C HAP TER 1 - The Last Match

‘Ding! Ding! Ding!’

The most important moment of my wrestling career has begun. Trying to ignore the churning in my stomach, I duck underneath the rough ropes. It might be my last Xme to wrestle. The officials have started pulling the losing compeXtors out of the compeXXon If I lose, my career is over.

“Now we have The Redback coming up on the le[!” announces the referee. I can hardly hear the applauding over my pounding heart. My confidence drops as I face my opponent, The Diamond Viper. There’s a glint of venom in his eyes, and I get a cold shiver down my spine I’m too encased in my fear to realise we’ve started. I see The Diamond Viper charging towards me. I brace myself……. I take a deep breath in and…

I walk grudgingly up my front steps, sXll sweaty from the match. I open the door and put my favourite suitcase down. It’s old, worn out, and has big, gold buckles on the side. My dad gave it to me when I was li`le. I take my wrestling gear out and put it on the floor. I plonk down on my so[ couch and stare at the empty space in my trophy cabinet. My heart melts as I realise that I’ll never be able to fill that last li`le space because my career is gone What am I going to do with my life? I wonder. A familiar melody pulls me out of my thoughts, and I pick up my phone, I hear my best friend Ma`’s voice on the phone. “I heard about your match, I’m so sorry, but I’ve got something to keep you busy for a few days.’’

Seriously, another boring , restless flight. “I wish I was travelling to a wrestling comp,” I mumbled under my breath, rolling my faXgued eyes. Noisy babies, sick, sneezing people and no one has personal space I eat a few of my peanuts, they are Xnier than my big tooth, the banana is all mushy and has almost turned brown and the orange juice is thick, it’s barely a liquid. I nudge the bu`on and call the flight a`endant. My eyes hurt. She looks too young to be a flight a`endant. She has her brown hair slicked back into a low bun, a bright red fashionable scarf and a blue suit with an independent look in her blue eyes.

“My name is Stacy. What would you like? ”

“ This is the most disgusXng food in the world, it isn’t even the slightest bit tasty!” I complain “Sorry, this is my first day,” she apologises.

“Okay, anyway, I think I need a soapy sponge to clean up all of this muck!” I replied angrily.

“Good a[ernoon passengers, I hope you have had an amazing experience with Qantas Airways, we have now landed at Sydney Airport ” The PA system bellowed. Flight a`endant Stacy struts off. In the Xme of a split second, I see an expensive, beauXful, glistening , ruby necklace.

“Wait ” I say The flight a`endant looks back at me “Never mind,” my voice echoes.

I get out of my uncomfortable seat My shoulders had been squashed the whole flight and are tense causing them to cramp. I grab my old, broken down and dusty suitcase. The things in there are my only memory le[ of the fun Xmes I’ve had wrestling. The thought that that could’ve been my mum’s ruby necklace was illogical and absurd. Then again, it ’s not impossible

C HA PTER 2 - Stacy

CHA PTER 3 – The Stolen J ewel

I plod down the stairs of the plane. The breeze from the plane turbines is blasXng onto my face. I feel another wave of sadness washing over me. The sadness was created when I lost that match against the Diamond Viper a few days ago. I gaze down at my watch and realise the Xme. Almost 9am. I’m running late. I sprint through the corridors of Terminal 3, down the hall ignoring the security guards, to the Qantas Flight A`endant School. I see my friend Ma` beckoning me toward the direcXon of the classroom. I walk through the door and all I can see is the grand windows at the back of the classroom gazing out to watch the planes take off. All of the new recruits stand up and welcome me into the classroom. “Hi Eugene.” “Welcome to your first day at Flight A`endant School,” Ma` says. “Class, Eugene will be helping me teach you for the next few days.” Ma` announces. He looks in my direcXon while speaking. “Good morning , everyone!” I say shuffling around a bit. “First, I’m going to ask you all what your names are.” I say but stop before I can point towards someone. I stare at Stacy. There’s a red shimmer coming off her chest. It is the same ruby necklace that I saw on the aeroplane. Ignoring the sadness that I think wishing that mum was here comforXng me. The anger rushes up…wait, that is Mum’s ruby necklace…

the night.

So, I call an Uber to drive me back to my hotel. I am Xred and I just want to get to my hotel in peace, but the Uber driver needs my direcXons. The whole way “My apologies, it’s my first day Uber driving,” he says weakly. Finally, we pull into the car park of the hotel.

CHAPTE R 4 - Ho te l Room

Standing outside of my hotel room, I fumble for my keycard. I place down the suitcase on the floor and swipe the card against the sensor. I pick up my suitcase and go to my room and flop down onto the couch, exhausted I had no idea that teaching could be so hard! I then realise I would have to teach again tomorrow! While I was thinking about what Stacy would be like as I was silng at the table eaXng my baked beans from room service I took a spoonful and ate it. As the warm beans go down my throat I look out of the window and over in the distance I see Sydney Tower. I sigh deeply. I can’t do this for much longer I think as the moon casts a beauXful ray of moonlight onto a couple of my windows and reflected it in. A[er I finish, I put the plates outside my door for room service I walk over to my bed and lay down, slowly dri[ing off to sleep not knowing what is in store for me tomorrow…

C HAPTER 5 - F am ily R eunion

I awake to a knock on the door. Oh seriously, room service this early in the morning! I trudge out of bed and waddle towards the door extremely annoyed that room service is here at 5am in the morning. I open the door and I am about to say Please come back later but I see Stacy at the door instead “Why are you here?” I ask in dazed confusion.

“To get my necklace back! I thought you were a wrestler, not a thief!” Stacy exclaims.

“I promise I didn’t steal your necklace.” I lie nervously. “Anyway, I’m going back to sleep see you at class in a couple of hours.” I turn around and walk back towards the bed.

“Oh, you don’t have it do you? ” Stacy says sarcasXcally. I stumble while turning around. Stacy holds the suitcase in her hand…

Stacy plonks the suitcase on the ground and unzips the suitcase steadily I reach to protect my belongings and hide the necklace but it's too late. I shove the suitcase on the so[ carpet and the ruby necklace falls. The necklace separates into halves and inside there is a small picture of a teenage boy cradling a newborn baby girl. “ That’s me as a baby!” cried Stacy

“What! How? Because that’s me when I was 13!” I exclaim.

We both stare at each other in astonishment and confusion. I think to myself if I have met her and held her when she was born Are we related? We can’t be, how could we be related?

Stacy menXons that her grandmother had said something about a distant uncle, but the details were unclear.

“Wait, what was your grandmother ’s name? ”, I ask eagerly.

“Susannah Cruise,” Stacy replies cauXously.

I stare in shock

“ That’s my mum’s name!” I say.

“Uncle Eugene, is it you? ” Stacy exclaims

A"er a devasta+ng end to his wrestling career, Eugene Cruise finds himself on a plane, travelling to Australia to teach flight a=endants in training. Soon a"er he boards the plane, he is certain he has spo=ed his mother ’s necklace res+ng on the neck of a new flight a=endant. Confirming it is his, he decides to get back what is righCully belongs to him. But with people looking everywhere and his reputa+on falling apart, will he succeed?
