You may be wondering, "what is a monthly message?" Well, in each newsletter, I plan on including a monthly message that references the title of the newsletter and a few unique things about that month. This month, my newsletter title is "May Flowers," so we'll be talking briefly on the subject. I chose the title "May Flowers" as an allusion to the saying "April Showers bring May Flowers." I always felt that the saying was just a cheerier way of saying "The Struggle makes You Stronger," or "No Pain, No Gain." However, we, the human race, have been struggling with this virus globally since April and even before. It didn't give way to "May Flowers." Instead, we've been grieving the painful losses of life and the still painful small losses like prom and graduation. Given the circumstances, I know it may seem hard to keep faith that we will ever see those "May Flowers," but staying positive, productive, and continuing to plan for that uncertain tomorrow is the best option we have. Keep the faith that we will see our flowers soon, even if not in May. Remember, God works in mysterious ways and, sometimes, we may just find blessings in disguise. We may have just been given an opportunity to plant our own garden. Congratulations on being elected to your office! I know, together, we will do great things. :)

Happy Memorial Day, - Ella

INTERNATIONAL UPDATES

Cancelled: 2020 Key Club International Convention The 2020 Key Club International Convention has been canceled. The Key Club International Board of Trustees voted unanimously on April 16, 2020, to send a recommendation to the Kiwanis Youth Programs Board to cancel the convention. Based on health department recommendations, the Key Club board concluded that holding a convention in San Francisco, California, this year would be inadvisable and impractical because of the health threat to Key Club members, their families and all individuals traveling to and from the convention. Today, the Kiwanis Youth Programs Board of Trustees concurred and voted to cancel the 2020 convention. “It is with profound sadness we make this decision today,” said Peter Mancuso, 2019-2020 Kiwanis Youth Programs Board chair. “We know everyone was looking forward to gathering to conduct our organization’s business, partake in educational opportunities and, of course, enjoy the fun and fellowship of our friends." If you have registered for the Key Club convention, you will receive a full refund of registration and ticket fees. The refund will be issued to the credit card used to pay the fees. Contact registration@kiwanis.org with any refund questions. 6
