January 2016 - Idolize art in all its shapes and taking maximum inspiration, bringing out pure aesthetics. Catuma, after the capsule collection inspired by Frida Kahlo and Elsa Schiaparelli feminine genius, this time pays tribute to Eileen Gray’s modernist avant-garde. Another strong woman, who with her being, her art, her way to go beyond the usual, has changed history. Her architectural and design projects made in the '900, between the Art Nouveau and Modernism age, have built a bridge between past and future, deeply influencing Catuma, whose style is a mix of craftsmanship , history and innovation.

Just to her first architectural project, the famous villa on the French Riviera, that Gray conceived with her partner at the time, the architect Jean Badovici, Catuma dedicates its capsule collection, named as the villa, E-1027 . The project name, apparently cold and aseptic, actually is a declaration of love: the E, indeed, is for Eileen, the 10 stands for Jean J (J is the tenth letter of the alphabet), the 2 stands for the B of Badovici, the 7 stands for the G of Gray. The white house "au bord de la mer" is a blaze of rounded shapes, swirls and tubular steel, with a recurring element, the circle, declined in the spiral, or hemispheres, reported in the design of the famous Bibendum chair and table E1027 project, also designed by Gray and become a modern design must. The circle, the steel, the attention to the single detail, the geometric perfection, are elements that we find in the Catuma "E- 1027 - Tribute to Eileen Gray" model. An item produced only in 100 pieces, made of steel, gold leaf and cork. The rounded front, is made dynamic by a game of solids and voids caused by decorative swirls made of steel, in which are masterfully integrated cork and gold leaf. Asymmetries that hypnotize thanks to their elegance. Unique lenses and decors, expertly made, with the same attention to detail that Eileen Gray put in making every single corner of the house that has astonished even Le Corbusier, whom "defaced'' it covering the immaculate walls with murals. The Eileen Gray capsule collection, is a sumptuous preview of the "ArTchitecture" collection, which Catuma will present in occasion of MIDO 2016. Perfection, luxury, aesthetics, uniqueness and endless research. This is the Catuma world.
