A couture hotel experience

Research New York Fashion Week being held in Bryant Park changed the city’s reputation in fashion. Bryant Park was nicknamed “the backyard of the Garment District.” Big brand designers would show here and some were based in the Garment District making the location of the shows very convient. While the shows are now held elsewhere, Fashion Week in the tents was a key point in the Garment District’s history.

History Started during World War II, Eleanor Lambert started Press Week, where the press could go and see designers showrooms.

Over the next few years the shows became bigger and crazier, but the locations were not. At one of Michael Kors’ shows a chunk of the ceiling collapsed. The CFDA decided to put Fashion Week in two white tents in Bryant Park. This made New York huge in the fashion world.

Concept To create a luxurious experience for the consumer while paying homage to the history of the fashion industry advancements that happened in the Garment District, Ot hotel will abstract the runway to create a “couture” experience. The design will abstract the runway using lines and will emphasize movement as a runway show does.

Motion sensors and screens will be in place so that when a customer walks past the screen the “audience” will follow the model that represents the person walking past. This creates an element that is fun and interactive for the people who are staying in the hotel.
