Nowe pasmo rozmów z autorami i autorkami książek wydanych jakiś czas temu, do których chcielibyśmy wrócić. Czasem ze względu na to, że wyjątkowo rezonują z dzisiejszą rzeczywistością, a czasem dlatego, że w nagromadzeniu ukazujących się licznie nowych tytułów nie otrzymały wcześniej takiej uwagi, na jaką zasługują.

A new series of conversations with authors of books published some time ago that we would like to go back to. Sometimes because they resonate with today’s reality, and sometimes because, in the accumulation of new titles appearing in large numbers, they have not previously received the attention they deserve.

Krzysztof Varga

Pisarz, felietonista, diarysta. Absolwent męskiego liceum katolickiego oraz polonistyki na Uniwersytecie Warszawskim. Autor m.in. powieści Nagrobek z lastryko, Trociny, Masakra, Sonnenberg, zbiorów opowiadań, a także trylogii podróżniczo-eseistycznej o Węgrzech: Gulasz z turula, Czardasz z mangalicą i Langosz w jurcie. Napisał także książkę o Edmundzie Niziurskim, by oddać hołd ulubionemu autorowi swojej młodości, dzięki któremu postanowił kiedyś sam zacząć pisać. Ostatnią jego książką jest Dziennik hipopotama, zapis dwuletnich walk z kulturą i sztuką oraz z życiem i bezsensem życia. Przez ponad ćwierć wieku redaktor i recenzent „Gazety Wyborczej”, a także autor felietonów publikowanych w „Dużym Formacie”. Od końca 2020 roku etatowy felietonista tygodnika „Newsweek Polska”. Obecnie pracuje nad opowieścią podróżniczo-historyczną o Normandii i Bretanii. Mieszka w Warszawie. A writer, columnist, and diarist, Krzysztof Varga is a graduate of a male Catholic secondary school and Polish Studies at the University of Warsaw. Author of many novels, including Nagrobek z lastryko, Trociny, Masakra, Sonnenberg, as well as of collections of short stories, and a travel-essay trilogy about Hungary composed of Gulasz z turula, Czardasz z mangalicą and Langosz w jurcie. He also wrote a book about Edmund Niziurski, a favourite author of his youth, thanks to whom he decided to start writing himself. His last book is Dziennik hipopotama, a record of his two-year struggle with culture and art, and life and its lack of meaning. For more than a quarter of a century, he was an editor and reviewer for Gazeta Wyborcza, as well as a columnist for the Duży Format magazine. Since the end of 2020, he has been a full-time columnist for the Newsweek Polska weekly He is currently working on a travel-historical book about Normandy and Brittany. He lives in Warsaw.

Autor książek fotograficznych: Stigma, nagrodzonej w konkursie IPA; Neverland, wybranej do autorskiej kolekcji photobooków Martina Parra prezentowanych w Tate Gallery oraz Rewizje, nominowanej do książki roku 2020 przez Aperture Foundantion i Paris Photo. Jego fotografi a zatytułowana Wolność została ogłoszona Ikoną Trzydziestolecia w międzynarodowym konkursie Press Club Polska. Jego prace prezentowano m.in. w Paryżu na festiwalu La Quatrième Image, na Biennale w Pradze, na Uniwersytecie Harvarda w Cambridge.

Winner of many photography competitions, including POYi, IPA, Grand Press Photo. Author of photography books: Stigma , awarded in the IPA competition; Neverland, selected for Martin Parr’s photobook collection presented at the Tate Gallery; and How to Rejuvenate an Eagle, nominated for book of the year 2020 by Aperture Foundantion and Paris Photo. His photograph entitled ‘Freedom’ won Press Club Polska’s Icon of 30 Years: Freedom and Solidarity competition. His work has been exhibited in Paris at the La Quatrième Image festival, at the Prague Biennale, and at Harvard University in Cambridge.

Wykładał w Polskiej Szkole Reportażu i Europejskim Centrum Solidarności w ramach warsztatów reporterskich Metafora faktu. Autor Studia DF – cyklu rozmów wideo z reporterami. Finalista Nike. Laureat niemieckiej Polsko-Niemieckiej Nagrody Dziennikarskiej 2009 i Nagrody SDP im. Kazimierza Dziewanowskiego (2005) za cykl reportaży z Białorusi. Jego Obwód głowy, zbiór tekstów o trudnym polsko-niemieckim sąsiedztwie, zaliczany jest do kanonu klasyki polskiego reportażu. Książka znalazła się w finale Nagrody Literackiej Nike 2008, a jej niemieckie wydanie (Die Nacht von Wildenhagen) zdobyło Nagrodę Kulturalną im. George Dehio (2010). A reporter and culture expert, Włodzimierz Nowak runs Studium Reportażu (a reportage workshop) at the Jaracz Theatre in Olsztyn. He is a co-founder of the reportage department at OKO.Press and he was the head of Duży Format, a reporter’s magazine. He lectured at the Polish School of Reportage and the European Solidarity Centre as part of the ‘Metafora faktu’ reporter’s workshop. He is the author of Studio DF – a series of video interviews with reporters. He is also a Nike finalist and the winner of the German-Polish Journalism Prize (2009) and the Kazimierz Dziewanowski Award of the Polish Association of Journalists (SDP) (2005) for a series of reportages from Belarus. His Obwód głowy, a collection of texts about the difficult Polish-German neighbourhood, is counted among the classics of Polish reportage. The book reached the fi nal of the 2008 Nike Literary Award, and its German edition ( Die Nacht von Wildenhagen) won the Georg Dehio Cultural Prize (2010). A play based on Obwód głowy was produced at the Tadeusz Łomnicki Nowy Theatre in Poznań (directed by Zbigniew Brzoza, premiered in 2014). His second book of reportage, Serce narodu koło przystanku, tells the story of the Polish transformation and its victims (finalist of the Ryszard Kapuściński Award 2009). Niemiec. Wszystkie ucieczki Zygfryda (Nike nomination, 2017) is a book that tackles the question of whether it is possible to escape in life. Is escape even possible? A must-read for those who feel that we have not studied the lessons of the People’s Republic of Poland carefully enough. Autorka powieści Szklanka na pająki (2010/2018), prozy Utkanki (2014), powieści Kraboszki (2020) oraz czterech tomów poetyckich (ostatni Syberia (2016)). W 2022 roku według Kraboszek powstał spektakl Rodzanice (Teatr Gdynia Główna, Akademia Głosów Tradycji, reż. Ewa Ignaczak). Trenerka warsztatów twórczego pisania m.in. na ogólnopolskim festiwalu rozwojowym dla kobiet Progressteron oraz w Pałacu Młodzieży w Gdańsku (2002–2018). Nominowana do Nagrody Miasta Gdańska w Dziedzinie Kultury Splendor Gedanensis za rok 2010. Laureatka Nagrody Gdańskich Bibliotekarzy Pro Libro Legendo za rok 2010, zdobywczyni I nagrody w Konkursie Literatury Pomorskiej i Kaszubskiej 2021 Costerina (kategoria proza). Od kilku lat prowadzi spacery zielarsko- i roślinno-literackie oraz z twórczym pisaniem. Stypendystka Miasta Gdańska i Marszałka Województwa Pomorskiego. W 2023 roku wyjdą jej powieść Gaja i zielony przewodnik literacki po Gdańsku (Wydawnictwo Marpress).

A writer, poet and columnist for miastoliteratury.com., Barbara Piórkowska is the author of the novel Szklanka na pająki (2010/2018), the prose Utkanki (2014), the novel Kraboszki (2020) and four poetry volumes – the latest is Syberia (2016). In 2022, the play Rodzanice (Gdynia Główna Theatre, Academy of Voices of Tradition, directed by Ewa Ignaczak) was created based on Kraboszki. She is a trainer of creative writing workshops at Progressteron, the national personal development festival for women, and at the Youth Palace in Gdańsk

(2002–2018). She was nominated for the City of Gdańsk Splendor Gedanensis Award in the field of culture for 2010. She is the winner of the Pro Libro Legendo Award of Gdansk Librarians for 2010, as well as of the first prize in the Costerina Competition of Pomeranian and Kashubian Literature 2021 (in the prose category). For several years, she has been organising herbal and plant literary walks and creative writing workshops. She is the scholarship holder of the City of Gdańsk and the Marshal of the Pomeranian Voivodeship. Her novel Gaja and a green literary guide to Gdańsk (Marpress) will be out in 2023.
