Feishi Yu Selected Works Welcome Hello, my name is Feishi (Leo) Yu, a graphic designer based in San Francisco. Please take a moment to look at some of my work. Perhaps we’ll start a conversation. Concept I think design is a process, just like making porcelain, starting with a piece of porcelain clay, and getting as close to perfect as possible before the completion. This perfect balance is the reason why I’m passionate about it.

Project / Zero Waste
No Waste for a Healthy Planet Objective Develop a brand and system that solves a problem. And design a series of visual elements in a variety of media that work together as an engaging and relevant solution to food waste. Approach The goal of my project is to let people know that food waste is a serious problem. I want to inspire consumers to waste less food at home and encourage people to lead a more environmentally sustainable lifestyle.

Moving with Ducati Objective Choose a company’s annual/CSR report and redesign it, while keeping the brand true to its purpose. The outcome of this project is to learn how to harvest information and create typography, charts, tables and generate a complex visual system. Approach For this project I chose Ducati, a motorcycle brand. I used two spot colors to keep the classic look of Ducati, and simple infographics are used to balance intricate pieces of information.

Connect to the Movies Objective The goal of this project is helping us to understand the interactivity of creating a mobile application by exploring visual language and researching user experience and user-centered design, thereby working toward an understanding of the user’s needs and how to apply them to design. Approach In this project I created the website for Opera Plaza Cinema, which identifies the theater’s image, increases revenue, and encourages people to like independent films. The users can order tickets, watch trailers, get information about films and venue, and see comments from customers.

The Artist is Present Objective While expanding on previously learned principles, this project incorporates more advanced typogrphic issues such as organization, hierarchy, layout and grid systems. We will also investigate ways to communicate content and the meaning of the text through a catalog for an exhibition. Approach The artist whose work I selected to turn into an exhibition is the performance artist Marina Abramovic. I used type to connect with the emotion and theme I was trying to communicate. I chose to work with the typefaces Garamond and Avenir. And I used the spot color red for attention and emphasis.

Fashion at Your Fingertips Objective The goal of this project is to create a simple modern website and app that is easy to navigate and visually concise, and to simplify the homepage layout and integrate the navigation bar to reduce overlapping categories, so that users can quickly locate the required items through the navigation bar and search bar. Approach In this project I defined the target audience and then developed several personas, and from there made a creative brief. Based on my user experiences, I created an app for Zara.
