Bethel Campus Fellowship
My name is Abigail Graham and I am the president of Bethel Campus Fellowship at Coppin State University. We have the mandate and mission of leading students to Christ and preparing them to become reliable men and women that God can entrust with His Word for the next generation.
Each year, BCF focuses on a particular theme and Scripture, and our theme for this year is “Mature” from the verse Ephesians 4:13. This year, we are focused on laying down the elementary teachings of what Jesus Christ has done for us on the Cross and focusing on how we can walk in the power and authority that Jesus Christ has called us to. We accomplish this by having an understanding of the Word of God and what it says about us and the lives we are to live in Christ.
As college students, we are constantly surrounded by worldly temptations of lust, money, drugs, and alcohol. And the only way that we are able to overcome these temptations is if we have a knowledge of what the Bible says about holy living. In Matthew 4:4, Jesus was able to overcome the temptations of Satan because He had a knowledge of what the Bible said about living a life in God. The only reason that high school and college students suffer so many attacks in the form of depression, anxiety, loneliness, and frustration is because they have failed to understand exactly what the Scripture says about living in peace, confidence, and hope. If 2 Timothy 1:7 says that we have not been given a spirit of fear as Christians, why do so many suffer from anxiety? If John 10:10 says that we are to have a prosperous and abundant life, why are so many living in mindsets of poverty and lack? It all comes to having a knowledge and understanding of what the Scripture says.
When you study the Word of God and allow the LORD to speak to you personally, then you become empowered to speak against the lies of the enemy. When you begin to feel depressed, you can encourage yourself and declare joy. When you are feeling anxious, you can declare peace. But not having an understanding of the Bible will leave you open to attacks from the enemy with no form of defense.
If you are feeling anxious, depressed, or not sure of what you are here for, the reason for your place on Earth is to praise and glorify God through whatever gift He has given to you to bring people into His Kingdom. Studying Scriptures and having your confidence and strength come from Scripture and not from the world is the key to living the prosperous and abundant life that Jesus came to give us.
