Due to a change in ownership of Mi Mexico restaurant, a request for a liquor license by the drink, including Sunday sales, was approved by the Gallatin Board of Aldermen during their Dec. 14 meeting. Martha Cantu is the new owner of the restaurant, located at 400 North Main Street. Chief Mark Richards was not present at the meeting, but he did provide an incident report list for the past two weeks: three welfare checks; two animal problems; two unattended deaths; one threatening; one domestic disturbance; one citizen dispute; one citizen contact; one lockout; two property damage; one traffic accident with damage; one dead body; one incomplete call; one harassment. Public Works Director Mark Morey reported that city crews repaired two water leaks last
week. One was located on East Berry Street. The other leak was repaired on Cedar Street. Crews have tried to locate the leak on Cedar Street several times but were unsuccessful. Rural Water was able to help narrow down the area the leak wasn’t coming from which in turn helped crews locate the source of the leak. A coupling from a previous leak repair had worked itself loose. Crews were able to tighten the coupling and repair the leak. Crews replaced an electrical pole by Main Street Pharmacy last week. Crews plan to replace a few more poles in that area of town this week. Morey stated he will need to order more of the shorter electrical poles soon since they will be using the rest of the inventory this week. The transaction report for October 2020 was approved. Beth Wheeler Legacy Fund provides ham, $200 for each North Daviess R-3 family “Caring and Sharing” was the theme at North Daviess R-3 in Jameson on Dec. 10-11. Through a generous donation provided by the Beth Wheeler Legacy Fund, each family in the school district received a free ham, along with a monetary donation of $200 per family. These gifts were distributed in conjunction with the monthly Campus Cupboard items. Beth Wheeler attended school in Jameson (Class of ’74) and was very active in the community her entire life. Beth worked for University Extension 4-H in several counties and served two terms in the Missouri House of Representatives before joining the staff of Governor Mel Carnahan. Beth left the political scene and worked at both Northwest Missouri State University and Missouri State University, before retiring in 2012. Beth loved helping and pulling people together. She passed away in 2017. Since her passing, an anonymous donor contributed funds to continue her legacy. It is because of Beth’s example and the example of others that the family wishes to pay it forward to her beloved school and community. ~ Submitted by Elaine Bohannon
CARES Act awards grant to senior centers In collaboration with the CARES Act, Community Action Partnership of North Central Missouri (CAPNCM) plans to present local senior centers with grants for $10,000. Eleven senior centers will benefit from the $10,000 grants, including one grant for each of the two centers located in Daviess County, at Gallatin and at Pattonsburg. The senior centers plan to use the funding in their areas of most need, including repairs, meals, special programs, etc. Other area grants include one each in Caldwell, Grundy, Harrison, Livingston, Mercer, Putnam, and Sullivan counties, and one grant for each of the two centers located in Linn County. CAPNCM covers a nine-county area of northern Missouri, offering programs and services designed to help alleviate poverty. Through the Coronavirus Relief Fund, the CARES Act provides for payments to State, Local, and Tribal governments navigating the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak.
the amount of $395,529.66 was approved. The 2021 budget discussion for salaries was finished in closed session. The board reviewed the November financial statement and the People Service O & M Report for October. City Administrator Lance Rains announced that SEMA has rejected the COVID funding request for the AMI system since it is a permanent solution rather
than a temporary solution to help the spread of COVID. Rains will be submitting the necessary paperwork for the VW truck replacement grant. The city has been denied twice, but the grant requirements have changed, and Rains would like to resubmit an application for the grant program. The board entered into closed session to consider the hiring, firing, disciplining or promoting
of particular employees. The above are the unapproved minutes of the meeting for the City of Gallatin held Dec. 14 at city hall. Present were Mayor Barbara Ballew, Board President Carol Walker, Aldermen Steve Evans, Dan Lockridge, Dan McCann, City Administrator Lance Rains, City Clerk Hattie Rains, Public Works Director Mark Morey, and Police Chaplain Austin Bonnett.
DHSS issues statewide order for COVID Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine administration Dr. Randall Williams, director of the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) signed the standing order for Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine administration on Dec. 15. “We are incredibly excited that this day has arrived, and our team spent the weekend working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices to incorporate their final recommendations which were released yesterday morning,” said Dr. Williams. “Their recommendations are very comprehensive and carefully considered and are reflected in the statewide order issued today by DHSS.” The Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, which was authorized for emergency use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Friday night, is a series of two doses administered three weeks apart. Below are common questions that are answered by the latest
guidance issued. What do I do if I miss the second dose 21 days after the first dose? Patients who do not receive the second vaccination dose at 21 days should still receive that second dose as soon as possible thereafter. Should you get the vaccine if you have already contracted COVID-19? Yes, but for both symptomatic and asymptomatic COVID-19 patients, you should defer vaccination until you have met criteria to discontinue isolation. Can you receive the vaccine if you are pregnant? Yes, pregnant females are recommended for the vaccine depending on the individual’s risk of acquisition due to the level of community transmission, personal risk of contracting COVID-19 due to occupation or other activities, risks of COVID-19 to the mother and potential risks to the fetus, efficacy of the vaccine, known side effects of the vaccine and the lack of data about the
vaccine during pregnancy. Special counseling and a 15-minute observation period after vaccination, if chosen, is recommended. Should you have a pregnan(continued on page 12)

COVID-19 vaccines in the pipeline, so scammers won’t be far behind by Colleen Tressler, Division of Consumer and Business Education, FTC
While we wait for a timeline and more information regarding vaccinations, there’s no doubt scammers will be scheming. Here’s what you need to know to avoid a vaccine-related scam: • You likely will not need to pay anything out of pocket to get the vaccine during this public health emergency. • You can’t pay to put your name on a list to get the vaccine. • You can’t pay to get early access to the vaccine. • No one from a vaccine distribution site or health care
payer, like a private insurance company, will call you asking for your Social Security number or your credit card or bank account information to sign you up to get the vaccine. Beware of providers offering other products, treatments, or medicines to prevent the virus. Check with your health care provider before paying for or receiving any COVID-19-related treatment. If you get a call, text, email — or even someone knocking on your door — claiming they can get you early access to the vaccine, STOP. That’s a scam. Don’t pay for a promise of vaccine ac-
cess or share personal information. Instead, report it to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) at ReportFraud.ftc.gov or file a complaint with your state or territory attorney general through consumerresources.org, the consumer website of the National Association of Attorneys General. Stay connected to stay informed. Subscribe to consumer alerts from the FTC. When you do, you’ll get updates delivered right to your email inbox. The war against good sense The following Christmas message, written by the late Ken Bradbury (aka Freida Marie Crump), was published in 2009 but remains timely today.
“Herb, it’s my patriotic duty.” “It’s an excuse, Freida.” “Nonsense. It’s just coincidence that my plans for Christmas shopping coincides with our need to get the economy flowing again.” “You Democrats! Spend! Spend! Spend! And when you’ve spent us out of the national house and home you turn your eyes onto the Crump household! Freida, I’ve got to hold the fort somewhere and as the man of this household I’m am drawin’ a line in the sand!” “And the tide’s about to wash out your paltry little line, Napoleon. I am not overspending! It’s just a part of my stimulus plan!” “My mother warned me I should marry somebody of the same faith... a good Republican.” “And who do you think ends up with the lion’s share of the business profits, Herb? Heck, buying Christmas gifts is just like pouring cash into the coffers of your precious political party!” The annual argument never varies. The details are just decorated differently for each Christmas season. I carefully plan out what I intend to spend on Christmas gifts while Herb waits until the evening of Dec. 24 with no time to comparison shop, then ends up spending just as much as I do with less brain activity given to the matter. He wouldn’t know a bargain if it bit him in the butt. “Look at the silly things you buy, Freida!” “Herb, last year you bought me a chainsaw.” “We needed a chainsaw.” “You needed a chainsaw.” “It was your tree.” “And it fell in your yard, Herb. Look, there’s not a dime’s worth of difference in the money we spend. The only distinction is the way we spend it. I think about it and you don’t.” “This whole business of Christmas has just gotten way out of hand, Freida. Why can we go 11 months without even thinkin’ about an automatic bread maker then once December hits we can’t live without one?” “You said you like the homemade bread.” “That’s beside the point.” “You told me you didn’t care if you never ate another slice of storebought bread again.” “Stop changin’ the subject, woman!” “Okay Herbie, here you go. Here’s the list of who we usually buy for at Christmas. It’s all yours, sweetheart. This is the year Herb Crump does the Christmas shopping! Go to it, Santa!” “I’ll do it! By golly Freida, I’ll just do it. Who’s Landyn?” “Our paperboy.” “Don’t we pay him to deliver the paper?” “Herb, he’s got that newspaper on the porch by 4:30 every morning, tucks it inside the door, spends the whole day at school then plays ball a night. The next day he gets up and does the same thing... all so you can have your newspaper. Did you think it got here by immaculate reception?” “Who’s Sarah? We don’t know any Sarah.” “You tell me. She’s been your sister for over 60 years.” “Oh. She delivers papers too?” “Herb! Take this seriously or you’ll lose the job before you even start!” “Look Freida, you just do the shoppin’ this year, but try to cut back a little would you? Times are tough and we gotta do our part.” “Times are tough, Herb. That’s why I’m doing my part.” And so it goes, sentiment winning its annual war against good sense. My Grandma once confessed us that, “You know, for the life of me I can’t remember a single thing any of you ever got me for Christmas, but your faces... your love... that’ll go with me forever.” Amen, Grandma. Amen.

We finished off November with 2.45 inches of rain, just shy of the normal average of 2.55 inches. Daviess County continues to register on the US Drought Monitor as “Abnormally Dry” with our neighboring counties to the west at Level 1 -- Moderate Drought. The mild weather this far into winter has been ideal for our local farmers from harvest to dirt work, fall calving and more. Let’s hope Old Man Winter remains kind to us the rest of the season! Marketing Assistance LoansThese loans are now available on harvested corn and soybeans. These low interest, 9-month loans are made to give farmers flexibility in market decisions while providing some cash flow. The grain is used as collateral and there are no early pay off penalties.
COC Election Congratulations to Steve E. Heldenbrand for being elected to serve on the Daviess County Committee. Heldenbrand will serve a three-year term representing producers in the Marion, Jefferson, Liberty, Colfax and Sheridan Townships. Other committee members include Joyce Eads and Wesley Gay.
CRP General Signup FSA will be holding a General CRP signup this winter from Jan. 4 through Feb. 12, 2021. If you are interested in offering land into the CRP program it must be free of trees, brush and noxious weeds, have been owned for a least one year, and been farmed four of the six years between 2012-2017. Daviess County will be taking appointments for this signup. General CRP offers are not first come first serve, instead all offers are submitted into a national ranking system after the end of the signup in February. Accepted offers would start Oct. 1, 2021. The maximum rental rate possible for Daviess County in the 2021 signup year will be $115/ acre. These rates will vary by farm depending on the types of soils that lie within the offer being made. Improving flood control
by Congressman Sam Graves
Growing up in Tarkio several miles down the road from the Missouri River, I learned firsthand the power of the river and what can happen when our priorities aren’t in line. It’s not just the Missouri River though. Folks across North Missouri, who live along the Mississippi and countless smaller rivers, have spent decades working to bring certainty and safety to the families who live and work along our waterways. In many ways, we did just that, but with change, came complacency, a false sense of security, and a whole new list of “priorities” that pushed the most important priorities, flood control and navigation, down the list.
has been a pleasure to work with and we wish her the best on her new endeavor! Here is a note from Glynis: “As my time in the Daviess County FSA office draws to an end, I now truly understand the meaning of the word ‘bittersweet.’ I have had the honor and privilege to meet and get to know so many wonderful people in this community. I’ve enjoyed the years of heartfelt conversations, witty feedback and friendly banter that has taken place across the counter and recently through a window. “From my first week on the job almost 15 years ago when a producer asked where I was from and as I explained that I lived a few miles across the county line she replied, ‘Oh, so you’re a foreigner.’ “Too many years of unforgettable educational stories and producer enlightenment –– majority of those conversations could never be repeated in print (you know who you are). “Thanks for the memories and for letting me work with you all these years.” FSA Job Opportunity The Daviess County USDA
When environmental and recreational concerns skyrocketed up the list of priorities in the eyes of the powers that be, millions were dumped into these pet projects while levee repairs, upgrades, and improvements to the navigation channel were neglected. This realignment of priorities had real world impacts on people, as we saw all too clearly with record flooding in the spring, summer, and into the fall of 2019. This wasn’t just a one-year problem though. This has been going on for decades, with increasing frequency in recent years. Fixing this problem was one of the main reasons I sought to join the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee in the first place. While it’s easy

for problems like this to get lost in the noise of Washington, it’s always been number one on my agenda. We’ve gotten countless smaller wins in the past, but the passage of the Water Resources Development Act of 2020 (WRDA), which I helped write, is a great step towards getting our priorities back in line. WRDA makes it a priority to secure, upgrade and improve our non-federal levees. After all, these levees protect countless small towns, and every levee is important to our flood control efforts because it only takes one weak link for things to turn south in a hurry. It will help upgrade our locks and dams on the Mississippi River that are so critical to shipping our products across the country. It builds upon existing efforts to revamp our flood control plans on the Missouri and Mississippi rivers and speeds up the repair of federal levees damaged by the Flood of 2019. For those areas that have seen repetitive flooding, and we know there are many, there will be new opportunities to upgrade infrastructure to reduce the risk of future flooding. This bill doesn’t fix everything, but WRDA 2020 does place a focus on improving flood control and navigation, which is critical. People’s lives and livelihoods are the top priority in my book. Our laws, regulations, and the management of our rivers should reflect that.

Christmases of Yesteryear in Hometown, America
Christmas drawings for prizes donated by local businesses to encourage patronage were popular events as this photo circa the mid-1960s confirms. Notice the storefronts on the north side of the square which have long since been razed.
Street lights were few but colorful around the Gallatin business square in 1962. The oldest continuous business serving Daviess County at that time was the D.H. Davis Drug Company. Can you name the other storefronts shown in this photo?
Many local businesses scheduled annual Christmas parties at the McDonald Tea Room in Gallatin. Shown are employees and board members of First National Bank dining in the Crystal Room, with bank president Bob Paul and wife, Jane Ann, shown at left.
Frigid weather sometimes played havoc with plans to attract customers to patronize local businesses to Gallatin during the Christmas shopping season. The gathering was scant at this drawing for prizes. [photo by Hubert Long; circa late 1950s?]
These are among the photos in the archive of the Gallatin North Missourian. Can you help correctly identify or offer additional information? Do you have hometown Christmas scenes like these to share?

Do you hear what we hear….? It's rare. It's huge and widespread. It's horrible noisy. And it's coming in fantastic numbers. Again! That's magicicada cassini, better known as the cicada. Every year, a fairly small number of these insects emerge from the ground in the eastern United States. But once every 17 years, a truly massive brood of cicadas arrives in the mid-Atlantic and Midwest. The brood tunnels en masse to the surface, lays eggs, and then fills the air with a deafening mating hum that can reach up to 100 decibels before they die off. They were last here in 2004. Brood X, or the Great Eastern Brood is set to return in May 2021. For the five to six weeks that they're above ground the live cicadas -- and their crunchy, discarded exoskeletons -- will be impossible to miss. The good news is that cicadas
won’t bite you unless they mistake you for a plant. They won’t decimate crops like locusts do, and they don’t spread disease. They’re not poisonous, either so there’s no worry if your dog or cat eats one. Just be careful they don’t gorge themselves, as cicadas’ hard exoskeletons and wings can cause pets to choke. Cicadas are, however, a danger to young trees, especially fruit trees. University of Maryland entomologist Mike Raupp does not recommend planting next spring, “because these trees are going to simply get hammered next year when those cicadas show up.” Trees planted in 2020 will be in danger, as well. If you’ve recently planted a tree, it’s not too late to save it from the coming swarm. Skip the pesticides, Raupp says, and cover your young trees with netting by the middle or end of
April. This will keep the cicadas from laying their eggs in the branches. You should use “fine netting with net sizes about maybe a centimeter or less, and cover those trees entirely. This will protect those trees.” After mating and laying eggs in the branches of trees, this brood will die off. The cicadas that hatch in 2021 will drop to the ground and burrow into the earth for 17 years. There, they’ll feed on the fluids in tree roots until they emerge to breed in May 2038.

They enjoyed music, attending many live-music concerts in Kansas City, Nashville, Chicago, Denver, and San Francisco. Their love of music was a binding thread that dated back to the early 1970s when they began dating and listening to Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan during their high school years. Cindy and Bo rekindled their love and renewed their relationship when they met again at a Lexington, Missouri High School class reunion on August 23, 2014, and subsequently married on July 31, 2015 in Polo, Missouri. Cindy loved life and has the following memories that are best expressed in her own words that follow:

Our most sincere thanks go out to the family and friends that have taken the time to support our family in this tough time. We deeply appreciate all the calls, texts, flowers, and donations that were made. It means the world to our family that a donation was made on behalf of Bob Harlow to the Daviess County Jr. Livestock Show. Pursuing the involvement of youth in agriculture was something he held close to his heart. Ne

Sean Dinwiddie… 20 years and just happy to be here by T.L. Huffman, staff writer
“I’m an open book,” Sean Dinwiddie, 21, says. The Pattonsburg native is not prone to drama. You don’t have to be around Sean very long to realize he’s pretty low key, really, and likely to downplay most things. Sean is a tall, good-looking young man with a soft voice and polite good manners. There’s nothing unusual about him, except maybe he’s thinner than most, almost too thin. At the Old Memories Café in Pattonsurg, his appetite doesn’t seem to be as hearty as it should be. He takes a bite of his sandwich, shrugs, and says, “If people ask me about it, I tell them.” Sean has Alagilles Syndrome, a very rare disorder that can affect the liver, heart, kidneys, spine, mental development, and growth. People do not generally have occasion to ask about the liver transplant Sean had to have 20 years ago when he was just a baby….even though it’s a pretty remarkable thing to have happen. Another remarkable thing is that Sean has lived a fairly normal life since the operation. Still, it’s not a subject that comes up in everyday conversation. “Sometimes my friends might ask why I don’t drink with them,” Sean says. “I have to tell them I had a liver transplant, and I can’t drink. Sometimes people ask me about the scars on my stomach. Otherwise, the subject doesn’t come up.” It all came rearing up a few months ago, though, when Sean wound up in the hospital. He went through an ordeal that he says was one of the scariest medical things he’s experienced since the transplant. “Technically, I almost died,” he says. He was having a liver biopsy done, which is something he has to have done every year just to make sure his liver is working like it’s supposed to. Suddenly, somewhere among all the doctor’s prodding and poking, heart issues kicked in. He was having extreme chest pain and his blood pressure took a nosedive. “My doctor said he wouldn’t be surprised if I wasn’t having a heart attack,” Sean says. He was rushed to KU and was there for two weeks. Sean is not big on details or explanations when it comes to his medical condition. “I survived,” he says, and that seems to be all he wants or needs to know about it. He came home and got on with his life. He’s not 100% yet. He gets tired and wears out easily. Sean has had other health issues come up through the years since having the transplant. A lot of them happened when he was too young to even remember them. For instance, he was only two years old when he had open heart surgery. “My heart wasn’t cooperating with my liver” is what he remembers about that episode.
Trouble started early Sean was born five weeks premature and was jaundiced. Test results suggested biliary atresia, a condition in which the bile ducts are damaged. It’s a fairly rare disease that begins in early infancy. Unless bile flow could be established, Sean’s liver would gradually stop functioning. The most common treatment is an operation called the Kasai procedure. Three-month-old Sean underwent that procedure. The damaged duct was removed and replaced with a new drainage system made from a piece of his small intestine. The procedure didn’t work. Sean also had lots of rejection episodes from age 18 months to around three-yearsold. Before long, scarring in Sean’s liver, called cirrhosis, was severe and advanced. Cirrhosis is not reversible. There was only one option for Sean — a liver transplant.
Sean doesn’t know too much about the little girl who saved his life by giving him her liver. “All we know is that the donor was an infant girl who passed away in a car accident,” he says. “My mom and grandma sent the family a letter a few months after the transplant, but the family never wrote back. I am very grateful to the donor. I am alive because of her parents’ decision to donate her organs. If I had the opportunity to meet them and tell them how incredibly thankful I am, I absolutely would!”
He was in band. Social Studies was his favorite subject. He was in vo-tech in high school and worked in autobody.
After high school Sean graduated from Pattonsburg High School and then went into the work force. He worked for a few years at the Daviess-DeKalb Regional Jail, which is located in Pattonsburg. He works at Dack Outdoors these days. The sporting goods store is owned by his uncle. Wyatt is Sean’s full brother; Sammi is his half-sister through his mother; Mason and McKenna are half brother and sister on his father’s side. He and Wyatt do a lot of things together. They used to have their differences, but they have grown closer as they’ve grown older. They hang out and ride their fourwheelers. He says Wyatt is a little over-protective of him but that’s okay because big brothers are supposed to be like that. Sean has a girlfriend. She knows all about his liver transplant and isn’t bothered one way or the other about it. His parents, Mindi and Kenneth, separated when he was small. He remains equally close to both of them. His mother is a nurse by profession. She worries about him all the time. “She’s constantly asking ‘how you feeling?’ I can’t leave the house without getting a text message from her,” Sean says. His father, who remarried, is a farmer; he isn’t quite that bad about worrying.
Medication a must
Sean and his brother, Wyatt After the surgery, Sean was placed in an intensive care unit, where he was monitored for infection, rejection, or poor functioning of his new liver. He was in ICU for five days. Then he was taken to another hospital floor where he spent nine more days. Everything went well with his recovery except at some point, doctors realized Sean was addicted to fentanyl, a pain killer. He had to be given methadone, a medicine used to bring down heroin addicts. Of course, Sean has no memory of any of that. He was just a little kid. Anyway, he got better and went home and started school like all the other kids in Pattonsburg.
Normal enough childhood There are no benefits to being sick when you’re a kid. But people do try to help kids get through it. Sean got to take a trip to Washington, D.C. through the Make a Wish Foundation when he was a second grader. He chatted with some secret service agents and saw President George W. Bush. President Bush talked with Sean about NASCAR racing and video games. Sean asked the president if aliens were real. President Bush told him his daughter wanted to know the same thing. Sean says that other than being on the “critically ill list” all the time, his childhood was normal enough. “I did just about everything the other kids did,” he says. “Except I couldn’t play football.” He did play one year of basketball when his brother Wyatt was a senior and asked him to join the team. “I was a pretty terrible basketball player. Wyatt was pretty good.”
Sean has a daily routine of medications, five pills every day and one three times a day to keep his blood pressure where it should be. He’ll have to take immunosuppressants all of his life. That’s the medicine that keeps his body from attacking the new liver. He has to have regular check ups. He says he’s not quite sure what all the medical stuff means. “The doctors say things and I don’t have a clue,” he says. “They use a lot of really big words. I say okay. I don’t know what that is, but okay.” For someone who should be on the “vulnerable” list, he has surprisingly little concern with COVID-19. “I think the news is throwing a lot of stuff out there,” he says. “They want to keep your focus on this, while they do that. I think there’s a lot of sleight of hand going on.” He doesn’t like to wear a mask, but he does keep his distance from people. “I don’t worry about COVID anymore than I would any flu or cold.” He does get sick more than the average person because his immune system is not as strong as most. “Sometimes if I get sick, I go to the doctor and get medicine and sometimes I tough it out,” he says.
Life goes on Sean has lived in Pattonsburg all his life. He’s thought about moving south, maybe to Texas, where it’s warmer. He doesn’t enjoy the winter, the snow, and the cold. When he’s not working, Sean likes to hunt sometimes and goes on the regional critter hunt, (that’s coyote, coon, possum). He also likes to deer hunt. He likes to watch TV, play games, and just relax. He likes to ride his fourwheeler and has taught his sister how to drive it. “We drive up town sometimes into Pattonsburg and terrorize the neighborhood,” he says, grinning. He drives a truck, a Ford F150. “It’s not my dream ride. That would be a Camaro, or a Challenger.” So, it seems all in all things are going well for Sean 20 years after his liver transplant. He has a job, a girlfriend, and a family that’s always close by. “I’m living,” he says.
Vaccination administration (continued from page 1) cy test or antibody test prior to receiving the vaccine? Routine testing for pregnancy or antibody tests is not recommended in relation to vaccine use. Can you get this vaccine if you are in quarantine due to an exposure with a positive COVID-19 case? You should delay your vaccination if you have had a known SARS-CoV-2 (virus that causes COVID-19) exposure until your quarantine period has ended, unless residing in a congregate setting (health care/long-term care facility, correctional facility, homeless shelter, etc.). Can you get the flu shot
and COVID-19 vaccine at the same time? There is no information on co-administration of this COVID-19 vaccine with other vaccines. The Pfizer vaccine should be spaced at least 14 days from any other vaccine. If you have been vaccinated, can you stop from using other precautions? No. While experts learn more about the protection that COVID-19 vaccines provide under real-life conditions, it will be important for everyone to continue using all the tools available to us to help stop this pandemic, like covering your mouth and nose with a mask,
washing hands often, and staying at least 6 feet away from others. Together, COVID-19 vaccination and following CDC’s recommendations for how to protect yourself and others will offer the best protection from getting and spreading COVID-19. Who is not recommended for the Pfizer vaccine? Those under age 16. An individual who has experienced a serious reaction (e.g., anaphylaxis) to a prior dose of a COVID-19 vaccine or to any of its components. For information on vaccine components, refer to the manufacturers’ package insert.
Most reported side effects were mild and include pain at the injection site, tiredness, headache, muscle pain, chills, joint pain, and fever. Of note, more people experienced these side effects after the second dose than after the first dose. “We encourage Missourians to take time to learn about the vaccine, get their questions answered and consider vaccination to help protect themselves and their loved ones. Together, we can strengthen our communities against this virus,” said Williams. Residents and providers are encouraged to learn more about COVID-19 vaccines at www.MOStopsCovid.com.
