EDITOR’S LETTER ALIA SOBREPENA
Everything that we know about fashion is wrong, but what we do know is that it’s always changing. Everyday fashion becomes a little bit more complex. With the rise in fast fashion, there are no longer just specific seasons for a designer to introduce a new collection. Designers are challenged to be creative and deliver styles for a consumer who wants fashion all year round. Fashion retailers, like Chanel, are starting to embrace E-Commerce and strategically use social media. It’s hard to keep up with all of these changes and we understand that women, like yourself, are busy and on-the-go. In this edition of Soigné, we’ve selected the crème de la crème of what’s happening in Paris. Fashion isn’t the only thing that Paris has to offer. We want to share the best fashion, beauty, art, and restaurants of this city.

The Best Designer Collections By Alia Sobrepena
BALENCIAGA
Spring for Alexander Wang must mean wearing white for every occasion. The all white lineup emitted a pure and quiet mood. Many of the garments highlighted lingerie dressing. The collection reflected a bit of Wang’s iconic street style but was combined with delicate details of ribbon and ruffles.
ALEXANDER MCQUEEN
Creative director Sarah Burton delivered a powerful collection for Alexander McQueen that contrasts between darkness and lightness. Dark embroidery and light sheer fabrics were used throughout the collection. Tailored jackets with cross body chains were paired with low hipped paints.

DIOR
Raf Simons has designed another showstopping collection that will shockingly be his last with the fashion house. The Victorian inspired collection featured sporty silhouettes that very sweet and serene. Chemise tops, striped sheers, tight scarves and chokers are the perfect spring and summer items for every woman.

BEAUTY VIDEO CAMPAIGNS Fashion is turning digital and it’s great for us who want to connect with a brand 24/7. Beauty companies having been embracing this digital wave and are using it to their advantage. Here are some of my favorite beauty video campaigns of this season. By Alia Sobrepena
Lancôme The luxury beauty and cosmetic house uses Caroline de Maigret as a muse to promote their new makeup palette. Set in Paris, the video shows Caroline using the palette in a number of situations throughout her day. Caroline using the palette’s mirror to get attention from a man in the park is probably my favorite. It’s a refreshing video that is witty, personal, and Parisian inspired. Chanel This beauty campaign depicts two models, Xiao Wen Ju and Holly Rose, going through their beauty routine as prescribed by Karl Lagerfeld. It starts with them: waking up, working out, bathing, drying hair, moisturizing, powdering, and applying makeup. Don’t worry about product placement, there was plenty of it throughout the 30 second video, including iconic Chanel jackets. Directed by Santiago & Mauricio, launched in September. L’Oreal Paris John Legend singing “La Vie En Rose” while playing the piano with the L’Oreal’s brand ambassadors couldn’t have been a better idea for this video campaign. The purpose of this video was to promote the new Color Niche Lipstick Line, an exclusive collection of pink to fuschia colors. It definitely will sell out because it’s a beautiful and simplistic video.

“LA MODA RETROUVÉE” REDISCOVERED FASHION By Alia Sobrepena
A
n exhibit dedicated to the luxurious wardrobe of Élisabeth Countess Greffulhe is now on display at Paris’ fashion museum, Palais Galliera. Countess Greffulhe was once the leader of Paris’ social swirl, having lived through the Belle Époque and Roaring Twenties time periods. Much of the exhibit was inspired by the Countess Greffulhe mystical penchant for fashion. Inside the exhibit, over 50 couture pieces from Greffulhe wardrobe, Lanvin, Babani, and Nina Ricci will be on display. The exhibit will be separated into different galleries to resemble a different aspect of fashion. The East Gallery is arranged to resemble a dressing room and features shoes, hats and fans. Films, photographs, and music tracks are incorporated throughout all galleries to enhance the understanding of the exhibit. Visitors will have the opportunity to read some of the papers describing her trousseau’s and identification cards for her garments. The curators of “La Moda Retrouvée” hope that the exhibit inspires and strikes creativity in fashion. 34

Paris’ Best Korean Art Exhibit By Grace Rokela
Having shown at Théâtre de la Ville, the Forum des Images,
and the Carreau du Temple, the Korea Now! exhibit is definitely having a moment. It’s now being displayed at Paris’ own Musée des Arts Décoratifs. This exhibit is possibly the next big thing because it gives visitors an inside look at Korea’s fascinating design scene. This is a side to Korea that the world hasn’t ever seen before. Fashion garments, graphic design work, sculptural piecs and more are featured throughout the exhibit. Traditional crafts, such as delicately painted ceramic bowls, and resin jewelry are just some examples of what one can expect to see.
