Car Show In The Works THS Alum Jeremy Soptic Organizing Car Show Event For 2021 Alumni Weekend

With the 2020 Trenton High School Alumni Reunion being cancelled last fall, plans are under way to make the 2021 weekend bigger and better than ever, with the first announced addition to the annual Labor Day weekend event being a car show.

The car show, which is being organized by THS alum Jeremy Soptic, is believed to be the first one ever hosted during Alumni Weekend. It will be held Saturday, Sept. 4 and since many car enthusiasts schedule their events well in advance, the show is being announced early to allow for planning. The event will be held in the THS circle drive and will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with numerous classes for entry. There is a $10 entry fee for exhibitors, with trophies to be presented for winning entries. Both food and door prizes will be part of the event. Exhibitors nor spectators do not have to be THS graduates and all proceeds from the event will be ear-

marked for the THS Alumni Scholarship Fund. Those with questions about the car show can contact Soptic at 660-359-1938 or visit the official Facebook page at THS Alumni Car Show or the Foundation Trust for THS Facebook page. In other THS Alumni news, classes are reminded to submit updated mailing lists to Dr. John Holcomb in preparation for the annual mailing scheduled for February. Lists may be picked up or the completed lists may be mailed to P.O. Box 185 in Trenton or to Dr. Holcomb at 3313 Lake Trenton Dr., Trenton, MO 64683. Mailing lists are requested to be returned by Feb. 1.

The Trenton Park Board, which normally meets the first Wednesday of the month, has moved its January meeting. The meeting has now been scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 13, with an agenda and meeting location to be announced.

Missouri Cases Top 400,000 ST. LOUIS (AP) — The number of coronavirus cases in Missouri has now topped 400,000, and hospitalizations remained at a high level on Sunday. The state reported 2,305 new cases of the coronavirus to give it 401,761 total cases since the pandemic began. Missouri also reported 19 new deaths to give the state 5,562 linked to COVID19. The seven-day rolling average of new cases is down significantly from the peak of 4,723 set back on Nov. 20, but it has been on the rise since Wednesday’s 2,183 and it hit 2,810 on Sunday. The number of people hospitalized with the coronavirus in the state declined to 2,701 from the previous day's 2804, but it remained around the high level the state has been reporting since mid-November. The seven-day average number of hospitalizations has stayed above 2,500 since mid-November. That is double what it was in early October.

Trump, On Tape, Presses Ga. Official To 'Find' Him Votes President Repeatedly Cited Disproven Claims Of Fraud WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump pressured Georgia's Republican secretary of state to “find” enough votes to overturn Joe Biden's win in the state's presidential election, repeatedly citing disproven claims of fraud and raising the prospect of a “criminal offense" if officials did not change the vote count, according to a recording of the conversation. The phone call with Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger on Saturday was the latest step in an unprecedented effort by a sitting president to press a state official to reverse the outcome of a free and fair election that he lost. The president, who has refused to accept his loss to Democratic president-elect Biden, repeatedly argued that Raffensperger could change the certified results. “All I want to do is this. I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have," Trump said. "Because we won the state." Georgia counted its votes a total of three times before certifying Biden's win by a 11,779 margin, Raffensperger noted. “President Trump, we’ve had several lawsuits, and we’ve had to respond in court to the lawsuits and the contentions," he said on the call. We don’t agree that you have won." Audio snippets of the conversation were first posted online by The Washington Post. The Associated Press obtained the full audio of Trump’s conversation with Georgia officials

from a person on the call. The AP has a policy of not amplifying disinformation and unproven allegations. The AP plans to post the full audio as it annotates a transcript with fact check material. Trump's renewed intervention and the persistent and unfounded claims of fraud come nearly two weeks before he leaves office and two days before twin runoff elections in Georgia that will determine political control of the U.S. Senate. It also added a level of further intrigue to Trump's rally in Georgia Monday night — likely the last of his term — in which he is supposed to boost the two Republican candidates. In a rage after the Raffensperger call, Trump floated the idea of pulling out of the rally, which would have potentially devastated the GOP chances in what is expected to be a pair of razorthin races. But Trump was persuaded to go ahead with the rally as a stage from which to reiterate his claims of election fraud and to present, as he tweeted Monday, the “real numbers” from the race. Republicans, though, were wary as to whether Trump would focus only on himself and potentially depress turnout by undermining faith in the runoff elections and not promoting the two GOP candidates. The president used Saturday's hourlong phone conversation to tick through a list of claims about the election in Georgia, including that hundreds of thousands of ballots mysteriously appeared in Fulton County, which includes Atlanta. Officials have said there is no evidence of that happening. The Georgia officials on the call are heard repeatedly pushing back against the president’s assertions, telling him that he’s relying on de-

bunked theories and, in one case, selectively edited video. “It was pretty obvious pretty early on that we’d debunked every one of those theories early on,” Raffensperger told ABC's “Good Morning America” on Monday, “but President Trump continues to believe them.” At another point in the conversation, Trump appeared to threaten Raffensperger and Ryan Germany, the secretary of state’s legal counsel, by suggesting both could be criminally liable if they failed to find that thousands of ballots in Fulton County had been illegally destroyed. There is no evidence to support Trump’s claim. “That’s a criminal offense,” Trump says. “And you can’t let that happen." Others on the call included Mark Meadows, the White House chief of staff, and attorneys assisting Trump, including Washington lawyer Cleta Mitchell. Democrats and a few Republicans condemned Trump's actions, while at least one Democrat urged a criminal investigation. Legal experts said Trump's behavior raised questions about possible election law violations. Biden senior adviser Bob Bauer called the recording “irrefutable proof” of Trump threatening an official in his own party to “rescind a state's lawful, certified vote count and fabricate another in its place.” “It captures the whole, disgraceful story about Donald Trump's assault on American democracy,” Bauer said. Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois, the No. 2 Democrat in that chamber, said Trump’s conduct “merits nothing less than a criminal investigation." Trump confirmed in a tweet Sunday that he had spoken with Raffensperger. The White House referred questions to Trump’s reelection cam-

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE There’s a chance of rain and snow on Wednedsay, with a high of 38, then mostly cloudy on Thursday, with a high of 35. Lows will be in the mid-20s. The high Wednesday at Trenton was 33, Thursday’s high was 29 and Friday’s high was 28, with 3.2 inches of snow. The high Saturday and Sunday was 31, with a low Sunday of 12. There was no report from the Government Weather Station near Spickard.

paign, which did not respond Sunday to an emailed request for comment. Raffensperger’s office did not respond to a request for comment. Trump has repeatedly attacked how Raffensperger conducted Georgia’s elections, claiming without evidence that the state’s 16 electoral votes were wrongly given to Biden. “He has no clue!” Trump tweeted of Raffensperger, saying the state official “was unwilling, or unable” to answer questions. Raffensperger’s Twitter response: “Respectfully, President Trump: What you’re saying is not true. The truth will come out.” Various election officials across the country and Trump's former attorney general, William Barr, have said there was no widespread fraud in the election. Republican governors in Arizona and Georgia, key battleground states crucial to Biden’s victory, have also vouched for the integrity of their state elections. Nearly all the legal challenges from Trump and his allies have been dismissed by judges, including two tossed by the Supreme Court, which has three Trump-nominated justices. In Georgia, the ballots were counted three times. One was a mandatory hand count and one was requested by Trump. Still, Trump has publicly disparaged the election, raising concerns among Republicans that GOP voters may be discouraged from participating in Tuesday's runoffs pitting Sen. Kelly Loeffler against Democrat Raphael Warnock and Republican David Perdue against Democrat Jon Ossoff. Rebecca Green, who helps direct the election law program at William and Mary Law School, said that while it is appropriate for a candidate to question the outcome of an election,

the processes for doing so for the presidential election have run their course. States have certified their votes. Green said Trump had raised “lots of questions” about whether he violated any election laws. Carl Tobias, a law professor at the University of Richmond, said Trump has shown “reprehensible and, possibly illegal, conduct.” Trump noted on the call that he intended to repeat his claims about fraud at a rally Monday night in Dalton, a heavily Republican area in north Georgia. “The people of Georgia are angry, the people of the country are angry,” he says on the recording. Biden is also due to campaign in Georgia on Monday, and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris stumped in Garden City, Georgia, on Sunday, slamming Trump for the call. “It was a bald, bald-faced, bold abuse of power by the president of the United States,” she said. Loeffler and Perdue have largely backed Trump in his attempts to overturn election results. But on Sunday, Loeffler said she hadn't decided whether to join Republican colleagues in challenging the legitimacy of Biden’s victory over Trump when Congress meets Wednesday to affirm Biden's 306-232 vote win in the Electoral College. Perdue, who was quarantining after being exposed to a staff member with the coronavirus, said he supports the challenge, although he will not be a sitting senator when the vote happens because his term has expired. Still, he told Fox News Channel he was encouraging his colleagues to object, saying it's “something that the American people demand right now.”

RESTED AND READY With Stars Sitting Out, Chiefs Drop Regular Season Finale CHARGERS 36 CHIEFS 21

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Chargers spent Sunday reveling in the future of their young quarterback and pondering the fate of their head coach. The Chiefs spent it looking forward to the playoffs. In a game that was in many ways meaningless, Justin Herbert threw for 302 yards and accounted for four touchdowns against a team of mostly Kansas City backups, and Los Angeles rolled to a 38-21 victory at Arrowhead Stadium that should at least give its owners something to ponder ahead of their end-of-season meeting with coach Anthony Lynn. Reports surfaced earlier in the day that Lynn could be fired as soon as Monday. And while the Chargers (7-9) finished with four straight wins, and Herbert has emerged as their franchise quarterback, the fate of Lynn may have been sealed weeks ago when they were eliminated from playoff contention for the second consecutive year. “As of right now I'm still under contract. That's how I feel, said Lynn, who is 33-31 in four seasons. “I think we've done a good job here, under the circumstances. Yeah, I'd like to be the head coach here. But right now I'm under contract. Herbert made it clear Lynn has

his support: “I believe in him, he said. “I believe in this coaching staff. I believe in this team. Mike Williams, Donald Parham Jr. and Austin Ekeler had touchdown catches for the Chargers, though Ekeler’s season ended with a concussion late in the first half. Herbert also sneaked in for a score and Los Angeles added a sack of Chiefs quarterback Chad Henne for a safety as the game turned into a rout. The Chiefs, meanwhile, already had wrapped up the No. 1 seed and the AFC’s lone first-round bye, so coach Andy Reid chose rest over reps by sitting quarterback Patrick Mahomes, safety Tyrann Mathieu and several of his best players. “This was a lot like a fourth preseason game where we asked these guys to play offense, defense and special teams and there weren't a lot of backups I was going to play, Reid said, “so they really had to push through it. Henne, making his first start since September 2014 with Jacksonville, threw for 218 yards with his first two TD passes in 2,303 days. Byron Pringle caught the first early in the game and Darwin Thompson grabbed the second late. In fact, Henne looked a bit like Mahomes — if you squinted really hard — much of the first half. The 35-year-old journeyman was 6 for 6 on the Chiefs' opening drive, which ended with a flick to Pringle in the back of the end zone. He was nearly as sharp on their second drive, when Pringle hauled in a batted pass and was tackled at

the 1-yard line and Thompson promptly pounded the ball into the end zone. “Great to get back in the end zone, Henne said, “and great to celebrate with the guys. While Henne played the role of wily veteran, the first-year phenom Herbert more than matched him. The 22-year-old quarterback answered Henne's opening drive with a perfect one of his own, going 6 for 6 and capping it with Parham's 8-yard TD catch. Herbert's second drive fizzled but Chiefs returner Mecole Hardman fumbled away another punt, and Herbert capitalized with a touchdown pass to Ekeler a few minutes later. The safety and Herbert's TD sneak gave the Chargers a 24-14 halftime lead, and the No. 6 overall draft pick's 48-yard toss to Williams late in the third quarter gave him a rookie record six games with at least three touchdown passes. Earlier in the game, Herbert passed Carson Wentz's rookie record of 379 completions in a season. His four total TDs gave him 36 this season, passing Cam Newton's rookie record, and he became the youngest QB in NFL history to eclipse 30 touchdown passes. He finished with 4,336 yards passing, just 39 off Andrew Luck's rookie record. “He's the best rookie in the league. He proved that this season, Williams said. “Didn't he break, like, every rookie record? So yeah, rookie of the year for sure. SITTING IT OUT

Mahomes finished his third season as the starter with 4,740 yards, 38 touchdown passes and six interceptions. He was joined on the Chiefs inactive list by wide receivers Hill (hamstring) and Sammy Watkins (calf), running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire (ankle), linebacker Ben Niemann (hamstring) and right tackle Mike Remmers (back). Mathieu was a healthy scratch while linebacker Anthony Hitchens remained on the COVID-19 list. The Chargers were without Pro Bowl selections Allen (COVID-19) and Joey Bosa (concussion and shin). They also didn't have tight end Hunter Henry (COVID-19), right tackle Bryan Bulaga (foot), cornerback Casey Hayward (hamstring), left tackle Sam Tevi (knee) and safeties Rayshawn Jenkins (ankle) and Jahleel Addae (calf). INJURIES Chargers: Ekeler left after a helmet-to-helmet hit from Chiefs safety Juan Thornhill. Right guard Trai Turner left earlier in the half with a chest injury and safety Alohi Gilman in the fourth quarter with a possible concussion. Chiefs: Willie Gay hurt his ankle on their third defensive play, leaving the Chiefs with only two healthy linebackers. Backup cornerback DeAndre Baker as carted off with a left leg injury early in the second half. UP NEXT Chargers: Ponder their coach's future and the NFL draft. Chiefs: Await their playoff opponent for the divisional round.

Henry, who entered the game with 1,777 yards rushing, reached 2,000 on a 6-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Missouri Rolls To Road Win In Arkansas Tigers Bounce Back With Physical Conference Victory NO. 12 MISSOURI 81 ARKANSAS 68

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Cuonzo Martin was known as a physical player when he played at Purdue in the early 1990s. His Missouri Tigers sure looked like one of his teams on Saturday. The No. 12 Tigers gritted their way to a bruising win at Arkansas, 81-68, with oldschool post play and hard challenges. “Our DNA is defense, Martin said. “You’ve got to have some guys in that locker room that have some grit to them, some toughness to them. Jeremiah Tilmon, Missouri’s

6-foot-10, 260-pound center, found life on the inside easy against undermanned Arkansas. He scored a careerhigh 25 points on 9-of-13 shooting and grabbed 11 rebounds as the Razorbacks had no one to answer him on the block. Arkansas (9-1, 1-1 Southeastern Conference) was without Justin Smith, their usual starting interior player, after Smith injured his ankle in Wednesday’s win at Auburn. The team announced he would miss three to six weeks after surgery. The missing 11.6 points and 7.1 rebounds he averaged were noticeable. Missouri (7-1, 1-1) outrebounded Arkansas 51-36, outscored the Razorbacks 3422 in the paint, and forced them into 27% shooting from the field. Every penetration attempt by Arkansas guards and wings was met with a body as 57 fouls were whistled over the 40 minutes. Arkansas coach Eric Mus-

selman had seen enough as Missouri stretched its lead to double digits during the final 10 minutes. Musselman was ejected after arguing with the officials at the under-fourminute timeout following a stretch of the game’s most physical play. The Razorbacks missed 22 layups as Missouri’s plan to force Arkansas away from the 3-point line to the inside worked. “When they were coming in, we were trying to make sure we had our hands up and jumping with them. Just contesting the shots, that was our main thing, Tilmon said. Missouri allowed Arkansas to stay close for most of the game as the Tigers committed 21 turnovers, though Arkansas managed to turn those into just 15 points. The Razorbacks went 4:53 without a field goal midway through the second half, finally giving Missouri enough of an edge to build its lead to double digits into the

under-eight media timeout. Martin was frustrated by the turnovers, which were only barely down from the 24 the Tigers had in Wednesday’s loss to No. 7 Tennessee. It was about the only thing he didn’t care for on Saturday, though. “The game against Tennessee, that was not like us at all, Martin said. “This. This is what we look like. Tilmon was joined in double figures by Xavier Pinson (23) and Mark Smith (11). JD Notae and Moses Moody led Arkansas in scoring with 19 and 18 points, but needed a combined 33 field-goal attempts to reach those marks. An early alley-oop from Pinson to Tilmon set the stage. It’s a combination Martin specifically called out as important after the game, too. “If he (Tilmon) gets to that point where he demands the ball every time down, we’re a different level of team, Martin said.

Dear Annie: I have been with my husband for almost nine years. We have been married for three years. His family was nice to me before the wedding, but after, they became aloof. His daughter is horrible. She has NO respect, not even for my husband. My husband has a lot of money -- a few million dollars. He has never told me this, but his friends did. I also found paperwork showing that he has about $2.5 million. We live in a rat hole, to say the least, and with the COVID-19, I lost my job of 46 years. Before we married, I had my own house, car and life. Now I rent my house; my car is in the garage; and my husband is a recluse. I have no money, and the unemployment agency keeps saying I owe them money for the past 10 months. I thought they were supposed to pay me money! My husband is a Scrooge. He's 68 years old and acts like he's 98. He does not want to do anything or go anywhere and complains about money all the time. Asking him for grocery money is like pulling teeth. He

knows he has me in a rut, as I'm not working. My daughter-in-law has never given us a card, a gift or a kind word in the nine years that we have been together. My husband thinks she's a goddess and treats her like a queen. My husband's ex-wife went with his brother and divorced him and took him for a pretty penny. I now know that his family is upset because they think I will get some of his money and they won't get a dime. I'm pretty sad, as I can't even get grocery money. He always said he was leaving his daughter everything. I made a huge mistake, and with COVID-19 and no money, I will lose everything. My daughter-in-law comes over. She has two horrible little kids who won't sit still in a restaurant or at home. When the kids were diaper age, she would leave dirty diapers around, leave dirty towels on the floor and never bring us anything, not even at Christmas or on birthdays. My daughter-in-law only thinks

about herself and only buys clothes, haircuts, cars and houses for herself. Her mother lives near us, and she came for her mom's birthday, yet she has never given a card for my husband's birthday. She tells us what she buys her mom. It's heartbreaking. He never sees his friends and my friends. I have many friends who think he's weird and that I should go. I'm going crazy. I need help but have no medical coverage at the moment. I'm dying inside. Please tell me what I can do. -- Living With Scrooge in Las Vegas Dear Living With Scrooge: I'm sorry that you are living in what sounds like a very toxic house. Focusing on your daughter-in-law's and her children's faults and how horrible they are does very little to dissipate the toxicity. It sounds like there is a lot of blame and anger to go around, including on your end. It is time to consult a professional marriage counselor. That is the best way to figure out whether this marriage is worth saving. You should feel more alive with your partner, not like you are dying inside.

Working from home The pandemic has changed many things about day-to-day life, including how we work. Widespread closures and safety measures in the spring led to millions of Americans working from home. Of the workers who say their duties can mainly be done remotely, most had rarely if ever “teleworked” before the pandemic hit. Now, 71% are doing their jobs from home most or all the time, according to research by the Pew Research Center. And more than half say they want to keep working from

home even after the pandemic, if given the choice. The survey of nearly 6,000 workers found that 64% would feel uncomfortable returning to their in-person workplace soon. Over 30% would feel very uncomfortable. Not everyone’s job can be done remotely. While 38% of U.S. adults say that their job, for the most part, can be done from home, over 60% say it cannot. Those with higher income and more education are more likely to say they can work from home.
