GRACE SHORT Grace16@hotmail.co.uk 07793468058 Under The Sea Spring/Summer 2017
I would describe my work as being focused on producing affordable high end quality fashion that includes elements of print throughout collections. Whether it be the use of bold statement prints, bright colours or minimalistic styles, I aim to capture this expressive variety within my designs. When designing, I keep in mind everyday life that inspires me originally but I like to combine this with futuristic elements to create a contrast that gives my garments a unique and individual edge. I gather inspiration from everything around me which will then be fed back into my work in order to express on a personal level, my understanding of the subject that I am choosing to base a project upon. I believe that it is important to include yourself personally and make a connection with the work you produce and this way, it can be recognised and linked back to you. This builds towards creating your brand identity. An example of this is, during the research stages for each brief, I like to try and include my own photography within my work which I can then later manipulate into digital prints for my garment designs. My aim is to use my designs and fashion skills to be able to create a brand that will help to contribute towards solving global issues with the use of high end quality fashion. I would like my brand to be known for making a difference on a global scale. This could include anything from collaborating with charities, raising awareness through the use of my design work, or looking further into solving the ethical issues which surround industries today. I believe that the fashion industry should be as ethical as possible and this is something I am passionate about working towards.
