Going the Distance

Monthly Message Hey Division Three South! Hope you had a great June. I know I did! The title of this issue is "Summer Sun." You may be wondering why. Well, I love summer. I love the heat. I love the beach. Most of all, I love the Sun.

Keeping Up With Kiwanis - Page 3

With the so many event cancellations, the virus flaring back up, and all the uncertainty floating around, it can be hard for some people to feel like anything in their lives is certain. I started thinking about that though. I came to the conclusion that, ultimately, nothing lasts forever (even our solar system will eventually be swallowed by the sun). However, there are some things that are constant in our lives: family, good friends, and doing the right thing. Among these, are the sun. Eventually, it too will die, but, for now, it's there every morning we wake up.

This sort of thinking actually inspired our Divisional Project: Service doesn't stop. That being said, go ahead and enjoy the issue. Congratulations on being elected to your office! I know, together, we will do great things. :)

Happy Summer,

INTERNATIONAL UPDATES

Message from the International Council: During these uncertain times, we have been inspired by the continued servant leadership from our members around the world. Key Club members have found innovative ways to live up to our core values, providing not only inspirational ideas but a greater sense of collective engagement. While we can’t be together in person this year for convention, Key Club International is excited to connect members from around the world for our first-ever Summer Leadership Conference. This virtual event will take place beginning Wednesday, July 1, through Friday, July 3. This FREE event is open to all Key Club members and will feature speakers, workshops and a unifying fellowship experience. We will also spotlight leaders throughout our organization with a virtual recognition session. In conjunction with the conference, members of the International Council (2019-20 Key Club International Board and 202021 governors) will select leaders for the upcoming service year. Summer Board Meeting

The Summer Board Meeting is usually one of the few face-to-face meetings the district board has throughout the year. However, due to the pandemic outbreak this year, it will be conducted via zoom. At the event, the district board will commence with convention planning. This year, the meeting is also where we will have our District Staff Elections. Summary: Who: The Rest of The District Board and I Will Be In Attendance What: Zoom Meeting for Convention Planning, Committee Chair Presentations, and District Staff Elections When: July 24th-26th Why Is This Relevant to Clubs? Firstly, you will know your complete District Staff after this meeting. Secondly, the dates conflict with our "Last Saturday of the Month" DCM date plan. I'll update y'all on the DCM changes soon. 7

District Board Statement As a diverse district of over 15,000 members strong, we are empathetic to the injustices that the African-American community faces. The TX-OK District Board of Key Club International stands in solidarity with those who promote equality. We have and always will continue to fight for those who face oppression. We pride ourselves on the core value of inclusiveness and, in standing with you, we strive to “combat all forces which tend to undermine this institution”. We are taking action to show our support of this movement, and we encourage you to join us in sustaining this movement past social media. “I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.” – Martin Luther King, Junior

SERVICE PARTNERS

Members work together by sponsoring fundraising events and conducting service projects at their local children's hospitals. Contact your local CMN hospital and invite a representative to a club meeting to share ideas and create a partnership.

Since the 1940s, Key Clubs have worked with March of Dimes to make a positive impact in the lives of babies everywhere. Today, Kiwanis members continue that culture of service by supporting the March of Dimes all year long by hosting service projects, raising funds and educating communities about the crisis of preterm birth.

UNICEF is the only organization of the United Nations dedicated exclusively to children. Working with other United Nations bodies, governments and nongovernmental organizations, UNICEF helps to provide for children’s needs in more than 150 developing countries through community-based services in primary health care, basic education and safe water and sanitation.
