• Honorary Senior Fellow, School of Nursing & Social Work, The University of Melbourne.

Rosalie is a registered nurse, former nursing home manager for 12 years; and 10 years as a community nursing supervisor. Her doctoral research focused on death and dying in nursing homes.

As an ‘expert witness’, Rosalie assists with legal investigations into cases of negligence in aged care. She is an academic supervisor and examiner, and reviewer of academic journals. Rosalie is also an experienced keynote speaker at conferences in Australia and overseas on topics including aged care, ethics, dementia, palliative care, spiritual care.

In 2018 she was awarded Victorian Senior of the Year. Rosalie has published widely, including four authored and co-authored books on aged care.

Associate Professor Claire Roberts

Claire Roberts is an art historian and curator with an interest in modern and contemporary Chinese art, and the cultural flows between Australia and Asia. She is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities. Her current research explores the international context of modern and contemporary Chinese art. Claire’s most recent books are Fairweather and China (2021), Ian Fairweather: A Life in Letters, edited with John Thompson (2019), Photography and China (2013) and Friendship in Art: Fou Lei and Huang Binhong (2010).

Formed as the offspring of The Australian Leadership Project, the Centre’s members are drawn from 56 countries. Victor’s life experience includes stints as Commissioner to the Americas, 18 years as a parliamentarian, practice as a barrister, mediator, arbitrator, businessman and board service. He was a Senior Engagement Adviser to the Australian G20 presidency focused on the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meetings.

In October 2020, Victor presented to our members, a special Online-Only event titled “ Optimism-your superpower-the why and the how. ” He was invited to present at the March Luncheon in 2021 where he spoke about “ The Heart of Optimism: What makes you Optimistic for 2021 and Beyond?” At the 2022 March Luncheon, his topic was “ Is the lack of Optimism a global risk ?”

In 2022, The Centre for Optimism partnered and sponsored the Nelson Mandela Regional Youth Leadership Summit Victoria with Future Voices, The Gandhi Experiment and the Gallawah Foundation. Victor Perton presented the classic workshop on the “How and Why of Optimism” at all four summits.

Victor will be back at Graduate House in June with another concept of Optimism.

Learn how to make delicious pickles at home and take home a jar of freshly pickled goodies. All materials provided. Part of the ‘Local Lunch Club – Live well, eat well, together’ program. This program is supported by Public Libraries Victoria and the State Library of Victoria through a health and wellbeing innovation grant. Booking is required.

The Joys of the Women: 30th Anniversary Screening

Come celebrate the 30th anniversary of The Joys of the Women (Le gioie delle donne), with a special screening of the documentary that made the Gioie delle Donne choir and their musical director, Kavisha Mazzella (AM), household names. The film captures with wit and warmth the larger-than-life characters of the choir and follows Mazzella’s musical journey to find the lost songs of a generation.

After the screening, enjoy a performance from Mazzella and members of the newly formed Lingua Madre choir, followed by a Q&A with Mazzella and Di Chiera, hosted by Dr Maria Pallotta-Chiarolli (AM), Australian academic, author and activist. Booking is required.
