MICRO-CERTIFICATES

SUPPORTIVE CARE ASSISTANT PROGRAM

BLENDED, CONTINUOUS INTAKE | 14 – 22 WEEKS | TUITION SUBSIDIZED

The Supportive Care Assistant Program is a new, fully subsidized micro-certificate developed to address the labour shortages in the long-term care sector. This program is an excellent first step for learners looking to pursue a health-related career.

• Graduates of the program can access a $5,000 stipend if they choose to pursue further studies and complete a Health Care Aide certificate (dependant upon meeting HCA program admission requirements)

• Includes up to $5,000 paid practicum

Supportive Care Assistants assist the health care team in supporting clients. This role involves performing non-clinical activities including:

• Assisting with meals

• Assisting with cleaning and disinfecting

• Stocking materials required by clients and health care sta

• Making clients’ beds, cleaning their rooms and other areas

• Providing companionship, comfort, and support

• Assisting with moving about and accompanying clients as they move about

• Participating in activities with clients

Duration and Delivery

• Continuous intake

• Six weeks of online, self-study training

• Paid work placement (2 to 4 months)

Fees

• There is no cost for tuition or to register for the Supportive Care Assistant Program. You may be expected to cover certain costs associated with the work placement, including a police information check or other employment requirements (e.g., immunizations, appropriate clothing or footwear)

• Funded by Employment and Social Development Canada as part of the Colleges & Institutes Canada (CICan) Building Capacity in Long-term Care project

Getting Started

To be granted admission into this program, you must:

• Have basic computer skills

• Be at least 18 years of age

• Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada (international students cannot register)

• Be legally entitled to work in Canada according to the relevant provincial legislation and regulations

• Have achieved a minimum grade of 60% in grade 10 English OR

• English as a second language speakers must provide proof of English language skills (IELTS 6.0; CLB 6; CEFR B2)

They become engaged in a battle that does not result in growth. When this type of conflict arises, negative energy can result, causing hurt feelings and damaged relationships. This course will give you the tools that will help you resolve conflict successfully and produce a win-win outcome.

Employers are paying much closer attention to employability skills in the workplace - a combination of personality traits, behaviours, and social attitudes that help employees work more effectively and harmoniously in an organization. Some commonly identified skills include adaptability, emotional intelligence, creativity, problem-solving, critical thinking, time and stress management, interpersonal skills, and cultural understanding.
