President’s Foreword It is my pleasure to begin 2018 with the first issue of the company’s quarterly Khaleejia magazine, which documents all of GPIC’s activities and operations and covers our human and sustainable development strategies. What makes this issue special and slightly different, is that it is published just after GPIC became the first recipient of the United Nations King Hamad Award for Youth Empowerment. This is one of the most important moments the company has witnessed in the last decade and is in recognition and appreciation of all our hard work and focus in putting the well-being of our company first, not only by me, but also by every member of the GPIC community. A huge thank you goes out to all of you. We are honored to receive this coveted award and it also strongly reflects His Majesty the King’s strategy to empower young people to ensure the goals of sustainable development. The fact that GPIC became its first recipient is a great honor. There can be no better achievement than this and it was a defining moment when His Majesty the King gave consent to a United Nations award bearing his name. With this, His Majesty the King has also made clear his generous support for United Nations programmes aimed at building the capacity of the world’s youth and underscores His Majesty’s conviction in the important role that our youth must take on in shaping the future.
No honor is greater for us at GPIC, which has won several regional and international awards over the years, than appreciation from Bahrain’s wise leadership. Allow me to extend my greetings to our young employees and students who have benefitted from programmes and opportunities by the company to enhance their skills and development. A bright future awaits you and GPIC is proud to have played a small part in shaping your positive future. In another development, Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, the wife of His Majesty, and President of the Supreme Council for Women, congratulated GPIC on its support for the advancement of Bahraini women in the private sector in 2017. This honor has a special place for me because it comes from a visionary who is instrumental in launching a national plan for the advancement of Bahraini women. I believe that the pace of Bahraini women's progress will continue to accelerate. Women in Bahrain have always been distinguished by their high capabilities and skill at work and history will continue to show us the critical role they play in ensuring any country’s sustainable future. I, and the GPIC family will continue to support them to achieve the highest levels of academic and business accomplishments. Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery
