WATER RULES & REGULATIONS DEFINITION OF WATERCRAFT: Lake Viking recognizes the term “watercraft” to include motorized, wind-driven or human-powered boats or vessels. Unless specified, the term watercraft will include all of the described boats or vessels. For your protection and safety, we have a Patrol boat on the lake during the summer boating season. The Safety Officer will check all registrations to make sure that no unauthorized persons are using your lake; therefore, watercraft registrations or proof of ownership must be shown, and the watercraft must properly display member identification and current year sticker BEFORE the watercraft is allowed on the water. Guest watercrafts are not allowed. Non-member renters’ watercrafts are not allowed. Missouri Boating Regulations will be followed, except when Lake Viking Association rules are adopted for boater safety. Members will ensure their guests are fully aware of water use rules prior to accessing Lake Viking waters. DEFINITION OF TROLLING SPEED: A vessel may not proceed at a speed greater than necessary to maintain steering. FLYING OBJECTS: Any towable object that is designed to fly separated from the vessel body by string or line is banned. MISSOURI BOATING VIOLATION: All watercraft and operators must comply with Missouri Highway Patrol, Water Patrol Division guidelines, requirements and regulations not specified in the VVA Handbook. Exception: Lake Viking only requires a 75 ft. distance be kept from the shoreline while underway. WATERCRAFT INDENTIFICATION: All watercraft (other than air-inflated non-motorized flotation devices or human-propelled watercraft) must have owner’s lot number displayed in at least three (3) inch numbers on both sides of the boat near the stern. The lot numbers and membership sticker of current year must be displayed in a color and manner that is prominent and readily visible. Due to vessel restrictions, Personal Watercraft must have the owner’s lot number displayed in the same manner as described above, but placed towards the front of the vessel along with the current membership sticker. Affixing the membership sticker to watercraft acknowledges the member is aware of current water rules & regulations. PERSONAL WATERCRAFT: Personal watercraft may not be operated after sunset. Any personal watercraft violations will automatically be issued an infraction ticket. USE OF FLAG: Effective from dawn ‘til dusk: Whenever a person leaves a boat and 26
