The intervention is located in the area of Metaxourgeio. It concerns the dispersion of nodes of production in the urban tissue. The production is organized in terms of mass customization, which presupposes the direct communication of the design model and its production machines [CNC]. The total space needed is split and dispersed in the urban tissue, with the buildings being the neurons of a swarm, abolishing the distinction between urban and buildings’ scale. The minimization of the scale of every part of the intervention is combined with the maximizing of the influence, which is offered by their networking cooperation. Each unit functions in terms of its direct physical environment, as well as in those of its belonging network. The urban approach is divided into three levels of different scale. The first one considers the area of Metaxourgeio as a whole and the analysis focuses on the intensive quantities, on the sum of the tensions that act on it and their evolutionary process of their creation, with a special emphasis given on the uses of land related with the process of production. In the second level, Metaxourgeio is considered to be a system that can be divided into subsystems, to a sum of sub-areas with the analysis focusing on the processing of extensive quantities, in order to define the broader areas of the interventions. Finally, the third level focuses on the urban blocks, analysing extensive quantities in order to define the exact places of the interventions.

The areas to locate the intervention are selected focusing on the best use of the latent powers [empty spaces and buildings] of the total area. Rates to determine this are exported through algorithms, designed in Grasshopper. An approach of the area based on the extensive quantities is thus being done. The data to be used for processing by the algorithms are: - the latent powers, meaning the empty parcels and inactive buildings [empty buildings, with no use during a long time, usually in a state of abandonment], - the surface of the existing buildings, through which the existing coverage will derive, according to the case study, - the heights of the existing buildings, through which, and in combination to the surface, the total built area will derive, - the street network, that will provide us all the possible paths and the equivalent distances between any two points of interest.

The architectural design of each building has to cope with the contradiction emerging by the settlement of the forces that, on the one hand are attracted by the stability of the location and on the other, those that press for its constant change. The building takes shape by a genome, consisting of two volumes, according to the F2F [File to Factory] procedure.
The first part concerns the design of the product – digital production, while the second one, its physical production. One of the principle concerns is the seek for a structure as an emerging element of a dynamic system-building, while the system is not fully articulated.
At this point, the concept of a swarm as an isomorphic system is introduced, which constitutes the composite informational structure, that allows the interaction of the structural elements with themselves, as well as with their environment. This interaction is based on the flow of information between objects and subjects, becoming the emerging mechanism of the creation of the building’s structure.
In the same time, the interaction mechanism tends to become a positive feedback mechanism, a mechanism that feeds the complexity of the system, as it drives it to redefine its identity. An identity based on the new data, on the new conditions deriving from the environment.
The distribution of forms in space defines an “extensive space”, while the possibilities of reprogramming of the whole define an “intensive space”.
