soon as sold, but will be cared for by the sellers for a reasonable amount of time. Neither the owners, employees, auctioneer, sale manager or other affiliated personnel can be responsible for any accidents, but they will make every effort to provide for the safety and comfort of those attending. Health: Each animal will be represented by a state approved health certificate for interstate shipment. Buyers should make themselves aware of the health requirements for their respective states. I always say I’m beyond blessed when it comes to help. That was proven yet again this summer when what felt like a moon shot for me in a phone call ask, became reality. I have been fortunate to have known Preston and his family since he was 6 years old, when, ironically, he purchased his first Shorthorn heifer from us. It’s somewhat surreal now looking back as that was the first female I’d had any part of selling with the prefix JSF. That heifer became the foundation Shorthorn for Preston and his family at Cargo Stock Farm. Our paths crossed again while Preston was attending NDSU. Any weekend he wasn’t needed back home, he was helping at the ranch, doing anything that was asked of him. Nearly every pipe at the feedlot was handled by Preston, and, I still recall his measuring stick to be certain they were all of equal height. Check it out next time you are there…you’ll see for yourself. While some fitters may be as good, I don’t know where I’d find one better, and, much like all those posts, I know no animal will leave a chute until he feels it’s presented to the best of it’s ability. Lastly, I will never forget back in college when he told me “I’m a Shorthorn man at heart.” Seven years later, that statement prompted my call to ask, and, I’m so grateful to have him back, now, leading Team JSF. 23 | November 7, 2020

Broncos. Bison. Shorthorns, and, most importantly, his dear wife Kay and family. Those are the things that were absolutely most important to one of the most authentic individuals I’ve ever met. He was the best ambassador for JSF I could ever ask for in and around the city of Lisbon, ND, and, additionally, was a grandfather figure to me I hadn’t had since I was 14. At least once a week, he would stop in to tell me how the cows were doing, which ones were looking the best that week, and, how much he loved Checkered Flag, the bull I put down in his pasture. I’m most grateful for the fact we got the cows and calves down to his pasture last spring before he passed. He was quick to tell me they looked great, and, as always, ended the conversation with “Thanks a million Dirk”. Thank you, LeRoy, for never being something you weren’t, always ever supportive, and, a true Shorthorn man til the end.
