I’m hoping everyone had a wonderful holiday and a very happy new year over the break! But now it’s time to get back to community service and to think about maybe running for Lieutenant Governor and maybe attending District Convention! .

My term as your Lieutenant Governor is slowly coming to an end and I’m looking for someone to take over for 2012–2013. There’s more information in the newsletter. . .

DUES. The Early Bird deadline has passed. Now it’s just time to keep the online roster up-to-date and turn in dues if you haven’t already! Dues is a critical aspect in determining seating at District Convention. So if your club has not turned them in, please get them in! ..

Kiwanis Children’s Cancer Program (KCCP) Inspiration: In 1964 PNW Governor Frank Morehouse had the opportunity to work as a Medical Technologist at Rogue Valley Medical Center, Medford Oregon, where he met Penny, a 10 year old brain cancer patient. His relationship with Penny and her fatal condition is the inspiration for this PNW District Program. Governor Frank is dedicating his Governor’s Program to the memory of Penny to help change the future for children suffering from cancer, especially brain cancer.

Participation: Tour the Children’s Cancer Research Hospital in your area. • Sponsor a fundraiser for the Research Program – Walks, Bike Rides, and Relays. • Schedule a speaker from any of the Kiwanis Cancer Research Programs. • Make hats, trauma dolls, and quilts for children going through cancer treatment.

Reward: Gain satisfaction for changing the world one child at a time and making a real difference in the lives and future of children in each of our communities. “This PNW Kiwanis Program will continue for as long as there is the need to find cures for children’s cancer.” Claudell King, PNW Governor Elect 2010-2011.

Divisional KCCP Plan Division 30 KCCP Plan Service Project: The Divisional BBQ was planned to be during September where the funds raised will go to KCCP, but because of the Puyallup Fair, it’ll be planned later in the year. I'm also thinking about BINGO nights with a spaghetti feed and socials where there would be raffles and things like that. Also host a table at the mall during December to wrap gifts and explain KCCP. We could also partner with a local restaurant and figure a day to promote them within our schools and get half of the profits made. These are only suggestions, let me know if you would like to do any of these or have your own ideas. Goal: Awareness of the Kiwanis Children’s Cancer Program throughout the school and community. Hopefully all the clubs in the division will become more open to each other and ideas of inter-clubs and to also get some clubs working with other parts of the K-Family. Rough Monetary Goal for Each Club: The first goal for each club is $200. But once you reach $200, your new goal becomes $500. I am hoping that by the time 2012 District Convention, we have raised awareness for KCCP and over $3,500. I will be updating the thermometer to the left and creating individual thermometers for each club. So whenever you earn funds for KCCP, always let me know! Whether if it’s $20 or $150, let me know.  Estimate End Date: Hopefully all of the goals will be reached by February/early March.

Fundraising Ideas Here are some fundraising ideas to help your club raise money and awareness at the same time.  Hold a miracle minute during your first club meeting and/or once a month. A miracle minute is really easy and is when you have several containers and go collect as much money/change you can in a minute. You can get a goal and have a prize or a reward if you reach the goal.

 Collect spare change in a jar and count it at the end of a month. Hold a coin/spare change drive during lunch or set up a jar to collect any spare change.

 Hold an ice cream social or a hands-on meeting for KCCP to make trauma dolls.  On a bigger scale: work with Krispy Kreme, Panda Express, Coldstones, or Jamba Juice or organize a car wash and explain KCCP while their car is washed.

The ELIMINATE Project Kiwanis International and UNICEF have joined forces to save the lives of babies and their mothers by eliminating maternal/neonatal tetanus (MNT), a disease that kills an estimated 60,000 newborns and a significant number of women each year.

MNT is easily prevented by a series of three vaccinations to women of childbearing age, costing roughly US$1.80. The Eliminate Project: Kiwanis eliminating maternal/neonatal tetanus will raise US$110 million over the next five years to fill the funding gap required to provide an estimated 387 million doses of the vaccine. The Eliminate Project will deliver life saving vaccines to the most vulnerable women and children in the world: those in remote and difficult to reach areas; conflict zones; and with little access to healthcare.

Step 1: Go to the Membership Update Center. (Go to www.keyclub.org > Click "Dues & Reports" > Click "Access the Membership Update Center Now.") .

Step 2: Fill out the "Key Club Number" and "Password" field. This information should come in the mail; if you haven't received it let me know! .

Step 3: Follow the directions on the screen. Update the Club advisor information, delete any members from the roster that are no longer part of the club, update the information for existing members, and add your new members. .

Step 4: Double check the information. Generate the invoice when you are ready. .

Step 5: On the "Invoicing" page, click "Click here for a printable invoice." Review the invoice. Click ">>> Click here to print <<<" to print. After printing, click on "You must click here to finish the process."

IMPORTANT DATES FOR DUES The deadline for Early Bird and Regular dues has passed. If your club has not turned in their dues, they are now past-due! Please remember the dues payments are necessary for a club to be considered active, and will also be taken into account for DCON seating. So please submit them if your club has not, AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! ď &#x160;

Step 8: Did you successfully print your invoice? Check before clicking "Yes", you can't make another invoice so be sure it printed correctly and you will see "You have successfully generated an invoice". Click "No" if to go back and fix the mistakes. .

Step 9: Keep a copy of the invoice for your records. After that, you are done and have turned in dues! .

Step 10: Follow the directions on the site to send the payment. Check or money order: mail to the address shown on the invoice and include a copy of invoice. Credit card or Paypal: follow the instructions on the website and include a copy of the invoice .

Step 11: Repeat this process during the year for new members.

TIPS 1. Have a way to collect member . information so the dues process is easier. . 2. Aim to pay your dues the first week of October to get the Early Bird award. 3. You can always add to/update the ........ membership center after paying dues. . 4. Keep updating the membership . center. ................................ 5. International Convention 2012 69th Key Club International Convention July 4th – 8th Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista in Orlando, Florida Key Clubbers from all over the world. To go to International Convention only is TBA. http://keyclub.org/events/convention.aspx The PNW ICON Tour is planned for June 30 - July 8. On the tour, you’ll be going to Disneyworld and maybe Universal Studios. Please plan on budgeting $1500 if you want to go on the Tour. Let me know if you want to go to ICON or the Tour.

This year’s theme is “Service on the Big Screen”. .

District Convention is a weekend when all of the Key Clubbers from all over the Pacific Northwest come together to celebrate a year of service. It will be a weekend of fun, workshops, inspirational speakers, service project ideas, officer training, and a dance! You will also get to meet people from all around the Pacific Northwest. .

2012 Service Fair

Every year at the Pacific Northwest DCON, we hold a Service Fair. .

It is when clubs from the Pacific Northwest and service organizations come together. At the Service Fair you can show off a special project or event that your club does or look at what other clubs are doing! .

The Service Fair registration is in Section A of the DCON Registration packets and is due on January 31st. .

The Rally/DCM will be in the Meeting Room at the Sumner Library in Sumner, WA. (1116 Fryar Ave Sumner, WA 98390) The Election rally starts at 5:30pm on January 20th, which is a Friday & weather permitting. January DCM will be held right after and we’ll be going over District Convention Registration

ELECTION RALLY ATTENDANCE! Attendance at this Rally/DCM is critical. In order for this election to be legitimate, we need 2/3 club attendance. Which means we need 5 clubs out of our 7. Only 2 people from your club need to attend so they can cast their votes! But I strongly encourage everyone to come to meet the newly elected Lieutenant Governor! ADVISORS AND PRESIDENTS! If your club is planning on going to District Convention and applying for awards, please bring your packets so I am able to sign your papers.

Lieutenant Governor Candidates! Please plan on arriving between 5-5:30pm! And bring your Candidate packet! After the Election Rally, we’ll have our January DCM. At the DCM, the main thing is going over District Convention Registration, both online and the traditional paper forms. Then going over KCCP and doing an activity.

Why Should I Run

A Lieutenant Governor is someone who takes care of his/ her division to helping it grow and to become more experience. They relay information between the Pacific Northwest District to the clubs. They are also someone who is there to help you.

There are many reasons why. Here are just some: ● It’s a very rewarding, life changing successful ● You learn and grow a lot as a person ● You meet so many wonderful people ● You create amazing friendships

What Do You Do

The job of an LtG isn’t hard but it requires hard work and dedication. Some of the things you do are: make newsletters, submit a monthly report, make club visitations, plan and hold Divisional Council Meetings, help your clubs pay their dues, attend super fun board meetings (there is no sarcasm, the board meetings are truly the best and the funnest), and to help and be there in support for your clubs.

Before or on January 20th – Lieutenant Governor Service Agreement is due January 20th – Division 30 Lieutenant Governor Election Rally! ATTENDANCE IS CRUCIAL! 2/3 club attendance (or 5 clubs) need to be at the Election. And also 2 delegates from each club is required. ADVISORS – If your club is planning on attending District Convention, please bring registration and award forms that I need to sign! January 31st – District Convention PAPER Registration due! As well as corporate sponsorships, service fair, elections, and awards. February 5th – Date to try and finish ONLINE Convention Registration and postmark mailed materials.
